  • Hey Everyone!
    This was the last 10 days or so prior to going on the grocery haul for two months, rotating and inventorying, and using up what needed to be used, assessing what we went through and what we would need more of etc, all part and parcel of attempting to stay within a budget of sorts for our food!

    Ps. I live for your hauls and how you use them.
    Please don't be so hard on yourself, Nyssa.

      HAPPY MOTHERS DAY (early)
      I would like to tell you that a lot of things you cook, the ingredients, I don't eat.....HOWEVER, when I watch and see what you make, I would try anything you set in front of me. You eat with your eyes first, then you smell it, and by then, you can't wait to eat.
      Thank you. Where did you get all your culinary skills? Such a diversified menu. Lucky family!

      There is a sourdough cracker that only uses discard and butter (I'm sure dairy free would work) and they are delicious. It's a liquid dough and takes no time at all

      Thank you Amber, it is lovely to see that slow continuous organic growth, of people who seem to genuinely appreciate the content! I sometimes envy people who go viral (for the dollar factor) but at the same time, I like dealing with people who want to be here, and found me because they like this kinda thing, than the many extras who would find me for potentially negative things lol.

      It's taken practice heh, but I'm pretty happy with how the food works these days, even when its lean, there's still plenty, not as much fresh etc as I'd like, but we still eat plenty of fresh stuff as well, its just a little weighted towards the beginning of the shopping period heh.

    Nyssa, when looking for a large box of fish filets, look for a restaurant supply that is open to public.
    Here in US, I go to US Foods/Chef Supply; they are pick up only.
    I get 40# box of chicken breast or thigh, or 2 pc of 10# turkey breast---all boneless, skinless. And it all goes in the canner.
    The apple abundance.....make unsweetened applesauce to use in a plain cake or, bread(?), replaces oil. Or chunky for an apple spice cake for breakfast or tea.😊

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  Місяць тому

      I am going to have a look around! unfortunately, costco is cheaper than most supply places for chicken etc here, I have no idea why! But I don't think I looked at their frozen fish fillets, just the pre crumbed ones, I'll have to have a look!
      The apple abundance was a couple of years ago now, I don't have a surplus atm, but I totally did, I had dozens of jars of apple butter/sauce and I still have a few, and I made apple butter bbq sauce with it too, which was so so good! :D

      I don't think I've checked at aldi! you know, sometimes, because they don't have pricing online, I forget to double check the stuff that I don't always buy, I know the stuff I do buy and the costs at aldi, but when I'm looking for something new I forget!

    Can i ask, why not buy a dairy free plant based cheese from somewhere so it tastes and melts like real cheese?

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  Місяць тому

      It’s very expensive :). Especially when you have as many people eating it as we do. I used to buy one from Costco but it was coconut milk based as well, so if I can replicate it at home, all to the better :D

      We lost a couple when the grey water stopped running all the way to the end but the apples and oranges and peach are still going, slowly, but that’s par for the course in our dirt/weather but they’re progressing, maybe one day they’ll be a decent size lol

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  Місяць тому

      Yes, we seem to get them almost all year round! I do use the canned ones for specific things but if I have fresh that need using I tend to use them first, the apple butter bbq sauce we made is definitely a winner though, but we just don’t go through sauce all that quickly either!

      I do! I put an order in with mum hehe, I've been wanting a ceramic lined drink bottle for ages, but I just couldn't spend the money, so expensive for just a drink bottle, but I can't stand drinking out of stainless so I don't have an insulated one. So I've gotta send her the link and she'll buy for me hehe :D

    Wondering if one of those prerty necklaces is an amber necklace you wear to help with your chronic pain issues related to your Trigeminal Neuralgia and if so does it work?
    Hope you dont mind me asking 🙂

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  Місяць тому

      They are both amber and other semi precious stones and I have no idea if they actually help but they can’t hurt! I used to wear silver but I had some serious issues with psoriasis while nursing the twins, possibly because I would tandem nurse and they would grab at the necklace and scratch me, and because both hands were busy I couldn’t stop them, so my neck would get all inflamed, I took the necklace off (it was a 21st present mind you) but hated not wearing anything so ordered amber when I ordered the kids some, my skin cleared right up, which was touted as a possibility, so I have just not gone back to silver heh :)
      When the twins were babies/toddlers, the different coloured amber was the only way we could tell them apart easily lol

      The quality on the main camera is a lot better than my phone, sound as well with the mic built in, so its easier to stand in front of a tripod, and really, I'm just being whingey about walking out to the garden solar shed lol, its not that far, I just have this tendency to put it off and then its too late to do it and urgh hehe.
