It doesn't happen very often, but today we received a clearance for the VOR B approach towards runway 09. This means the last part will be a circling approach which is done visually. Since the change just came in effect, all aircraft needed to hold above ADORI.
You can hear a busy airspace and everybody is making a plan....
We for example expected an approach runway 27... now we had to hold for runway 09 and our alternate will be behind us instead of straight ahead. How long is this going to last and how much fuel/time do we have before we have to make a diversion.
This makes it an interesting approach.
This is old footage I never uploaded. (Don't ask me why...) This flight was flown on the 21ste of may 2018. Flown on the Boeing 737-800 PH-HZN.
No music this time. I couldn't incorporate it.

In clear weather it is even better indeed! But in almost 15 years... from all the approaches I've done to this airport... only 3 where for runway 09.

Ben inmiddels zelf veilig en wel geimmigreerd naar Belgie en al maandje aan het werk (in NL). De hele verhuizing en immigratie heeft wel wat vertraging op gelopen en meer moeilijkheden door de corona maar het is zo goed als afgerond.
Hoe zit het nu verder met je baan?
Hoop echt van harte dat je kunt blijven vliegen.

@mightymkl Amazing video, I loved it, made me nostalgic again.. 😊 As previous commented on the video with LJU landing, I told you that my departure that time was in 1980/81 for arrival at HER, with the Aviogenex TU-134A. HER was my second airport landing after KLU, coming from ZRH. That's why HER is still remains nostalgic for me. I was 11 year old that time lol 😂
It's interesting to see your landing on 09, as normally or most time is the RWY 27 standard. Coming in over the bay of Malia. I landed there 4-5 times, always on 27. Crete is great and want to go back again. Maybe that time with a friend who is pilot of an A319 of a Swiss company in the cockpit for filming. I could get a special allowness for that. For UA-cam. Michael, leuk dat je weer "terug" bent. Leuk om de landing eens van de andere kant mee te maken. Meestal is het recht op Chersonissos af, langs de kust naar Heraklion.

Fijn weer wat te vernemen. Ik had al eerder een mail gestuurd, maar net toch even kinnen kijken en ziedaar, een heel fraaie aproach. Mooi camerastandpunt ook. Even weer ouderwets kunnen genieten. Het zijn heel mooie beelden, ook al is het uit 2018. Het genieten is er niet minder om.

Was een oude video maar weer super , ook complimenten aan de copiloot die het toestel netjes aan de grond heeft gezet, blijft het leuk vinden dat je dat ook laat zien, als er iets voordoet weet je als passagier dat het toestel aan de grond gezet kan worden door copiloot
We zijn beide volwaardige vliegers!
Dus dat maakt deze films inderdaad leuk om naar te kijken. Soms land ik hem... soms m'n collega.

Amazing! I grew up in Heraklion and only once in my life have ever landed on 09 and that one time I was a passenger, not flying. Interesting also that in your company LGIR is not captains only.
To fly towards LGIR the captain needs to be at least one year captain.... (experience). The first officer is also not allowed for the first 9 months... We do have something written about this airport in our briefing-book. But the captain can always decide to make the landing at LGIR if he wants or thinks that is better. I have to admit that our FO's are well trained, so FO's fly a lot to LGIR.
In my career I had flown runway 09 for about 3 times... but this is in a time period of 15 years not much.
