My "Handle Most Things" Tool Bag
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 вер 2024
- The latest in my "hacker gear" video series, this video showcases a little-seen kit of gear that tends to always live in the bottom of my suitcase whenever I'm traveling somewhere for work or for conferences. It's true that I keep my luggage very light if I'm bouncing off somewhere fun for a week, but if I'm on business travel for a conference (or even just visiting family, where there's a chance I'll have to repair or adjust something) then this kit can handle any basic problems that come up in the lock world.
Whether those tasks are entry-related or repair-related, chances are this kit has my needs covered. Think of it as a super micro lightweight version of the assortment of tools and gear that are in my company's field cases when we head out to penetration and covert entry target sites.
Like before, I'll do my best to put links in the description to most of the items you see here. These are just the tools that I think personally work well for me but they might not exactly be what's best for you. Take any inspiration you want, discard anything you don't like, and get past whatever obstacles come your way!

I don't know about the US, but in Canada, it's illegal to carry tool that can be used to unlock stuff, unless you are a locksmith and on duty. The tools part is ok, but the locksmith stuff is a no no.
@@michelrail interesting. Can you guys buy lock picks and other similar tools with out being a smith?
@@johncollier1992 You can buy them on eBay or Amazon, but unless you are a locksmith, you cannot have them in your possession. They call them instrument used for steeling.
@@michelrail It depends on the state but in nyc its considered a tool for attempted burglary if found in your possession outside, That being said i still walk around with my kit here daily. When your net doing anything illegal theres normally not a problem and even if your hassled by some police you can still explain why you have such a kit in the first place. I don't even red team and have never been arrested. Words are your greatest asset. Learn as much as you can if your in this field.
He's a penetration tester.
As somebody else who overthinks his daily carry, I deeply love this video. Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate your work.
I finally got to use my tubular pick "in the field." My mechanic called me one night because a customer had his car towed into the shop using one of those RV tow-behind apparatus that attaches to the front bumper with tubular locks. The customer told my mechanic to just cut the locks off but he didn't want to do that so he called me and asked if I could help. Yes. Yes, I can :D
That's awesome, man. Great work! :-)
He wouldn’t need to carry all this if he just stopped loosing his damn key !
I love when you talk about the weirder tools (I bought my first traveller hook years and years ago after watching a talk you gave). The UV dust and magnetic field ondocator is just some James Bond shit. More weird tools and tribal knowledge please!
I plan on it! :-)
Those USBCell batteries were on ThinkGeek a while back, they actually predate Kickstarter by a decent margin. I bought a set for my dad and as far as I know he still uses them in his wireless mouse. I've switched to eneloops for my flashlights and little electronic gadgets, but when those USBCell batteries came out they were the coolest thing around.
No one sells them anymore? Seem like a great idea even if they don't hold much charge.
I work as building maintenance for a group of assisted livings almost everything I know about locks Ive learned from your talks but I never get to use much of that knowledge... until today when I got to pick open the toilet paper holder someone lost the key to
Thank you for learning and for keeping retired b-holes well in order. :-)

We are totally best friends now.
At the very least fellow travelers.
Or you could be my spirit animal.

The tab in those electronic calipers is probably a good idea anyway as most of them seem to have some sort of battery drain even when switched off.
That is it...
I've been watching your talks and videos....and I am uncontrollably enthralled with this world of bypassing, lock picking, access control systems, the works. Fits right up my software engineer alley. Keep up the awesome work so I can vicariously live through you :)
I got a few similar bags. My issues though is just even remembering "hey! I have a tool for that with me!" Lol I always forget what's all in my bag.

You're most welcome! Thanks for getting something out of this.
4:35 I have not used one of them, and didn't know they exist...and now I need one!
If I find that in the hotel lobby at lockCon, I'll return it to you, but that 6 gun might be missing...
I still have mine. :-)
It's funny, Deviant has never made *my* "people it would probably be fine to piss off" list.

Pretty sure Wera ships to where you´re at.
Safer than fucking with the likes of ollam, and cheaper too.
This is a great video and I'm certain you have the credentials to explain to law enforcement and airport security why you are in possession of such items . I say this because a business acquaintance had his wallet searched while visiting the UK . He had 3 small picks and a tensioner . He was questioned and detained for 5 hours and those items were confiscated . Passport was stamped with a security alert .
Have you encountered this situation while travelling abroad ? Thanks for your video and ATB .
You know, because I might need to break into a building on the fly....
Can never be too prepared, you know.
@MrLodinn Knowing you are prepared allows you the confidence to do great things. Ambiguity, false info, doubt and indecisiveness are the great productivity killers. Knowledge and skills of all types only increase a person's viability as a human, often in ways unforseen. Plus I've been locked out before and I can't tell you how pissed off I was so Dev's channel is quite useful imho. Glad to see like minded commenters :)
I learned how to pick locks as a kid.
It became an invaluable skill when I started working in construction and the military.
You really do never know when you need to break into a building on the fly.
3:38 as soon as you said piano wire, all I could think was, how much this makes you look like a hitman
Don't know how I found this...but really glad I did. They make the locks more complicated & someone finds a way around it 🤣😂
Oh my goodness, I am in love with that 6 gun Wera screwdriver and the skinny Wiha driver! Where has your channel been all my life? Thank you so much. I could have died not knowing about these tools!
You always give me great ideas...and make me want to spend money. ;-) Thanks for all you do, Dev!
Happy to help :)
Ok as soon as you said overdoor attack i was hooked lol I new but I like your content, learned a little about breach and entry in the military
The piano wires are for the security guards
This entire thing is damn near perfect. Thank you X a million for sharing your knowledge.
I tell security I’m a magician and escape artist. I have handcuffs in my bag and can demo shimming to escape them. If I don’t have the cuffs I can do a magic trick. This always satisfies them!

