  • Keith and Ben preview #UFCVegas92 with detailed predictions and picks for all 12 fights-including a ton of upsets-and an amount of side chatter unprecedented in the history of the show. Topics of that chatter range widely but include early MMA legend and upcoming biopic subject Mark Kerr, boxing legend Vinny Pazienza, the stupid little drum thing from "The Karate Kid Part 2," and of course Bo Nickal. Don't say we didn't warn you!

    The hardest working men in the business, but previewing this particular card has to have you questioning your life decisions. This card makes last week’s card look like UFC 300.
    Keith, this dude isn’t Leon Edwards 2.0, he’s English Erick Silva. He’s a “young prospect” who will turn 34 next July.

    • @sherdog

      Au contraire, speaking for myself at least (Ben), I enjoy previewing the lousy cards almost as much as the great ones. It's just a fun process.

      You're a better man than me Ben. I see an Apex card with guys and gals whose names look like Scrabble tiles were shook out of a Yahtzee dice cup and my eyes glaze over. If a card is Michael Johnson crappy, I can work with that. But when it's Montana de la Rosa crappy and it's in the goldarn Apex ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. What sucks from my perspective is that I want a card to be interesting enough that I'll watch enough of it participate in your and Keith's recaps... ain't no chance of that happening here brother.
      Epilogue: Hey, Michael Johnson actually beat Edson Barbosa nine years ago! Because of course he did.

    • @sherdog

      @@rcnordo4366 Johnson was the first UFC fighter to beat Barboza without wrestling him. He was the last guy to beat Tony Ferguson before Ferg went on that insane 12-fight tear. He beat Dustin Poirier worse than anyone at lightweight other than Khabib. When you contrast those highlights with some of his lowlights, and realize that even in his prime he was barely above .500 in the UFC, he is the most inconsistent high-level talent in MMA history and my ultimate "scream at the TV" fighter.

      @@sherdog and he wobbled Khabib and had Gaestje hurt! And yet lost in his prime to Meza Hadidi, Myles Jury and Paul Sass and lost his season of TUF to Jonathan Brookins. That’s why he is one of the most fascinating fighters ever. Well, after Erick Silva.

      I still think that dumb thing might have worked as intended if the tournament field hadn't been a bunch of aging heavyweights. Can you imagine Demetrious Johnson or Yair Rodriguez fighting in a human Beyblade arena? We might have had multiple Showtime kicks. How about Michel Pereira and Michael Venom Page? But the Sherman Pendergarsts and Pat Smiths of the world just kind of toppled over when they reached the edge of the cage; it made takedowns ten times easier, not harder.

    I think Murphy and Edward’s “rises” are pretty different. Like you said Murphy has fought worse completion as he’s progressed. Murphys rise has happened much later in his career than Edwards’ is only a month older than Murphy. Edward’s reached the title in his athletic prime around 30 while if Murphy does he’d be 33-34, older than Leon now. Murphy’s rise feels more like Josh Emmet’s. Here comes a brutal loss via elbow and then he’ll start poking around contention in only four more years!

    • @sherdog
      @sherdog  22 дні тому +1

      Murphy-Emmett is a great comparison. Looks pretty dominant, but can't stay busy enough to keep traffic from passing him on the right, and by the time he makes into the title picture (if he ever does) he might be a little too old and beat up to truly capitalize.

    • @sherdog

    • @sherdog
      @sherdog  21 день тому

      The semi-satirical is the important part. Did you ever see JCVD? It was silly and ridiculous, but strangely affecting and full of pathos at the same time. I would love to see Sappu play himself. Imagine a montage of his late career: a dozen fights in a row where he lays down and curls into a fetal position after the first hard punch he takes. Then you flash back to him in the 90s, whupping Ernesto Hoost, probably the greatest kickboxer of his generation. Twice.

  • @Portia_Baines

    The result in the headliner is going to influence UFC Manchester because Murphy is from Stockport, which is part of Greater Manchester. So a win here and he might get a good name, maybe on the main card. A loss and he gets a bounce back fight he should win on the prelims. Angela Hill will do what she does best, lose a razor close split decision and then throw a tantrum online like it was total domination.

    • @sherdog
      @sherdog  20 днів тому +1

      You're probably right about Murphy, and if so, that's one hell of a dilemma: lose, and you get to pick up a nice win over someone like Julian Erosa in the top prelim. Win, and you get posterized by Yair Rodriguez in the co-main event.
