You seem to be such a capable young lady. You are turning Benjamin into a lovely little home. I like your presenting style; no airs and graces and a charming accent. I would love to see you cruising around France.
Don't let the trolls get to you, there are i'm afraid people in this life who are just out to make other peoples lives a misery because they have such sad and pathetic lives themselves. Best way to deal with them is just don't interact, don't take any of their comments onboard or to heart and just delete it, if you bite back they win. stay safe and best of luck with the channel.
Morning Lizzie my name is Alan I live in the UK I’ve been watching some of your videos over the last couple of weeks and I’ll find you a very pleasant young lady it’s nice to see someone of your age that is so adequate and well spoken I have subscribed to your channel good luck darling hope you enjoy your life on Little Benjamin the canal barge
Hi,I like this guy 'cruising the cut ',and I came across your channel! I like your chatter and what you do! You are probably younger than my daughter. I wish you well and God bless you and your family!
That was a splendid video, I find it very captivating watching you cooking and doing your chores whilst talking to us. Sorry to hear about the unhappy people leaving negative comments. It's taken me a lifetime to accept that some people just are not very nice. Please delete these comments from your computer and your mind!
Sadly there are people who feel they can leave hurtful and negative comments often things they would never dare say in real life, it’s just downright rude. You did right to delete them but don’t let them affect you, your channel is refreshingly honest, fresh and it’s a joy to see your way of life and your beautiful boat. Thank you for sharing :)
Hi Liz, I enjoyed your vlog. The cooking looked tempting. Just a hint for a rolling pin... use a wine bottle, preferably a full one. Stay safe and I look forward to your next vlog.
Hello Lizzie, a very enjoyable video. Regarding your security, I use a video camera on my allotment. It has night vision, and picks up all kinds of animal visitors during the night. It's mainly cats though. These camera's can come in many sizes, some are even disguised as bird boxes etc. They can be wifi and battery operated, and can allow you to see what is happening without stepping outside
A dog is a great idea (check out your local animal shelter) or a recording of a dog barking. Some great traditional shots on your instagram very nice 🙂 This is my first video of yours, thoroughly enjoyable and very well put together, TY looking forward to the next one. Be safe take care and get yourself crossbows, hand held and arms length, just in case you run into any snakes on the path next to the boat. 🤠
" wonderful " i thought , a fellow tea drinker , until you said , " earl grey . " i have a friend who lives on a boat and unfortunately he says at times some idiots jump on his boat . stay safe , its good that after your experience with the intruder you took measures to make yourself safer . you have such a lovely way of presenting your films and theyre a good insight into boat life .
I so admire you for pursuing what you want to do! Glad your parents are close by. Don’t let the bad comments get to you. Sometimes people can be so unkind.
Hi, your channel came up as 'suggested' by UA-cam. I subscribe to Foxes Afloat (narrow boat on the English canals) What a great adventure for you, I look forward to watching and wish you the best. Your new subscriber in Oregon.
Thanks Lizzie. I love boaty type videos of all kinds for some reason. Yours is a really nice story and isn't Benjamin lucky to have someone like you? I am looking forward to March and seeing your travels. I'm not sure if you are aware there is another young lady who has taken up a life on a narrowboat here in England. The boat is called George and she does youtube too. Maybe you could compare notes. I'm not really allowed sugar nowadays so the chocolate logs looked doubly scrumptious.
found your channel just recently, just subscribed, follow a number of narrow boaters in UK, interesting to see what happens on the other side of the channel, where I am we don't have canals, stay safe, cheers, Garry from 'DownUnder' in Australia
Lizzie, I like your Vlog! I was wondering if you ever thought of getting a diesel stove to heat your boat? The one I would suggest is called Refleks Diesel Stove you can see one on a channel called the Narrowboat Experience. I would also get what’s called a Eco Fan to circulate the air through the boat. I’m sure you already have everything well in hand. I’m sure you have many projects on the boat. I wish you well on your boat journey! I look forward to seeing what you share next.
