    I love watching Carmack talk about VR (or anything really). The guy is an endless fountain of enthusiasm.

    Oculus, for the love of god, schedule things so that Carmack can go an hour or two longer if he wants to. His Quakecon keynotes are legendary for a reason. People love listening to him.

    10:25 I think he makes a really good point here about how when you form memories...to your brain it seems that those things are things that actually happened to YOU and not just in the game world.

    I so desperately wish this was longer. I could listen to Carmack for 8 hours straight without getting bored.
    As much as I like following his work in VR, I secretly dream of his return to aerospace. I'd have some serious issues in my pants if he teamed up with Musk and took a high position at SpaceX.

    VR is the future for so many applications. No better person to help usher this era in than John Carmack. Why was this only an hour though?

    A John Carmack talk less than 3 and a half hours is not a John Carmack talk. I hope they fix this next time.

      +John Malkovich I love Joe Rogan but I don't think he would be competent enough to interview John properly. This would be like Cenk (from TYT) interviewing Johan Andersson on low level programming, which isn't exactly Cenk's area of expertise to say the least.

    • @fifthgear93
      @fifthgear93 9 років тому +1

      John Malkovich I understand that but still, the knowledge of Joe Rogan I reckon would be pretty limited regarding programming. The difference between the people you mentioned and Carmack is that most of these people had common interests with Joe. Joe was able to make the conversation flow really nice. Don't get me wrong, I would still like to see such a conversation, but I remain skeptical weather or not it can work out. Say what you want about Cenk, but the comparison still stands. Cenk wouldn't be able to talk to Johan on these topics in detail the same way Joe wouldn't be able to discuss VR and game development with Carmack. If Carmack doesn't discuss these topics in a way in which Joe would be able to understand, add to, and ask questions, then what will they talk about? Puppies and kittens?
      And about Cenk, he is an idiot sometimes especially when he goes after new atheists. I get really really furious at him for doing so, but I still love the guy cause he fights to end political corruption trough wolf-pac

      John Malkovich You are so fucking full of yourself. I've watched around 20-25 full 3hr episodes of JRE. Maybe even more. Idiot. You completely ignored my point about the fact that Carmack mostly talks about programming and development of games/tech. You fail to understand what I am saying and you go on the offence because you think I am talking shit about your idol. What sad silly little person you are. Go back into the hole you crawled out of.

    I represent one household who are eagerly waiting for the very things John is pursuing. Netflix, Minecraft, vacation site panoramics, go pro stereo immersion (flying down mountainsides!) and more! When this thing is ready for primetime, there's us ready with our budget pencils out! In short, I'm saying there's a huge unrecorded consumer base who are just sitting quietly waiting to jump into this. Consider all the summer fairs charging us $5 for 10 minutes at a booth.

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. Рік тому

      Lol it's officially ready for primetime. Hell, it was arguably largely ready for primetime 3 years ago in late 2020 with the launch of the $300 Quest 2!
      That said, Quest 3 does make "spatial computing" (aka virtual display computing) use-cases legitimately practical w/ its higher res dual display panels + crystal clear edge-to-edge pancake lenses in a way that Quest 2 with its lower resolution single panel screen, VASTLY blurrier Fresnel lenses, & lack of high quality color mixed reality capable stereo 3D passthrough simply couldn't. 🤷

      I know this is SUPER old, but the stage recording cameras were likely a built-in part of the theater installation they held this event at. 🤷
      (Aka physically mounted in the ideal place to capture the stage & esp. the center.)
      Meaning it was likely filmed with cameras >≈4-5 years older than when this event actually happened in 2015. (Ala think like a ≈2010-2011 era video camera where most were still 1080i/720p, with 1080i usually being the automatic default. 🤷)

  • @bar10dr

    Kind of sad that the official oculus connect 2 keynote video is in a lower resolution than most new phone display these days. Carmack is still awesome!

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. Рік тому

      Even 8 years later most videos on UA-cam are still 1080p. The benefits for pushing past that point simply aren't worth the additional data cost & hassle for most scenarios when the VAST MAJORITY of phone displays were & still are 1080p. 🤷

    Fuck yeah!!, after years and years, It's really happening, finally real VR is here, I think I'm as excited about the whole thing as John is, 2016 is going to be God Damned Awesome!!

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. Рік тому

      ... Lol and turns out that 2016 was actually pretty meh for VR, with 2017 & 2018 that followed actually somehow being EVEN WORSE!!! 🤷
      IMO, VR didn't get properly good until ≈2019 when proper widely acclaimed new AAA VR games like Asgard's Wrath along with groundbreaking new headsets like Quest 1 & Index started to come out; before it REALLY started hitting its stride in 2020 with Half-Life: Alyx & then Quest 2.

    Brilliant, but I disagree on one point: multi-user movie-watching HAS VALUE if you have funny friends. MST3K has proven this. Please get that working in Oculus Video and/or the Netflix app, which are otherwise quite nice!

    Why not build Corporate Intranets? No streaming problems and no hardware limiting problems. We are too caught up about The Internet, clouds, little nodes everywhere. I compare the current thinking to when we moved from the litho press to the telegraph the same design ideas do not always carry over to the new communication platform.

    John Carmack needs to start working on teleportation and transhumanism.

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. Рік тому

      ... Except that perfect VR literally solves BOTH of those "problems" AUTOMATICALLY, ya absolute flipping dingus!... 🤦😑
      Who needs real-world physical teleportation when you have near 100% believable VR telepresence via VR?
      Who needs practical applications of transhumanism in physical reality when you can LITERALLY be whoever & whatever you want to as quickly and as many times as you want with absolutely ZERO physical consequences inside of a near 100% believable metaverse?
      The answer to both? = Basically nobody.
      Lol next time maybe actually think about what you're ACTUALLY trying to say for just that liiiiiittle bit longer before you post. Just a thought. 🤷
