I am so glad I found this video! My wife and I are making the move from ice coolers to fridges. We were planning on buying the Dometic cfx3 25L for our overnight camping trips and were curious what size Jackery to buy to keep the fridge running while the Jeep is shut off. If the 240 ran your 35 for 25+ hours, then it should be more than enough for us! We considered getting a larger fridge, but we pre-cook and pre-freeze all our camping foods in zip-lock bags, so I'm sure the 25L will hold plenty for five or six meals on the trails, plus a bit of water :)
Great. I have to stress I loaded the fridge with water containers and ran it for a day or two to pre chill everything. If you are adding not chilled food the fridge will use MUCH more electric because it runs much longer to chill the food. Once the food is chilled it only runs about 15 min an hour (depending on a lot of variables). If you are in a very hot environment you wattage may vary. My numbers are a good starting place to factor in your variables. For instance on a long trip I have to buy more food - I go to the store to buy it and its somewhat warmer by the time I get it back to camp. That will cost me more in energy to re-cool the food. Hopefully you get the idea. My test numbers were done in my living room at constant indoor temperature. =Cosmo 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos SUBSCRIBE ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweems =𝓒𝓸𝓼𝓶𝓸 ✅

We have so many more options available. Here I thought I was "on it" with my tiny portable phone charger. lol I'm on a plateau near the Cascade foothills so the windstorms every fall are very eventful. lol I've been wanting to add more to our preparedness in the event of earthquakes or Mt. For a weekend warrior, replacing the energy used is not an issue by recharging at home over a week of time. Thx for the time trial. I think the new 300 is going to replace the 240. Sounds like anything any of them will keep a 12v compressor fridge running during pauses in driving or overnight during a road trip. 😎

The big variable here is your fridge. While our fridges are comparable size. Your ARB is consuming 21 watts an hour in a best case scenario. I averaged the 4 tests I did and the Dometic is consuming only 9.2 watts an hour in controlled conditions. I provided a baseline so others can bake in their own variables. It is impossible for room temp water and fridge to consume the same amount of energy as prechilled in a start up test like I did and not use more energy. I am confident I can duplicate my results. I did not use the fridge display, I measured the water in the containers with a probe before I started. Pre-chill is critical when attempting maximum ice life or energy conservation. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching. =Cosmo

You energy will go further with 12V to 12V. Using the AC inverter stepping up to 110V from 12V and then back down to 12V to power the fridge wastes lots of energy. Some say it wastes 20%. Hi Cosmo, Playing with Sticks referenced you one day, so I decided to check you out. I'm glad I did. I just retired 5 weeks ago and I am planning some trips. I live in FL so your adirondack videos caught my eye. I'm not new to camping but have never been that far north. What would you suggest as the best months for fewer bugs and cooler weather. I don't care if it gets down to 35 or so but not much colder. Being from FL it's summer for 8 months. Thanks , I'll keep watching.
Hi Karen. You want to avoid May most years in the Adriondacks due to black fly season. Early April is OK. Med September to mid October is usually spectacular and no virtually no bugs. A well insulated simple plastic ice box keeps your food cold for 2 days without ANY power. All you need to do is pre-chill all the food/drinks....maybe freeze a gallon of drinking water to keep up the thermal mass. Bought mine 30 years ago for $20. A $1000 is a lot of money to pay for an extra 2 days cold. It is also made from the same tech that goes into a smart phone...so it will probably last as long..
Thanks for your comment. I purchased a few years ago when the price was 50% less. The technology is a compressor fridge. Extremely high efficiency. Sorry my phone does not have a compressor... Ha ha ha. I started out with a $20 cooler. I used it for few years. I wanted to stay off grid in the wilderness for long periods without making trips for ice. I go our for a week to 21 days at a time (if course many shorter trips too). So far I am very happy with the fridge and it is allowing me to do what I want. In my case I calculated the cost for the ice. In my case at the price I paid the fridge paid for itself in less that 2 years due to the amount of money I save buying ice and sending that money down the drain. ua-cam.com/video/ITJNEPGb7MY/v-deo.html Thank You for watching. Ok, I'm comparing the jakery chart side-by-side from amazon, it listed mini cooler (60w). For 1000 = 7hrs, 500 = 9hrs, 240 = 4 hrs. But you are giving by 24 + Hours running a frig/freezer.
I tested mine and I spelled out the test methodology. Both of us have no idea how Jackery tested or what equipment they were using. I have repeated this test and I use this fridge off grid 99% of the time in real world camping conditions. . Change the ambient temp and the results will of course change. I provided this as a baseline for you to modify for your conditions. - if you are camping in Arizona desert in 110 temps your energy consumption will differ from camping in Maine in a shaded forest. I provide my data to help people get started not to cover whatever conditions they can dream up! Ha ha ha . Each Dometic size has a different energy draw so its hard to say. Also I camp for a week at a time and am totally dependent on the sun (by choice) So Under clouds in dense clouds I need 600 watts to meet all my energy needs )more than the fridge). If you are getting good direct sun daily the too would be a good choice for the Dometic CFX-35. If your driving daily that will help charge Jack too. =Cosmo Thank You for watching. How long do you think the jackery will run a fan and mini fridge for?
How many watts do they draw? Its written on the appliance. Add the fan wattage and cooler wattege together and divide that into the wattage of the Jackery you are thinking of. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Cosmo! Did you test fridge time while running the fridge on DC or AC? Think there would be a difference? I'm considering the 500, but will likely run the fridge on DC so the AC is available for laptops, etc.
Dc To DC wastes less energy. I estimaet 20% loss going DC to AC back to DC 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Temps can go as low as 20s sometimes but often 70s in the day. I went Last Oct and loved it. ua-cam.com/video/R4I756zK3Sg/v-deo.html Also ua-cam.com/video/M2qrvgHkpWs/v-deo.html Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Have you thought of trying and reviewing the Lioncooler by Acopower? I seems to be something you would be interested in, solar powered. I would trust your review over anybody else’s.
Thanks Joanne. I will keep it in mind. I have the opportunity to review many things but only review what I use and find good! If an opportunity arises i will take a look at the fridge. Regards and Thanks for watching =Cosmo
Thanks your videos are very helpful. You show a tent shelter that covers the back end galley from the weather of your teardrop. How do you like it? I'm looking for something the same for my teardrop.
I like it, Its only usable up to 22 mph wind. I purchased at REI. I don't think they make it any longer. Not sure Keeps me out of the rain. I have other videos of it in action. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Ha ha ha . 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