Great job with security you and your mom are smart, I was wondering how did you hurt your back? I'm a Cat Scan Technologist at a hospital in Las Vegas. I'm glad your dad changed the anodes I'm sure he knows exactly whats he's doing he has plenty of experience. I love the ocean and boats also, having lived on Marthas Vineyard for several years, and in Falmouth on Cape Cod, id love to live on a boat. You should start a Patreon page, I think you'll do fabulous !! Well have a good week bye till next time, Michael
🌸You are such an inspiration to me! I have been wanting a narrowboat for most of my life, but things haven’t worked out that way. It is so lovely to have my tea and watch one of your videos and it just feels like visiting with an old friend! I think perhaps I will start trying to figure out how I might have a long vacation with my youngest son and my grandson over next summer on a narrowboat! Hopefully this terrible crises will have abated enough by then! Thank you for sharing your stories! It makes me feel a bit braver like maybe I could do it! 💐
Lizzy everyone needs a treat with a cup of tea, by the way Lizzy you will always get people that give negative comments, there will be more the more you get noticed, take no notice, they probably couldn't do what your doing, it's a brave thing your doing, be happy this lifestyle might not be for you long term but you won't know until you try it, Bravo young lady, Terry from Scotland 👍
You are living the dream of many. Please ignore the haters, you are a very pleasant young lady and I hope you find your calling on the waterways of Europe.
Congrats on the subscribers, well done, you narrate fantastically, very real. Lived aboard a sloop for 10 years myself then 5 years off grid, now rural house.... Will try and find you on Instagram, keep up the fantastic vids lizzie.
I didn’t realize you were in France, I didn’t even know they had a canal system there or do they? I follow a few UK narrowboaters and love seeing where they go, how they live, I’m quite envious😩, I’d love it I think. I’m too old and arthritic to do it now, I wouldn’t responsibly be able to tend the boat and not sure how I could respond in an emergency so I enjoy it vicariously through people like you. I like that you’re an independent woman.👍🏻. It must have been scary to have someone on the boat in the middle of the night. I always thought if I lived somewhere a little isolated I’d keep a nice wooden baseball bat handy but then I realized it would probably be easy for a stronger person than I to grab the bat and hit me.😳 I like the air horn , light and alarm combo. 🙋🏼
Thank you for the lovely comment! Yes they have a huge canal system! You could rent a boat for a week, that way you get to enjoy the boat without all the responsibilities! Xx
A very lovely video. Thank you for sharing with us your journey. Looking forward to watching your adventure into being a small business owner and living on your beautiful boat. So fun to hear you found your niche doing what you love♡ Relieved to know your first encounter with an intruder who stepped on to your boat during the night was thwarted.
Thank you for your introduction, Lizzie. I do believe that UA-cam promoted your channel, last week, in their suggested videos, for those of us who already subscribe to other narrowboat channels. I was delighted to see your videos, both because of your lovely living accommodation & your vintage clothes (not so vintage to some of us who are as old as them! 😃) Looking forward to whatever you may film, in future!
Hi Lizzie, All the best on your new life afloat. Get through the winter, you've the spring and summer to come. You might find an electric dehumidifier would be worthwhile. I live on a boat and wouldn't be without it. Helps it feel much warmer.
You are so lucky to be able to go that fair we are just suck with some of the Uk not all are licked up like Wales and England apart from one little bit
We're new subscribers from Texas. We are big fans of the British Narrowboat UA-camrs and just found your channel. I have a few questions: 1) Did you film the restoration of your narrowboat? I'd love to see that. 2) Have you thought about installing a multi-fuel stove for heat? 3) Are you planning to run your business fully from the boat? 4) How long is Benjamin (in feet)? 5) In GB to cruise ALL the canals your boat cannot be longer than 57 feet due to lock restrictions, are there such restrictions in France? Thank you! Stay safe!
Hi! I was very silly and did not film it! I have a few pictures but nothing much sadly.. it's something i'm looking into but for next year now I think Yes I think so, just need to figure out the storage situation of all the garments but I have a few ideas! Benjamin is 62 ft long, no there are no restrictions like that in France all the locks are 30 meters long and more by 5 meters wide minimum.
Just stumbled upon your channel.....very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your narrow boat experience. It would be interesting to watch you cruising in the spring/summer. I just finished watching the Sailing Magic Carpet channel series about them moving their sailboat from the Med to The Netherlands via the Rhone/Rhine route. That's obviously not a route suitable for a narrow boat (scary currents and big commercial traffic but I'd love to see you exploring some of the older/smaller canals. I'd be interested in hearing/seeing more about Benjamin.....systems/specs etc. Good luck!
SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE A NICE WAY ABOUT THEM .STAY SAFE .PRINCESS. PS YOU DO HAVE A NICE WAY ABOUT YOU . STYLE LIZZIE. THATS IT .NICE NICE YOUNG LADY . LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT ONE . THANKS SO MUCH . KIDO YOUR DOWN TO EARTH ./ A JOY TO WATCH.
Please excuse me for being bold but to make a nice cup of tea......firstly an Earl Grey is a delicate tea which is easily ruined and a breakfast tea is a robust tea but the same goes for any tea. Firstly take the pot to the kettle so that the water is boiling when infused with the tea....only make tea even from a tea bag with boiling water if you reverse it and go kettle to the pot the water is off the boil. A very common error in tea making is in the spout of the pot. when you first fill the pot with boiling water the first water in the spout never gets infused with tea and when you pour the first cup it is very weak. Watch your blog and you will see the first poring is pure water. A good tea maker always tips the pot backwards to mix the pot and spout waters, that way the first pouring is a colourful as the rest. The expression "cats piss" is used for the first pour from a wrongly brewed pot of tea. It is up to you as to how much attention you pay to my dribble.
Many of your comments seem to be from chaps of a certain age, who may well have daughters, like me. We are thinking 'No, don't do that, like this. Be careful etc. Instinctively we want to look after you, but it is obvious, rationally, that you are perfectly capable, and you are kind enough to thank us for our suggestions. Good show.
i'm an American Gen X'er who feels fortunate to have grown up in the 80s, mainly because of all the awesome music created by your lot in the U.K. 🇬🇧but right after I hit subscribe you said, "I don't like 80s!" LOL. no hard feelings though, the 80s aesthetic was a bit crazy, especially with the shoulder pads. 😁
I have the same Lindt Advent calendar 🎄 I am so sorry to hear some commentators have been negative, good on you delete them as needed. As for your late night visitor a dog is not only a good guard dog but also lovely company. Oh apparently my father’s family came from the Devon area.
Hi Lizzie, I am trying to work out what your animal is in the window, I am thinking rabbit or sheep but favoring rabbit? I do like your 50's fashion they really knew about style back then, Your pizza is looking good I have not made one from scratch for a few years and I am tempted to give it a go soon, I use strong bread flour and olive oil I am wondering how you make your pizza base?
Its the in the window when you are rolling the pizza base around the 10 minute mark, its could be a sheep lol, I make my dough using the bread maker as it has a dough setting and it always rises perfectly, bread makers are worth getting just for the dough settings
Hello, Thank you for another wonderful vlog 😁 Please take no notice of some peoples comments as there will always be negativity regardless of how something is done, human nature I'm afraid. Your chocolate log looked awesome, yumee!! Benjamin is a glorious boat, perfect in size and so cosy. I live in a house, but I'm so tempted one day too take the plunge and move onto a narrowboat as peace and quiet and not many people is the best 😁 Do you think you will spend a few years on Benjamin or is it a definite plan to eventually move into a house? I follow other boaters in the UK and they all say how much they love the freedom and tranquility of being on the waters. Till next time. All the best. Terry
Thank you for the lovely comment! I’m not 100% how long I’m staying on Benjamin but I know for sure I don’t want to live in a normale house anytime soon!
@@BenjaminVintageFinds Hi, You are very welcome. So pleased that you intend remaining on board Benjamin for a while yet. Maybe an option for the future is having a multi fuel stove, very toastie 🥵 Keep warm and have a great week. Terry.
you should treat yourself to a powerful torch, something like an Olight Warrior X Pro, shine it at someone and it's blinding, even through a window, it's so bright they can't see who's holding it, chances are the will just run off.
well done on getting alarms....so basically you have been around boats all of your life if your parents ran a boat hire company so well versed in how they work....which college did you go yo in the UK?
8:50 " Be kind, be polite .......in the way you express yourself". Very wise words. Unfortunately addressing them to UA-cam viewers is like giving a donkey strawberries. The most one can hope is that their discourtesy is mitigated by your fine manners.
