  • Dr. Payam Akhavan, Professor of International Law and Senior Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto, Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, and Special Advisor to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
A materialistic consumerist culture has brought humankind to the brink of catastrophic climate change, unprecedented social inequality, and an expanding sense of alienation and despair. Dr. Akhavan will share how creating a culture of spirituality and service to humankind may be a matter of survival as we confront an uncertain future full of peril.

We may have been trapped at a root deep level by an obsolete consensus when scientists in the mid 1800's formulated the second law of thermodynamics which forbids free energy because thermal energy without a temperature difference is unavailable to "do work." If thermal energy without noticeable temperature difference could be converted into another form of energy such as mechanical energy or electrical energy then thermal energy would be reduced and a corresponding amount of electrical energy be produced and exported from the ambient heat of our planet's air or water anywhere, anytime, by anybody (though the conversion is easier during summer tropical days than during winter polar nights) This is sustainable because most uses of electricity return heat in balance with the cooling used to make the electricity in the first place; electricity and cooling are equally coproduced . this is thermal perpetual motion. This free energy device being developed with the working name "thermic array" would mean that material items become abundant cheap and clean with no fundamental greenhouse gas release so people don't have to endure slavery with suppressed self expression to raise above a subsistance standard of living. People can pay as they go for appliances of their choice that work out of the box. Air conditioners and refrigerators would produce electricity instead of consuming it. Abundance will not necessarily lead to ostentatious consumpttion.
Development needs crowdfunded grants of the magnitude of US$ 100K administered by sophisticated trustworthy people who would pay for nanofabricating prototypes. This is science so knowlege discovered by prototyping must be disclosed broadly and freely worldwide. Please reply to guide me in unpacking this further for you.
