Almost all the online lyric transcriptions are wrong. "Somehow she got tangled up with Queen Julia Jackson Down on Melpomene and Erato Street Queen Julia Jackson dropped a Zozo la Brique And Jump Sturdy died with her soul in defeat" "Zozo la Brique (Zozo the Brick) was a well-known character among the Creoles some years ago. She peddled the red brick dust so popularly used to scrub stoops and walks in certain sections of New Orleans." From "Gumbo Ya-Ya: A Collection of Louisiana Folk Tales" (1945), by Lyle Saxon, Edward Dreyer, and Robert Tallant.
+sapiopneumoni I been listening to this album daily. I was just writing has to be the worst tune on entire album. Different strokes for different folks. Peace
This album is amazing, it doesn't have a bad track, however this is the worst, is the most pop, hype and easy listening for dancing. But man, the other tracks are in another level. This is the hipster track of the album!
People say she used to dance with the fish Some people say she juggled fire in a dish Clear day on the bayou of St. John She raised her hands and caused a 'lectrical storm She was a treacherous lady She never met much harm One day she ducked past the station house She turned on the fire alarm Somehow she got tangled up with Queen Julia Jackson Down on Melba, meeting near rattle street Queen Julia Jackson dropped a Zozola brick And jump sturdy died with her soul in defeat
I really love this album. It's dark and hilarious and the background vocals are magical.
I was able to see Dr. John in concert twice, and no one is cooler than he. Or ever will be.
Sun Ra was way cooler.
I found out about the song Jump Sturdy by Dr. John after Manfred Mann covered it on their 1972 album.
RIP Dr. John...
This song has just a hint of Ray Charles in it, reminds me of "Hit the Road Jack" a lil bit...on lots of acid, of course.
It's the vocal group and the dorian scale they're singin in, some of it.
Covered by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. So, I put both versions in my MM playlist. Thanks for the upload!
...nice song for everytime...
Covered by Manfred Man's Earth Band three years later on their 1st album. I put both in my "MM.."' playlist. Thanks for the upload!

REZSO SERESS - GLOOMY SUNDAY
AAAAAHHHHHAHAHAHAH well said
People say she used to dance with the fish
Some people say she juggled fire in a dish
Clear day on the bayou of St. John
She raised her hands and caused a 'lectrical storm
She was a treacherous lady
She never met much harm
One day she ducked past the station house
She turned on the fire alarm
Somehow she got tangled up with Queen Julia Jackson
Down on Melba, meeting near rattle street
Queen Julia Jackson dropped a Zozola brick
And jump sturdy died with her soul in defeat
The third line from the end is "Down on Melpomine (street) near Erato street" these are two two streets in New Orleans.
That's me all over
be at peace Good Doctor. Say hello to Fats and Fess for us. Won't be the same without you.
Dean Stanley and james booker
Trying to think what this sounds like or what sounds like this? Doing my head in
Minnie the Moocher maybe?
A lot of Tom Waits earlier stuff sounded like this. The Dr. Must have been an influence.
@@Fatgeologist Oh, for sure. Waits is equal parts Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Captain Beefheart, and Townes Van Zandt.
Crokers were from NYC.
dr. john used to be so fucking cool
Bob Baggins he's still cool.
Dr. John is so much better than "Right Place, Wrong Time." Also, what's up with the religious fear mongering? That's obviously lame as shit.
thats the product of poor education
So if I’m getting this straight, this song is about a transgender man named jump sturdy juggling fire 🔥 fire balls in a ditch?
Nobody asked you.