Hi! Yes you can, not at the moment sadly as the locks are closed until March. It’s of a picture I took of a snowy forest scene in my favorite place in the world, Haute Savoie, France
lights make a good idea, but the air horn is the best. Noise, especially something like that calls attention from others. Also remember to start swearing very loud. That makes other people come to the disturbance.
I imagine the intruder was just someone inquisitive about the strange looking 'narrow' boat. We have lived on a sailing boat for 16 years and it still amazes us that many people just assume that boats are empty and that no one is on board. We have been woken at 3am by people sitting on our boat drinking beer and smoking cigarettes!
just a thought, . at one time I lived on worked on my 28ft coach, parked in a lorry park, north london. . when my partener stayed over of a night walking between an across the lorry park, she was terrified of her ideas of beastly lorry drivers!? That was untill she met some lorry drivers, . one in particular. . made sence an dispelled fears she held, he said if she screamed there would be 20 of the biggest men around rushing to protect her. . glad u thought ya man was only looking for a place to crash, an he then saw u outside, . shame he didnt in day light leave a note on ur door. . why? he could be a local with local knowledge, not to mention too ease your fears. . but well done. . that sence of fear only hit me as a man once I reached 50
Delightful video. Take comments with a pinch of salt... as you said it is impossible to interpret text as you can never know exactly what inclination is intended.... I am looking forward to watching more of your videos... take care and drink more wine... You are in France after all :-)))) xx
You say the 1950's is "Vintage "- PANIC -I go back to the early 1930's, so what does that make me! - don’t answer that you did say "be kind"!! By the way I love your Pastry "Rolling Tin". It’s near Christmas so you never know Mum & Dad may make it a "PIN" Love your presentation.
Self defense-- here in America for people who don’t carry weapons do carry Wasp spray. It will spray about 20 feet so the intruder is not close to you. Place it where u would a fire extinguisher so you always know where it is . You might think about carrying it at night if you go out late. W
Your a girl living on a boat and from what I can see not doing a bad job of it. Sure there are things you might not know or indeed realise. But I have seen you getting your hands dirty, being very busy, being creative and over all its not a bad start to an adventure. There will always be people who have something bad to say, they usually haven't done much themselves if anything at all, they contribute nothing. Do look at the practical comments, you are after all not the first and many others have encountered the same problems as you will find. The solutions they found might not always solve your problems but it might give you ideas. Your presentation is fine and a joy to watch. Get some pepper spray too or something of the like, maybe a dog but that is a big undertaking.
Lizzie , Please be careful with the amount of information you give away . We all care about your safety. I’m an ex Cop in England , specialised in crime reduction for many years . We all hate the idea of you being scared. Please be careful and look after yourself , Mark. .
last comment I believe in the old saying for people, If you can't say nothing nice, then don't say nothing! but if you went by that rule on the internet that would probably 90% of the internet LOL, personally I would say if you don't know the individual(s) in the "real world" then their opinion is worth as much as a Zimbabwean Dollar if it's negative, positive comments maybe a slight bit more
As for intruders aboard.... I know that where you are, guns are out of the question... Get you a can of wasp spray. The kind that shoots several feet (or meters)... Spray an intruder in the face with that, and you will stop their advance! It works!
Every nasty, mean, rude commenter on your channel is a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath. These derive great pleasure in suffering of others (even the small annoyance of their rude comments), this is called Schadenfreude. Your best defense is offense, that is delete and speak not; predators bore when no fight is presented. To learn more of these predatory types look for Dr. Ramani Durvasula and Dr. Les Carter both psychologists and both on UA-cam; these are excellent resources. Be well sweetheart
hi love your beautiful boat , its looking stunning , hope you settle soon , it will take alittle time , but i personally think your doing great , from one lady to another , ignore any comments which are unhelpful , my regards liz from uk i am afraid i dress classically, blazers and shift dresses , heels and flats with lots of scarves ,white tee shirts and white blouses .of course jeans and straight leg trousers . thats me !
You seem to be such a capable young lady. You are turning Benjamin into a lovely little home. I like your presenting style; no airs and graces and a charming accent.

Another good video. How big is he? What motor have you got?
