Chris just loves music....when the other guy's soloing he's just carefree, vamping and digging it. No competition, no nerves, just love of the music and pure joy. Then he takes his solo and melts the place. Every time. The man.
THE OTHER GUY -happens to be Matt Schofield, a phenomenal talent, probably just came in to listen and Chris gave him a guitar to play, as Matt always plays strats, and totally nails it. Not to take anything away from Chris, he is also great, they certainly had a fantastic time playing together, as well as call and response. By the way, if you enjoyed this, here is another greta jam with 2 other virtuosos ua-cam.com/video/43Z9tLb4v9s/v-deo.html
That my friend is a result (among many other reasons, like starting young , having a dad who was way way into blues, and having played live funk fusion soul blues jazz for a long long time ) of having seriously studied jazz guitar. Blurring the imaginary lines between jazz and blues, like the "RnB" musicians of the 40's 50's. You can't comp like that without the funk feel, and the variety of voicings.
Years ago when I worked in retail grocery my buddy who ran the delicatessen was Chris’s rhythm guitarist, so I was lucky enough to start watching him around 1987 or so... give or take - it’s been a while. It’s amazing to see these two seriously talented guys dip into their seemingly unending vault of wonderful licks, fills, and ideas, when Chris is on he’s tough but Matt is a monster as well - more than held his own!
I don't recall last time, I listened and saw two true blues gents working that great together. I just can't stop my self replaying this session. Great share. Thanks a lot with love and blues from Denmark
Can you imagine walking into a bar and seeing this? Say What!! Props!! Matt is a monster as is Chris! Chis has so much class-giving Matt loads of room to play and fell it.
Man, Both Chris and Matt's soloing is phenomenal, but I was amazed at the chord substitutions and rhythm that Chris played! Takes a 1-4-5 to a totally new place!
EVERYTIME Matt plays a Gibson, I think to myself ... “ Matt, why don’t you just play one all the time?” Then I wake up from the mesmerizing sounds of Gibson in the hands of a master blues man and realize he can’t hear me. Somebody please give Matt a vintage Gibson, he’s earned it.
Met CC after a gig in Sweden in 2020; was so totally blowned away and felt I had to thank him in person. After the gig he went solo sweaty to a calmer spot to have a small whiskey, and I softly went up and asked if we could chat. No worries at all, big hugs and I got a fine selfie for my wife! I love this blues man!
Honestly, I heard his music an hour ago for the first time, on the radio in my car. A live gigg on radio Veronica. I've been sleeping for years. It was good music
I love everything about this-the way they really dig in at 3 minutes in-amazing. Rhythm section of bass and drums killing it. Also the Maui Sugar Mill looks like such a cool place filled with such cool people in the background!
I can’t find any mention of this, but the bass player sure looks like Larry Carlton’s son, Travis, who also plays with Robben Ford and others. A rock steady, in the pocket bass player!
On top of CC being a killer guitarist he is really in touch with the particular amp he uses. Music Man 112 RD 50. Cuts through like a sharp knife. No pedals no tricks just pure soul power.
It looks like they're both using those amps. I'd not heard of them until I saw your comment, so whilst it might be over a year since you posted it, thank you. I'm now on ebay trying to find one!
Hey. Just want to thank whoever 1AnitrasDance is, cause I've heard sooooo much great stuff from your channel. Thank you! These two guys together. Wow! What else would I have expected? Can I sit in on the drums please? Or maybe play some background rhythm guitar. What a groove!!! Love the back and forth at the end.
My 2 fave guitar players + Travis Carlton (Larry’s son) on bass; I couldn’t ask for anything more :-). Chris is from the Bay Area and, both he and Matt are 2 of the most humble blues players out there. Always willing to share info with fellow players!!!
I squirt in my drawers a little bit every time I play this vid. In a just world everyone would know who guys like Chris Cain and Jack Pearson et al are.
Wow! What a treat! Matt Schofield is a magnificent player. I really enjoyed Chris Cain's playing. His tone, on this recording, reminded me of Robben Ford's tone from an old Robben Ford album -"The Inside Story". Chris's rhythmic approach was very impressive and enjoyable. I heard a few lines with a node to Larry Carlton as well as Robben Ford and a bunch of other greats. Sounds like it was an outstanding gig.
I love Matt. Chris Cain is a fucking beast. I’ve watched this video a bunch. Amazing comping ideas and feel throughout...Rhythm is where it’s at. Good shit
This is RIDICULOUS!!! Damn!!!
Rhythm guitar playing is much underrated until you watch somebody like Chris Cain.
His name is Boris Johnson !
As keith said.. keep the chord moving..
@@zelkapapich6277 jarrett?
@@kieskatwijk2391no it’s not
That man looking like he just stepped off his tractor, is one of the great guitarists of all time.
Haha I was going to write that, looks like he's come straight from the Farm...he is amazing
LMAO!
Working man's blues player right there folks... what way its supposed to be!! The REAL DEAL...
Lol
His sense of harmony is ridiculous never mind the techniques and licks

