Always felt like my fascination with old-school camping and outdoorsmanship was a rather niche interest, I'm really glad to find your videos and be learning so much. I grew up reading my grandfather's scout manuals and using my dad's old canvas rucksacks. I dabbled in living history as well but so few folks were truly interested in this side of it. Many thanks for all your work in putting these videos up.
Thanks for watching! Yes it is a niche, but I think its getting to be a bigger one. As more folks find the videos and share them, other folks are either going to get interested or find that other folks ar.
I'm in my 70's now and this is how I remember camping, hiking, etc ... even into the 1950's. There were no REI's, all that was in the far future. We all wore and used the surplus gear without thinking about it much ...
Finally had a chance to sit down and watch this. Nicely done! There are a lot of good points here and stuff I am constantly saying to folks who show up to camp looking like they just rolled out of a trench in Verdun! Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for watching! So far, I haven't seen anybody come from the trenches down here, even though most of the guys participating have WW1 Impressions. Most of them also do Civil War and/or Indian Wars/Span Am. Toss in a couple who also do CCC and Late 19th Century Western Frontier and we get a pretty good mix.
Thanks for watching! Don't feel too bad about your den. The "cabin is two panels, one 6' x 8' and the other 6' x 4'. The entire area I'm in is just beg enough for the chair.
Great illustrations. I once saw a reissued Sears catalog from the WW1 period and they sold a complete soldiers outfit. Not sure why unless it was for officers to buy. Wish I could find it again. I also have a couple of 1925 hunting and trapping magazines that have great information not only from the pictures and articles but also the adds.
Thanks for watching! Yes, Officers were required to buy their own uniforms. With the rapid expansion of the Army at the beginning of the war many stores that did not usually sell "ready-made" uniforms included them in their catalogs. I'd love to see it.

Same here. If it wasn't Surplus from Mickey Finn's on Elm Street, it was JC Higgins because Daddy got a 10% employee discount. Thanks for watching!
One of my favorite youtube finds of 2022

Great video. A lot of good information. Thank you. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Thanks for watching!
That “get off my lawn” scene made me laugh loudly 😂
Then my job here on earth has been completed and I can go back to the Home Planet. Thanks for watching!
"get off my lawn" LOL hey that's my line. Great video as usual.
I thinks is kinda universal for guys over 50----Thanks for watching!
Love your new studio and Intro scene. Your studio makes my den look pitiful. Thanks for your videos.

I could have listened and watched you “blather “ as long as you wanted.
Very interesting, informative!
Thanks!
Careful what you wish for 😉. Thanks for watching!
Those photos were informative in themselves. Your explanation of the military surplus system clipped some of my fantasy kit in the bud.
Thanks for watching!
I love watching your shows it helps and is so informative.
Thanks for watching! I need to get out there some time.

I can help for folks who need civ war vendors, I actually do early 1870s infantry living history too.
Thanks! Might could post them over at Bannerman's Camp so folks "not in the Know" have a place or two to start. Thanks for watching!
I did not see a copy of On Your Own In the Wilderness by Townsend Whelen on your bookshelf.
Well, I've got a bunch of the Early Writers on .pdf, but those don't display well on the bookshelf. Thanks for watching!
"......it sucked dead birds." 😂🤣
But, it did suck dead birds-----
