I can't tell you anything about her fitness routine, but I can tell you that she has asthma, Which makes this even more impressive.

There's a good chance she was naturally that hyper, I've been a fan of hers for years and I've found no other explanation. She is trained in opera, though, not just musical theatre. She was also in her late 30s here, which is (I believe) around peak age for a woman's voice, isn't it?

This is my all time favorite performance by Kristin! It's a testament to her powerhouse coloratura and incredible acting abilities, which as a fan and fellow soprano, I just can't get enough! She's probably the only person that can shoo Patti LuPone off the stage and get away with it, lol! Thank you for doing a deep dive as only you can! I do have the sheet music for this, but I haven't looked at it in a while because it's just so difficult, but I'm curious as to what dialogue, if any, is in it. I'll let you know in Discord. The "Oh my God!" was her ad lib for comic effect. I did a concert version of this show playing Dr. Pangloss. I would suggest that you listen to the original Broadway cast recording to hear Barbara Cook's incredible performance of this aria. And you are correct about the overture. How often does the overture of a Broadway musical become a standard piece for symphony orchestras around the world?
Because it's more of an operetta than a musical. Musically, Candide is more similar to H.M.S. Pinafore than West Side Story.
@MsAliciaRL The same can be said for "On The 20th Century". It's a musical, but musically, it's an operetta. And don't get me started on "Sweeney Todd" which is, as far as I'm concerned, an opera.
Has anyone seen Kristen's performance of " The Girl in 14 G"? It was a piece written for her, and absolutely showcases her talents for singing and acting.
I've seen it and I have the sheet music...it's a tour de force (diaphragm workout)!
@dianesparrow1592 That’s what I came here to say. That’s my favorite for. The Charismatic Singer has a reaction to that one, but not this song. Now we just need to get Jessica to react to that one and Elizabeth to do this one. Then we’ll be really happy. Lol

We did Candide in college, and our Cunegonde was terrific. Knowing what I do now about voice and the difficulty of that role, and remembering what I do about her performance, she was really great! This was over 25 years ago now, but still so memorable.

I think the "Oh my God" was just an adlib response to the fact she fell short of the spot on the couch where she was actually supposed to land.
I watched another analysis of this performance. They also pointed out that it was difficult to sing in sitting and leaning position like Ms. Chenoweth did at the beginning of the song, in corset most likely. And yet she still sang perfectly.
I like Kristin's interpretation of the character. She put her own spin on a role originated by the immortal Ms. Barbara Cook. I feel like if she didnt take the character in this direction the performance would have come off as her trying to impersonate Ms. Cook.

She has a part of the PAC in Broken Arrow, Okla named after her, has some of her out fits. That woman is tiny like really.

I don't know, the tone & technique is there but I just never felt like her humor here was grounded in the character-- the "Fraaaaaaaynce" gag is so unmotivated. I much preferred Diana Damrau's interpretation.
I prefer Damrau as well, for sheer vocal splendour. However, Cheno is deliberately hamming it up for this peformance and adding her broadway expertise in comedy to get more laughs. Love both versions, each for its own merit.
@@Diva_D I love June Anderson from the monster concert performance with Bernstein himself conducting, and with the marvelous Christa Ludwig as the Old Lady. Chenowith does do a great job, and all the talented sopranos who attempt this difficult piece show that there are more levels to Bernstein's Cunegonde than we might originally think. Here's Anderson: ua-cam.com/video/m122PR3nGtw/v-deo.html - bear in mind that she has to create a character, just as Chenowith does, but without the benefit of costume, props, or much freedom of movement .... and that, as Bernstein explains early on in the production, Anderson, like most of the cast, and Bernstein himself, was recovering from an awful flu mini-epidemic going around England during this time.

Diana's acting is decent but her technique is highly overrated. Average.
If you want to talk pure vocals, for me it’s June Anderson (although Damarau is a fav for other pieces). Chenoweth is a ham and it works well for the role. Everyone I’ve ever spoke with that read the book, likes Kristin’s over the top interpretation
