I attempted this method 2 months ago using java moss on lava rock and setup C02 injection. I used a scoop of greek yogurt in my "moss slushy" and lots of mold formed very fast within a week. I ended up flooding my tank after 3 weeks because of it and was worried this method failed but to my delight moss is just now starting to cover the entire rock and get thick! That's for the yogurt 🤣 I was thinking about that and all your videos, they are grate. I'm starting the dry method in 2 weeks (time to find in nature yellow rocks ) In a cube 40cm I will use Jawa moss going whit I know for first time :) If I have mold what I need to do ? Sorry for the long post :/
This is absoutely brilliant! Thank you for sharing this with me, this was just what I needed to get the look I want. You are an absolute ARTIST at what you do. I enjoy watching you and your work so much.
I am doing this right now, 3 days in at the moment following your method! I soaked my scape for about 3 days and then grinded up the moss and aqua soil. I’m using the Tropica soil with Java moss as I figured that would be an easier moss to try for my first time. I painted it all over where I would like it to grow, mainly on the rocks and particular places of wood. I also have put small, thin pieces of Java moss on the smaller wood sticks, not grinded and not glued or tied down and gave them a light coat of the moss slush. Because there is no water, they are just sticking to the wood with no mess. I have noticed that I need to spray them down about 3-4 times a day so far to keep them very moist. It’s only a 25l so I guess the light is drying it out more quickly. I’m going to leave it about 5 weeks in total, the tank is located in my kitchen which has constant a nice warm environment. Thank you for work, it’s helping me a lot. Wish me luck 🤞
You can also use finely sieved / or ground peat moss, mixed in with the aquarium moss. You use it instead of aqua soil or yoghurt etc. It looks like soil, and it’s naturally acidic so it’s very good for preventing microbes and mould etc. It’s often used for getting plant seeds to sprout. Just make sure you use peat moss not coco peat, they’re different things. I’ve seen Jurijs Jutjajevs use springtails to eat mould too.
@@gixxer1111 no worries, I’m not familiar with Fluval peat so I’m not sure if it differs to regular peat moss / peat soil, but I wish you every success.
I would love to give this a go, it obviously works, it brilliant, yeh! you need patience, but the rewards look awesome, we'll done mate, great tip, can't wait for it to grow out. 👏👌👍
I tried this with Christmas moss, following your instructions exactly. Maintained a consistent 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the tank, used beneficial bacteria in the water i misted it with two to three times a day, kept it covered, but now 4 weeks in the only thing that has happened is that I wasted a large clump of moss and the wood I used is black due to the aqua soil that was mixed in. Has anyone else tried this with any success or has anyone done it with java Christmas moss? I don't know if I'm unlucky or if this just doesn't work as advertised.
I love how Taiwan moss fans out so that's what I have right now, I'm going to start a lava rock cliff scape with it using this method. it seems so fun and rewarding, beautiful too
