I love the fact that the composers managed to give the appropriate feeling to each level (Egypt, China, etc.) despite the limited choice of tones at that time.
I remember the "pyramid"/second stage music blowing my mind when I was a kid. Even by today's standards the music in this game has great melodies. I make music as hobby and video game music has been inspiring me my whole life...
Hearing this, especially world music 3, reminds me of the day I almost decided to end my life, life as a child for me wasn’t easy. We dealt with money issues, health issues and just a lot going on. I remember my parents didn’t have money to buy me the latest game console or anything new, but I remember my dad coming home from work and him handing me a Gameboy and this game. I was 8 years old it was 2008 so this game was already old but I remember just playing it and being so grateful to have a dad like him. I never cared for new stuff but this really was the day that brought me into gaming. Now we’re living a good life and everything is going well.
Imagine being tasked with game music for a gameboy game and then making something this iconic. The industry today is full of talented people, but the people who made shit like this, with what they had at the time, were pioneers of the field.
Video game composers are so underrated, both the Japanese and also Americans like Jeremy Soule. I don't understand why video game music is seen as a "lower" art than other music
Even though it's so simple by modern standards, I think this one is my favourite mario game. It feels like no other game in the series, and of course the OST is just fantastic.
The first time I ever remember truly appreciating video game music was when I plugged headphones into my gameboy in 1990 or so and just vibed to "World Music 3" for several minutes

Trust me we will never forget our past of these beautiful old games music. Our mind might forget some, but our hearts never will. I played lots of games from the late 80's until now and own every systems that ever came out and I still miss the days of NES, super Nes, Gameboy and Sega.
The first one was nostalgic not because I played the game but because I watched SMG4 videos made in the day 2010s that use that same soundtrack🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
At first glance, Daisy was a surprising character. Back in the 90s, we had no idea Daisy was different from Peach, but it was the truth. That was, if you weren't living in Japan. We didn't know how to handle her back in the 90s only because we couldn't tell how she was different from Peach in her earlier appearances. Daisy looked too similar to Peach in her earlier appearances, the localizers and gaming journalists didn't know that Daisy and Peach were different characters to begin with until the 21st century.
this is a rebellious Mario game, new enemies and locations, protagonists even new mechanics, sadly as an initial release of gameboy games it lacks levels but still a pretty impressive one, and glad Nintendo didn't forget the series in some way, naming two of the 3d games into Land series
This IS one of the best, if not the best, mario melodies in a mario game. Whoever composed this music is a genius. These melodies are earworms that have been in my head for 20 years..
Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka. Also composed Dr. Mario, Mother, EarthBound, Game Boy Camera and some other bangers. Was CEO of Creatures Inc. for over 23 years (stepped down last year) and is all-around a rockin' dude. I recommend watching the episode on him on the Red Bull's game music doc Diggin' in the Carts.
The first mario game I ever beat (and I havent beaten many of them) and I can remember jamming so hard to the music!!! even getting some of the songs stuck in my head 15+ years later! Especially World 1 music!
This music was so legendary- it was the first game I ever played myself as a child. At that time, in 1998, it was already old school technology and my brother left all of his games at home when he went to college. The label art really drew me in like everyone else. It led to my love for Japanese animation and gaming, especially Pokemon, which has by far left the biggest impact on my life period. I also met Veronica Taylor years ago, and visited many Pokemon Centers irl and I have so many other crazy wonderful memories. Super Mario Land made all of that possible, because the next game I played was Pokemon Red when my parents got me a gameboy.
Excellent rip of Game Boy music! Most have the music a bit too high-pitched, but your channel has the music exactly the way it sounded on the Game Boy.
Super Mario Land was my first Game Boy game growing up. I still play it. Brings back memories. I own this game for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.
Some of these tracks did NOT need to go on for 3min x.x Listening to this in my car I was about to pull my hair out with how long the Bonus Game Music section was as well as "Oh Daisy"
Apparently this was made after the NES version. I always wondered why the console version would be less feature rich than a space constrained handheld version.
There is something special about the Gameboy synth sounds, and this soundtrack is one of the best on the system. So good, brings me back to the simpler times...
I'm probably not the only one who has mentioned, or will mention this but, I do think the timings could be shortened, instead of just having them all set to 3 minutes.
this game has a lot of heart, too bad it’s stuck on a GameBoy. I’m sad Nintendo never acknowledges it. I need a remake with extra content so bad! It would be amazing.
I love how they played around with the stereo so much 😂 I just played the game with headphones and was like "whoa, that's crazy!" I think they used the effect a bit too much, especially in the earlier worlds. It makes it feel like a gimmick. And what also surprised me is that the effect was still here!
Before I had a Walkman, I had a Gameboy. I'd get to certain stages just to fall asleep to the music with those big, stupid grey foam headphones plugged in. My poor parents went through so many batteries because of me.
I loved that the Gameboy games gave us something different instead of yet another Mario vs Bowser. I'd l like for Wario and the alien thing to return as main antagonists.
I always played this game on my Grandma's old GameBoy at her house when we would visit. It's been over a decade since we lost her but this soundtrack always makes me remember those early memories running around her apartment. I love you Grandma. Thank You.
Today i had the melody of world 3 in my head all day long (which lead me here to listen to the real thing). Crazy that these melodies still are engraved into my memory after over 30 years. Sitting in my room, playing on my gameboy.. those were good times. No climate change, no war, no bills, no sickness or pain to worry about.. just me and my little plumber that i could make jump on mushrooms. What a trip down memory lane.
Same thing... 29 years ago I played this gameboy videogame... world 3 music still in my mind since then... searching for it on youtube... and here i am... thank you so much. i cried like the child i was... remembering all the good memories passed. God bless you
About 20 some odd years ago, I traded my playstation for a gameboy pocket, pokemon blue, and this game (and some other Tiger handheld system, but I never really touched it). This has some serious nostalgia value! I remember that first track playing on loop when I would have to stop playing, and finish my homework.
When Daisy first appeared in Super Mario Land, most people were surprised that she was a different character. Her heavy resemblance to Peach in her earlier designs fooled us. During the 90s, we had no idea she was different from Peach because we were very familiar with Peach, and Daisy resembling Peach was what caused people to confuse Daisy for Peach. I'm sorry we caused Daisy to suffer an identity crisis because we knew deep down that Daisy was a different character. We just didn't know how different Daisy was from Peach in her earlier designs and gaming appearances because Peach was well known during that time. I'm happy Daisy appeared in Super Mario Land. It was hard to believe Daisy and Peach were different characters during the 1990s, but it was the truth. I was sad I couldn't play as Daisy during the 1990s because most people were too young to understand Daisy or they weren't convinced that Daisy was a different princess. Back then, we were just too dense to understand Daisy.
I played this game when I was 11. The funny thing is, as much as Wolrd Music 1 feels nostalgic to me today (46), it also felt nostalgic at 11. I remember turning the game on just to listen to this tune.

Yep.. creativity and imagination were most relied on. Where as today, technology is more relied on almost.
Video game composers are so underrated, both the Japanese and also Americans like Jeremy Soule. I don't understand why video game music is seen as a "lower" art than other music
The Ending brings back memories. 45 mins of game play to get this special melody.

try beating the game twice, then set up a hardcore run on 4-3 with only 3 lives and see if you can beat the level
