The whole fandom agrees that Taylor Lautner is the most decent ex Taylor has had, he was very in love with her and treated her like she deserved but Taylor wasn't as into him and only appreciated him when he was gone. He is the only ex she has ever written a proper "I'm sorry" song to, I mean she also dated a Kennedy and as far as we know he wasn't a bad guy (she wrote Begin Again and Everything has changed about him) but that relationship died off without any of them doing anything too dramatic as far as we know, and Tom Hiddleston got Getaway Car but on that song she puts blame on both of them for how things worked out, but from what we know the only guy with whom she was 100% to blame for hurting them and the relationship not working out, it's Taylor Lautner, who even after the break up never said anything negative about her

Just had this thought when you pointed out their clothes. She is in neutrals, with lots of exposed skin, while he is in dark colors and bundled tight to keep him from the cold. She is laid bare while she apologizes and he is keeping his guard up to protect himself from the December snow.

So the music video is split into two different times: the guy is in December, walking around out in the snow, broken and confused about the break up and waiting for her to call and say she made a mistake. Taylor is further ahead in time, thinking back on her wrongdoings and wishing she could change them. The snow inside the house is a visual metaphor of her "going back to December" in her mind.
The part at the end, with her slipping the note (which, if you look closely earlier in the video when she's writing it, is actually the lyrics of the song) into his jacket that she has held onto and him pulling the same note from his jacket is her romanticising the idea that apologizing through song will fix the mistakes she made when, in reality, she knows it won't.

I've always interpreted the difference in the guy being outside in the cold and Taylor being in the house where it snows as the guy (Taylor Lautner) was essentially "left out in the cold" when his heart got broken, and he had to live with that cold, stinging pain all the time, bundling up in dark, heavy layers to represent keeping his guard up. Taylor Swift is in the house, in neutral colors and far fewer layers as a way of showing her being vulnerable by admitting she was wrong, but she didn't have to live with that same cold, heartbroken feeling Lautner has to be in outside. The cold and snow seeps into the house when she reminisces and regrets how she treated him, but that cold is only sometimes for Swift.
im not sure but i think that she wrote the lyrics of the song or something like that on the note that he finds in his pocket (which btw could be connected to the song sad beautiful tragic on the red album)
i think taylor’s quote was the opposite about country music. she said country music writing is so elaborate and can tell stories whereas pop is more simple and to the point which is why she kind of had country influences on folklore.
She dated Taylor Lautner (jacob from twilight yes you are right) from August 2009 till December 2009 and people think she dumped him for john mayer. Theres even a performance when she was still dating Taylor Lautner and singing half of my heart with John and she looked smitten. In this song when she says, "How you held me in your arms that September night, the first time you saw me cry" was referencing the VMA night when kanye interrupted Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner was actually on stage with her when he presented her the award and of course, she cried that night. They were called, "Taylor Squared" :)

The note is just the lyrics and “the first time you ever saw me cry” line mentions September which is a reference to when Kanye interrupted her speech which is when Launter and her were dating. The snow actually does have a meaning which is just about going back through all the memories and because the memory she’s going back to is December it’s snowing everywhere she goes. Outside it’s snowing so she goes in to get away from that memory yet it follows her inside anyways. Taylor never really does music videos with no meanings so it could be something small or big. Also, my favorite fact is when the guy breathed and then it cut to Taylor her hair was moving. Which symbolized that even though they aren’t together they’re still connected to one another.

The video actually did have some Easter eggs. The jacket he is wearing is exactly like the one that Taylor Lautner wore all the time. The little dog statue was because he had a Maltese named Roxy and the Elephant statue represents the restaurant they use to go to. The football field most likely symbolizes the movie they were in together.

The snow represents sadness. He’s out in the snow bc he got his heart broken, then the snow comes inside with her when else realizes what she did and feels bad and misses him.

9:40 in my opinion, the snow inside shows that the house (a representation of the 'walls' she has up) can't protect her from the cold (the pain) anymore since she is letting them down and being completely honest with the message that she is trying to get across which is a sort of "I'm sorry for the things I did, please forgive me". Which you can also compare to the water coming inside of Harry's Falling music video and completely drowning him.
The snow inside is actually a cinematic device called the Affective Mental Image. It means the image is affected by the feelings of the character. In this case, Taylor's regrets and sadness hit her juste like the cold of the snow hits the guy outside. So this feeling is translated with this method. A lot of filmmaker use this effect to integrate into the frame the feelings of the characters. It is not really happening, it is just to represent the characters feelings. This video was shot primarily in Vestal, New York but they did a couple shots in other areas. The baseball field is Maine-Endwell school I believe? I grew up there and it was actually a huge deal when they shot that video there. It is always fun to watch it and get back to my childhood a bit! One of the houses in the video was on the corner of my street and I used to to walk the bridge that he does to see my best friend!

When shooting this music video Taylor was 20/21 years old (The song is released in 2010, on Speak Now album). I don’t think this one is from a teenage perspective though. The song is about Taylor Lautner, who she dated in 2009. Our Taylor was 20 then. And to be honest, that bedroom didn’t really look like a teenage girl bedroom to me. It was the kind of bedroom you see all over the place for adults. Adults who are stuck, without imagination. It’s functional, that’s it. It perfectly describes the meaning behind the song. Back To December is an apology to Taylor Lautner. “I'd go back to December, turn around and change my own mind.” In the song she seems stuck in December, going over and over what happened and feeling bad about what she did. For her role in the breakup. That bedroom, devoid of character, symbolizes that feeling. At least to me.
Yes, she is the same person in this song as she is in her newer work. Physically. But emotionally, mentally, she’s a completely different person. She’s grown so so much over the years, and that is clearly reflected in the contrast between her earlier work and 1989, Reputation, Lover and folklore. She is the same person. But she isn’t.
Love Story really wasn’t a “let’s just shoot her in a room and him walking around” kind of video. Love Story is almost a full on Shakespearian costume play.... judging wether a music video is better based on the way she shoots them now isn’t really fair. Her music now is a completely different genre. A good music video has to supplement the song, the lyrics. Help tell the story, not tell the story for you. It has to fit the music. And I think all her music videos do just that. From Tim McGraw to Cardigan and every single one in between helps tell the story in the way they should. I honestly don’t think any of them are ‘better’ than any other. They just help tell the story.

I think the snowing inside isn’t just “because it looks cool.” It’s probably to symbolize the cold in her heart, in her actions. And to connect what’s going on outside to what’s going on inside.

I've always loved this song but never saw the music video before! The snow in the house is definitely very symbolic.
