  • Penn Jillette and Martin Mull Play together on The Green Room with Paul Provenza. This clip did not end up in the final episode but it is so wonderful. Penn is living a life-long dream and you can really see it.
    This is from show 6, the final episode of season 1.
    For the real geek-fans, this was the 3rd show we shot. All the shows were shot in a different order than they aird.

    Martin Mull is a comic treasure. If he was British he'd have been knighted.

    I've seen Penn and Teller live twice and each time Penn was rocking out on the upright bass before the show. It was funny how many people came in and sat down never realizing it was him

    The action of that lowest string must be like 5 inches high because that buzz from slapping it is insane.

    Never knew Penn Jillette played bass until seeing the final episode of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday. He played a black Rickenbacker alongside Trace Adkins, his Apprentice opponent. He played it like a true professional and having lots of fun doing so. I couldn't believe it!

    Thanks for posting this! I didn't know that Penn played either. He's pretty good. I think I had heard Mull before. This was a cool number.
    I can say "cool" 'cause I'm old!

      No you said 'number', that makes you old! Number is jazz-speak for 'song'. Funny nobody mentions Tommy Smothers, the Smothers Brothers were huge in the late 50s and 60s, always fighting with network censors for protesting the Vietnam war. First generation folk music died out when the war was over, they bought a winery. Martin Mull was also very funny on TV in the 70s.

    I've been looking for this episode everywhere and just can't find it anywhere! Every other episode of this show was really easy to come across!
    Anybody got a link to a torrent or a download or maybe could up it here? THX! :)

      He needs a tech, for his once in a decade musical performance. Think a nice plywood upright would do however.

      ***** Doesn't it go EADG
      I mean, I've been playing bass for nearly a decade, and that's what it's always been in standard tuning.
      Am I to understand there's a difference between double bass and upright bass? Because as far as what I've experienced and been told by those who have played for lifetimes, there is no difference between them.
      Or did you mean that the bass Penn is playing has it's E String tuned down to a C?

    • @poryis5235
      @poryis5235 8 років тому +2

      No the Astro is mistaken. Penn's E string is buzzing because his right hand technique is terrible. The Upright bass (same as double bass) is tuned to 4ths from E to G. There are alternate tunings, but the low E is never a C unless there is an extension.

      yhea i think it is because he plays with more of an electric bass style of playing with using 2 fingers while most upright players play with the 2 fingers combined to get a phatter sound. i don't play upright but electric.

    • @johnkeen7825
      @johnkeen7825 5 років тому +2

      @TheAstro30 no its not tuned to C and so what if it buzzes from playing too hard! let's see you do some magic!
