Nicely done coverage. I miss being home and able to visit these events, so it's nice to see some coverage that I can enjoy while sitting in the USA. Amazing to see sunshine at an annual Popham event too. Pleased to see it went well for all concerned. Greetings from Lucian to Paul and Ben. Hopefully, next summer I'll bring the family over to visit with you all. Appreciate your videos Giles.
Brilliant look at Popham! Never really been on my radar to attend, and hopefully I haven't missed the boat - fingers crossed that development doesn't go ahead!
@@GolfFoxtrot22Hi Giles, that really was a great video, full of interesting stuff. Hope you're okay too? Thanks for asking, I'm still battling with health etc, mainly 'long covid'🤕🤕🙄💜💜✌️✌️
They really are amazing machines, Paul. HoT at 90mph after tweaking a little electric rocker switch is just mind-blowing. Not much use in training of course but I can imagine the huge benefits in touring. The climb when solo is insane - 500ft by the end of the runway at Shobdon! 😲😲😲
Great video Giles. I love the fact that there is still design and innovation going on. If you know of any design teams that are looking for input from an aircraft Weights Engineer, I'm always happy to help people out, be it weight saving idea's to weighing.
Just realised I saw Dan at Shobdon last week (think he'd arrived by motorbike?) as I did my solo 1st X-Nav from Halfpenny Green. If you are reading this Dan, I was in the white Quantum with a red/black flying suit. Congratulations on your solo, if this weather holds you will be at GST in no time?
Hi @msm3! Yes I remember the white Quantum. Did we chat? If so I apologise - I never forget a face but I was maxed out that day! Congrats on your solo nav flights - you must be getting pretty close to GST now. Well done - hope to catch you in the near future. 👍😁
@@clearprop Hi Dan, we didn't chat, merely said hello near Andy's office. TBH I was pretty hyped up myself as I kept thinking of the Everest analogy, that it was only completed once you got back down and I had yet to return to Ha'penny Green at that stage! We are sure to cross paths at some point? 😀
Shame about the weirdo at the end, Giles. It was going so well until then. 😉👍 Great coverage again Giles - and it struck me this time that your journalism skills are pretty darned good. Freelance work for Flyer soon? 🤔
There are a lot of expensive aircraft entering the market, but in terms of sales numbers the cheaper end is still winning. The companies that have the money, get the pitches at Popham.
England cannot put on a good show due to all the red tape and regulations and cost that’s put on bringing new aircraft into the UK from around the rest of the world. Go to Blois and it will open your eyes to all the exceptional aircraft that will never see the light of day in the UK, in fact do as I did and ask the agents at Blois if they’ll be bringing in their aircraft to the UK? Their first response will be laughter then it will be…..To much trouble. I’ve been flying since 1985 it was the same then as it is now, it will never change! You only have to look at the LAA magazine that comes out…..Same old, same old! In fact I never look at mine now.

When the weather is good we meet fellow pilots all the time and there’s red tape and then there’s the UK’s red tape! Back in the day the Popham show used to be excellent with interesting aircraft to see and buy, excellent side stands full of aircraft parts etc to be purchased but there’s nothing coming in to replace those same aircraft from years gone by. The UK Microlight and light aircraft industry in the UK has gone stale and out of date with the rest of the worlds finest machines on offer, it will never change for the better.
Please...if you are interviewing folk whose income relies on publicity, be a "professional" and give them a mic! A lot of very interesting stuff here, but if you, as the producer, make it a pain to watch then you'll lose your audience and thus the whole point of making the vid...and I know this takes a lot of effort. I've continued to watch until the "belt up" discussion, but the very important message here has been destroyed by the dreadful sound quality. If you're a keen aviator then you might press through it, but if you're not the message will be lost.
Great to see Dan has progressed to a full licence! He’s such a good chap 🥳👍🏼
Hi Geoff, it's clearly a very small world.
Aww if only you knew me, Geoff! 😉 Great to see you at Popham before you headed off for Goodwood. Here's to the next time. 👍