Hello from NYC. Would love to see some of your vintage clothing
Vintage coming soon, some of my older videos are about my vintage if you are interested xx
I think you must have seen my sheep or maybe my little Xmas cat
I have to admit I bought my dough this time!
Its the in the window when you are rolling the pizza base around the 10 minute mark, its could be a sheep lol, I make my dough using the bread maker as it has a dough setting and it always rises perfectly, bread makers are worth getting just for the dough settings
I enjoyed your video and subscribed.
Nice video ive subscribed i also have a boat a breath of fresh air lovely Happy lady great video lizzy x
Terry.
When that swiss roll nearly fell I had a surge of adrenaline
you should treat yourself to a powerful torch, something like an Olight Warrior X Pro, shine it at someone and it's blinding, even through a window, it's so bright they can't see who's holding it, chances are the will just run off.
Lovely video enjoyed getting to know you 👍
well done on getting alarms....so basically you have been around boats all of your life if your parents ran a boat hire company so well versed in how they work....which college did you go yo in the UK?
Hi! I studied styling at Middlesex University in London
Not sure what your plans are but have thought of getting a dog? Better than any alarm system by far. :)
8:50 " Be kind, be polite .......in the way you express yourself".
Very wise words.
Unfortunately addressing them to UA-cam viewers is like giving a donkey strawberries.
The most one can hope is that their discourtesy is mitigated by your fine manners.
Tea pot yayyyy.
:)
Hi cobba can you drive down canels with your boat like they do in England and what is your tattoo of
Hi! Yes you can, not at the moment sadly as the locks are closed until March.
It’s of a picture I took of a snowy forest scene in my favorite place in the world, Haute Savoie, France
Hi you drink your tea like I drink mine (WEAK) lol. Love your video's ,take care and be safe
lights make a good idea, but the air horn is the best. Noise, especially something like that calls attention from others. Also remember to start swearing very loud. That makes other people come to the disturbance.
Hello I would just like to ask if you brought your narrow boat in France or did you have it transported from the UK?
Hi! The original owners had it made in the uk but brought it over to France so I got it in France
@@BenjaminVintageFinds Thanks for the reply, you have a really lovely boat. I'm on the lookout for one in the Brittany region. Keep up the great work.
Be careful take care and your stunning by the way
Time for some CCTV equipment... 💙👊😎
That is very true, people just jump onto all the boats in the port thinking that no one lives there
just a thought, . at one time I lived on worked on my 28ft coach, parked in a lorry park, north london. . when my partener stayed over of a night walking between an across the lorry park, she was terrified of her ideas of beastly lorry drivers!?
Screamed when u nearly dropped your choc log hahaha
Trust me my heart almost stopped!
Did your parents purchase Benjamin for you?
Stay safe .
Hahah even the 90s are considered vintage now and I was born in the 90s!!
Lizzie ,
Please be careful with the amount of information you give away . We all care about your safety. I’m an ex Cop in England , specialised in crime reduction for many years .
We all hate the idea of you being scared. Please be careful and look after yourself ,
Mark. .
Thank you
Just be a bit careful about how much you give away on this medium . Most people are lovely , as you know . M
@@markaudley-thewles5920 I will be more aware of what I say about myself from now on, thank you xx
You need a cosy as well!
You could use a big dog!
I would love one!
last comment I believe in the old saying for people, If you can't say nothing nice, then don't say nothing! but if you went by that rule on the internet that would probably 90% of the internet LOL, personally I would say if you don't know the individual(s) in the "real world" then their opinion is worth as much as a Zimbabwean Dollar if it's negative, positive comments maybe a slight bit more
You are beutiful, Benjamin is awesome. What tea do you prefer? Maybe get as dog. Stay safe.
Be well sweetheart
hi love your beautiful boat , its looking stunning , hope you settle soon , it will take alittle time , but i personally think your doing great , from one lady to another , ignore any comments which are unhelpful , my regards liz from uk i am afraid i dress classically, blazers and shift dresses , heels and flats with lots of scarves ,white tee shirts and white blouses .of course jeans and straight leg trousers . thats me !
Brave girl, good luck, i bet you don't live on that boat full time....!!
I have been living on Benjamin full time for just under a month now, so still learning!
unrelated an please take as a compliment... great looking lips
Stay safe and take care.
