Re-Arming A Bomber | RAF Instructional Film (1941)

- Part of a series of RAF Instructional Films created to give recruits an idea of what they were in for as ground crew and armourers on an operational front-line airfield.
This particular field details the inspection, maintenance and arming of a Wellington bomber of 9 Squadron based at RAF Honington during 1941. It also goes through the process of sourcing bombs, moving them, arming them and finally loading them aboard an aircraft.
Frightning to realise that the time between this film being made and me joining 9 sqn at Honington (43 years) is almost the same as me joining the sqn and seeing this film (40 years). God I feel old.
I agree.WS=9sqn the bats in Adolfs Belfry.
V interesting thanks and nice to see the old Wimpy getting screen time.
Great close ups, yes.
Thanks for posting. Excellent, informative, and so British.
Fascinating !
A lot of work for the armourers. As far as assembling and loading bombs goes, nothing much had really changed 40-odd years later when I was doing it as a young plumber in the RAF, although the bombs were a bit lighter! Didn't do any "plumbing" on turret hydraulics either as Tornados didn't have them 😉
Fascinating! Thank you!
Very interesting 👍👍
I wonder how many lives were lost through accidents during the various processes?
Too many
Thank you. 🇬🇧
Now this is the side of war I want to learn about?!
Can't help but think of Harry Enfield here - jolly gosh whizz bang. 🙂
Pentagon I am in.
That is why they have armors.
This will be useful information... one day