I can't the believe you called Matt Schofield "the other guy"
Chris is in a different level. look at his rhythm playing… so creative and groovy
Thanks so much for capturing this live show!!! Amazing!!!!
He's like that happy cartoon character we all need to be!
Chris Cain can comp like nobody else.

Man, imagine being there on an off chance to get a few drinks and then THIS goes down... Epic!
That's the kind of shit I live for
Me too man well played
Listened to this many times. I'm an old 60 ish guitar player. First gig in 76. Soooo glad real music has re emerged. Such good stuff. Wow.
TWO GREATS,NO DOUBT,,,INCREDIBLE GOOD JOB, WELL DONE
Chris Cain is like master Yoda... in total control of everything! fantastic!!
So great! I love how Chris dances with his head. He shakes his head like "no, no, no, this must never end!"
Playful like child, full of joy!

Matts solo and tone were killer. Chris tone and playing also killer. Those 335s sounds so awesome.
I like that they play with the music! That's the point of music IMHO!
I don't recall last time, I listened and saw two true blues gents working that great together. I just can't stop my self replaying this session. Great share. Thanks a lot with love and blues from Denmark

Please post more from this show with Matt and Chris. Together they are just too much... whew!
Man, Both Chris and Matt's soloing is phenomenal, but I was amazed at the chord substitutions and rhythm that Chris played! Takes a 1-4-5 to a totally new place!
I love the way both guitarists complimented each other so well, both had the spotlight, and neither overplayed or played over the other

My first time seeing him with a Gibson and its the most ive enjoyed his playing
he owns a 335 Tokay
Agreed
Never cared for him much until hearing him just now on a gibson. Sounded so much better
Matt is an excellent guitarist and educator, and seems at home with a Strat in his hands.
Two of my very favorite guitar players ! World Class Blues from California !!
So fricken tasty to listen to wow could listen to that all day. True improv
Honestly, I heard his music an hour ago for the first time, on the radio in my car. A live gigg on radio Veronica. I've been sleeping for years. It was good music
Estimado Chris Cain... desde EL SUR DE LA PATAGONIA ARGENTINA 🇦🇷! ABRAZOS FRATERNOS
Matt Schofield his improvisation is great... but Chris Cain is a master, and his accompaniment is so beautiful !!

Chris Cain flows it is magic.
Too good...........as per usual with these boys, magical stuff !!
I love everything about this-the way they really dig in at 3 minutes in-amazing. Rhythm section of bass and drums killing it. Also the Maui Sugar Mill looks like such a cool place filled with such cool people in the background!

Wow... Chris Cain. It just pours out of him.
The guy with the bibs facial expressions alone are worth the price of admission.
I can’t find any mention of this, but the bass player sure looks like Larry Carlton’s son, Travis, who also plays with Robben Ford and others. A rock steady, in the pocket bass player!
It says right in the video description that his name is Travis Carlton. And you are right, he is Larry Carlton's son.
We can all learn a lot from playing Rhythm guitar like that- really feeling it
Oh how I wish we could see more of Chris on the East Coast. A players Player for sure and a great guy too!
These phrases are just so full and musical. Wow

It doesn’t matter who C.C. plays with..straight into the amp with no pedals and no reverb just destroys everything in it’s path..

After hearing Chris Cain, no need to keep my guitar 🎸
Wow‼️
Thankyou for sharing my dear. God Bless You
Love the quiet breakdown between the players.
Love mr Cain ,the face of the blues 2021
These two are such a nice complement to each other. Something should be done about it. And can't say enough about that bass.
Chris Cain is just perfection. Makes you jaw drop every single time he plays.
Hey. Just want to thank whoever 1AnitrasDance is, cause I've heard sooooo much great stuff from your channel. Thank you!

Two underrated guitarists.

THX, Natascha, superb footage again!! Keep on keeping on!!
what a performance, both players did great and neither had urge, to steal the show for him. Superb stuff ...
You can really hear each guitar clearly in the audio, much better than the average recording.