@FiddleStick's bessette if you are combining "you" and "are" it is spelled "You're." If you are... Yanno, fuckit, you seem too unhinged to grammar properly so it's cool, nevermind
@@iLLeag7e Hey, grammar Nazi, if you're combining "you" and "know" it's spelled "y'know". You might want to check your own illiteracy before shitting on someone else's.
@@iLLeag7e
First: it is (it's) ok to write 'you are' or 'you're'. Both are correct. 'You are' is better in a formal way of writing. Otherwise it is the choice of the writer.
Second: I hate it when people are correcting other persons. I also get corrected sometimes when i write in English, specially by Americans. But what they forget is: I speak (and write) 5 languages.
1: my motherlanguage Dutch
2: English (not American, i write colour and flavour the English style, not the American way color and flavor)
3: German
4: Japanese (not fluently)
5: Sranang-tongo (Surinamese ... also not fluently)
So, you were correcting this person because he wrote 'you are' instead of 'you're'. I am wondering what his motherlanguage is and how many languages he speaks. I bet it is more than you do.
And you, iLLeag7e, how many languages do you speak? Please tell me.
Such tools, So stuff, Many usefulness, Wow :D
I'm one who is more interested in lock picking and non-destructive entry techniques for the purposes of locksmithing, repair, and restoration so this kit was pretty awesome and I was glad to see a screwdriver be the first thing out. Picks and shims are great but so many kits are missing a basic screwdriver and pliers :/ Why bother with a lock at all if you can just remove a hasp or hinges on a poorly hung door/lid/etc?
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks for taking the time to include all those links too, who knew so much of it was easily obtainable, gotta love the web.
i like to have a small pocket multimeter with me, just to see what's going on on door contacts, plus a few clip wires.
Do you have a good one you recommend, or is it just a cheap, good enough one?
@@mlindholm A Pokitmeter would work for this if you're OK with the dependency of it connecting to your phone, with the bonus of being very very small
Might want to take a look at some cheap toothbrush travel-holders. Some of those and some plastic tiktak containers would probably neaten those bags up a little while not risking spills.
Znter make AA, AAA and 9v batteries with micro USB port charging (socket on the side of the battery - you need to carry a charging cable for these ones). The ones I had seemed to work pretty well (until I gave them away). I got mine from HobbyKing, but they're all over eBay and the likes too.
Finally, someone uses the Keedex ball bearing follower but me! I may do a version of this video with my kit, as well!
I'd love to see that! (And yeah, that ball detent follower is effing amazing!)
FYI, the folding magnifier/loupe is termed a "linen tester" after its original use; searching for that phrase is the best way to find that particular form factor if you're looking to buy one.
That green/black screwdriver is cool
That wera screwdriver is amazing
Was gonna make notes when I saw title and its your video. Thanks for all your work
You're welcome. :-)
Can't find any references to "stepwise testing keys" and "top section" or "all section" keys. ?????
That magnetism wand is so neat!
Stayed for the after credits scene again, much better than GoT, wow
Hah, I don't watch GoT but from what I've heard, folk were... unsatisfied. :-)
@@DeviantOllam yeah I watched more pre-S8 analysis than any of the actual series and I was still let down.
Not let down by the cool glowy stuff though 10/10 would 7th grade rave again.
More important question how do you get through the airport with these things. I would love to have at least a pocket knife and screwdriver (preferably Sonic) with me but I'm afraid of all the stuff that's even lesser than that getting taken, all it takes is somebody to say I don't like that and mixing another rug machine through (speech to text that is a piece of work, digging through) your bag and who knows what might not make it back.
Put it in your checked bag.
I don't see any C4 or det cord, I thought this was supposed to be a problem solver kit?
I would recommend having an emergency bottle of hot sauce in your kit, you never know..
Hillary always does.
Yes, when you need to "poison" a guard and put him on edge
I’m like this in a way I bring my tools wherever I go literally just normal common things even my unlock tools I’m a maintenance technician even when I go on trip I take my bag I’d rather have it than not in case you break down or something needs to be fixed or you lock yourself out or someone else does I’m prepared and won’t have to call anyone as long as I got my bag for small things like that old saying if it’s cold you layer up if it gets warmer you can take it off but you can’t take it off if you don’t have it lol he’s just prepared that’s all guys
That first one makes it seem like it was designed like a sonic screwdriver lmao
Pretty Interesting like your over the door option.
I appreciate the fact that you love dogespeak
Literally had no idea what I clicked on.. and I am not disappointed!