@@CosmoWeems Thanks much for your vids and this demo. We lived in CA and east coast so we're always on the go! I might give a try, perhaps the 240 model to see the real testing to keep charging on the road from west to east. 😀😀😀
ua-cam.com/video/hZ7JvD0MDmA/v-deo.html While stopped overnight the 240 was drained 20% In the morning the sun charged the 240. Pre cooling the contents is critical or I would use double the energy! Let me know how it works out. =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems I would like the 500W, who wouldn't? The 240 is lower price and if works well, upgrade is possibility. We will update once we buy it and test drive it. Thanks for your information. 2 thumbs up!!!
All depends on what you are powering. I agree bigger is better. I showed the 240 because I used it that trip in that way. Good luck! =Cosmo

I’m thinking hard about the new 300.
Depends on what your need is Lisa. I am getting lots of use but you see how I use it on the road. =Cosmo
Thanks for your video. I’m considering using a domestic fridge in my Tacoma 24/7 . What combo would you recommend? Maybe the Jackery 500 with a 100W solar panel on top? Thanks in advance
Ya I have used Ice and sometimes still do, I could get 4 days with chunk ice. The fridge is a much better match for my needs but of course it costs more for startup! Holly smokes, I just googled to see what those things cost......... Definitely not for the once per year camper.
Ya fridge price doubled not sure why. Maybe pandemic or something. I use it as an emergency power source at home and I travel a lot. If there is no need it makes no sense. Thanks for your comment =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems For sure if you do a lot of traveling and camping I can see it as an investment.

What has happened here? The content of this channel used to be outdoor content, travel with some useful information. Lately it has become product shilling. This one was "phoned in."
I appreciate Cosmo's reviews. That's actually how I found his channel when I was looking for information about the Clam shelters. I then subscribed because of Cosmo's personality, sense of humor, and sense of adventure when traveling. It's nobody's fault that the rona has locked us down for a half a year. Well, we *can* blame it on China....
I agree if you dont want to have a refrigerator off grid on solar and battery power or you prefer to waste money learning by trial and error rather than have hard data - This is not to exciting. The gear is available is totally staggering. and allows me to set up camp in total comfort. Having a the right kayak for a teardrop trailer is really wonderful So I dont mind sharing. at all. I plan to do lots of deep woods boondocking i in October so stay tuned. Thanks for your comments. =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems i dont think its annoying to compare the chargers and you didnt recover every detail to put us to sleep rather you talked about usage comparison and thats it. Then said people could watch your other video or look up charging time.
Btw.. canyou charge and use at the same time?
@@cherriemckinstry131 Yes you can use them all while charging (except the small 160) I do this with all my units so I go into the night with a full charge. Thanks for watching =Cosmo