oh hey that looks like the same one my grandpa has with him everyday
if you just want some long lasting durable batteries, you have to go with energizer ultimate lithium. buy them in bulk to get a discount, but you basically pay double the price of a normal battery, but you get over double the battery life of a normal battery, or probably even more than those USB rechargeable ones.
yes, they're disposable, but if you're gonna buy disposable batteries, I'd prefer to have batteries that I have to throw away half as much. plus more convenient not needing to constantly change batteries. you can use them in very cold places, confirmed to work down to -13c for a long time.
also amazonbasics rechargables and ikea ladda batteries are white-label Phillips eneloops, for half the cost.
The magnet-on-a-gimbal is pretty cool
Search eBay for "35mm movie trailer" and you can find film for a variety of prices.
Really good idea!
I'd have to use a 35mm James Bond trailer just for the fun of it...
I don't know if you can still find those batteries that have the pull off cap but I did see some the other week that recharged via micro usb. Both AA and AAA.
Jamie Price just got a few last month from a uk firm called batteryupgrade dot com
I bought some last year on Amazon. They are only about 1000 mAh and they don't seem to hold a charge very long. I won't be buying more.
My wife is a Harry Potter fan so I call mine my "Bag of every eventuality" has a HP feel to it haha.
I just saw one of your talks and had to come here and subscribe!
Happy to have you here. Hopefully it isn't a talk that could generate a talking-to if you're at work. :-)
Oh, another trade to be a Jack in but not a Master of, don't mind if I do...
That Gerber one is a reproduction of the original army Gerber, wish I knew where mine was
I had never heard of a penetration kit that sounds scary
My handle most things kit is bigger. It lives in a pelican case. I love those.
i kinda expected bump keys, is there a reason there arent any?
Tape your contacts off on your batteries, so they don't discharge accidently, also wrapping them in saran wrap prevents leakage bleeding over other items.
Leather bags for old analog cameras are nice as a small field toolkit.
That's a clever use for what I presume is end mill packaging
End mill packing? Oh, the tubes?
For the tubes... Rose Plastics
I got some long hex bits in one of those square plastic "tubes".
OMG. Thank you random internet stranger!
I've been looking for that everywhere, but apparently it's in YT comments that I should have looked for the right search terms xD
I think you can buy them from thinkpeterson.com also. For what it's worth
@@TheAndybenton most of their kit comes in those anyway, or at least any that I've bought without cases
Adding a small bit of film/gel that blocks the UV/near UV that little led puts out would vastly increase the contrast of the powder.

Love videos like this
Who sells the UV dust? I am also looking for something like the old Brinks UV security marker which are semi permanent. If you have UV ink you can really screw with someone by spraying the ink on paper currency. Will really screw with bill validaters so use with caution.
All the links are in the doobly-doo. No Amazon affiliate or anything like that, I just like sharing information.
I've done that over door attack with packing tape folded hotdog style and amazed coworkers haah
Well - I had to say that before the video pass the first screw driver (Wera) I had ordered one. I'm a sucker for wicked tools. Although not into hacking locks, it was still entertaining. Great content and interesting. Thanks!
Dude! You've opened my eyes to a whole new EDC,but do you ever get flack from cops if you get pulled over with all this??
Do you have locksmith license? An would that make a difference if you did?
Very similar to the kit our Director carries at Resolve Assurance.
Also i cant believe such quality video doesn't get more views..
I cant remember the name of it, but film is popular again for a certain technique that computers cant quite mimic. All I remember is it looks bad and is popular in Prague, CZ. So you can still get it fairly readily online.

Hello from Australia
What pictures are on the film? Is it just some film you bought cheap, or is it some of your family photos?
I had come across a small flat LAB kit 003/ 8" by 6" less than 1/2" thick you should add one of these in your kit as it is definitely worth it. Btw thanks for some of the ideas. I'm restocking my crash kit for lockouts while adding this comment.
At 3:37, what did you get those plastic holder that make the zippy noise? What are they called?
I clicked on this video to see if it was a hammer. Great video btw
In 60 years, I’ve never needed any of these tools in a hotel room. I must be lucky
No small can of air? That's how I used to get in a lot of places that had an exit sensor (thermal) - slip the tube between the door crack and spray it upside down. Sensor detects thermal difference and "pop!" goes the lock.
Does the traveler hook come with the case? don't know whether to buy from southern specialties or RTA.
Can anyone give me the name, or post a link, to those little nesting plastic boxes that appear starting around 0:1:49 ? I can't find them anywhere, but I don't know exactly what to search for.
