- Today we're on the Chinese bullet train heading to Daye City 大冶市 in Hubei - but things do not go according to plan.
I can't blame the city too much - although I will say I looked the place up before going there and didn't see anything about what was actually going on

If you're into historic mines, I've been to Fushun, Liaoning province. There you'll find the largest open pit mine in Asia, possibly largest in the world. It's gigantic. People in Fushun told me, the mine, and others in the area, was the main reason why the Japanese invaded northeast China in 1931: they wanted its coal and minerals for themselves. What looks to me to be an enormous scar on the Earth is to the local people a source of pride (and income for many generations).
Yeah man the Japanese grab for Manchuria was definitely partly driven by the resources there. I hadn't heard of that bit pit though, I'll have to check it out if I ever head up that way! Thanks for the tip!
@@TwoCentsOnTour If you go, be sure to see the Lei Feng memorial. (He was a local hero who died young in an industrial accident and has since been elevated to model citizen. He's known throughout China. It's propaganda and omits important aspects of the story, but at the same time I'm unaware of any similar memorial to the common man, at least in the US.)
@@kidlatazul Ah yeah I still see posters of him all over the place. I've never been sure how much of what is said about him was true and how much was embellished. But if there's a memorial I'll definitely visit!
@@TwoCentsOnTour There's probably a fair amount of both truth and embellishment. And there are conspicuous omissions, like why common people were so desperate for food in the late 1950's. (But then, thematic museums in the US also tend to massage history to serve a purpose.)
The day I visited, as I was leaving, a tour bus pulled up and a number of well dressed people got off on their way to the memorial. My friend told me that those are bankers, they are required to visit the Lei Feng Memorial every year. I thought to myself, not a bad idea, to make bankers think about average people and the challenges they face. We should do that!
There's also a museum dedicated to amber in Fushun. Supposedly some of the finest in the world. Bring your wife, there's a gift shop!
Man getting bankers or other people in high ranking positions along is probably a great idea. I used to work in the High Court here in Auckland, and to say the judges there were out of touch with some of the poor people cases they were dealing with would be putting it mildly.
A gift shop eh? That might tempt her, but whatever the local delicacy is will probably tempt her more!
Surprised that you didn't do much research before jumping on the train to go there. Oh well, you live and learn. Nice to know there is a 3000-year-old mine near Wuhan.
Man I was really looking forward to it! I checked the website before going to make sure of the opening hours and it said it was open 😔
I did speak to some of the workers there and they said it would be finished a few months later - and that was last year - so it'll be open now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back, at least now I know the way 😅

Yes mate! A lot of people go to Shanghai or Beijing, but I wanted to see some smaller places. I have never been to the west of China, one day I would love to go 😁

why don't register your passport in the counter ? next time you can buy your ticket online and scan your passport like chinese do
Yeah mate next time I will try it. I think they only allowed that from November last year? I filmed this in April so I don't think it was available at the time
This is really disappointing. I’ve travelled quite a bit, have seen a lot of stuff, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a 3000yo mine yet.
I’d kinda like to see that. Especially since they have preserved historical tools, implements, etc. I couldn’t care less about the surroundings not being top notch. A mine’s a hole in the ground. What’s around it hardly matters, does it?
After seeing many videos, I’m starting to get the vibe, that there’s a lot of closed down time on museums and historical sites in China. Which is a massive bummer, if you’re a tourist.
A tourist site doesn’t have to be perfect, but if it’s closed, it’s as if it didn’t exist. Worse than that, actually. Because it teases a promise and then doesn’t deliver.

Yeah man I remember that feeling from when I first arrived in China in 2005 believe it or not... my Mandarin was rubbish, no smart phones.... I needed my hand held to get even basic stuff done

Haha cheers man yeah as far as a "worst" day goes it wasn't that bad ... Just a lot of travel time with no result.... In bloody hot weather.... I studied Mandarin for a few years at uni and the lived in China for about 7 years. I left China in 2014 so a bit rusty but enough to get by 😅

Thank you mate. To be honest, even if this was my worst trip, it wasn't TOO bad... nothing tragic happened... just a long trip for no real result. I still liked the place and the people, hopefully one day I can go back after the work is finished

Mark is nothing of the sort. This whole series about Wuhan has been really positive and really interesting with lots of people learning just how lovely China is and how friendly people are. You should actually watch these videos.

The intention wasn't to make a negative video, it was genuinely just a pretty crap day where I spent a fair bit of time and money for not much return. That's the story of the video, hence the title 😅

感觉我的回复又被吞了，一刷新就看不到我的回复了，不清楚是个啥情况。通知发布时间是去年九月十一号，从十月八号起暂停运营，恢复时间另行通知，差不多提前了一个月通知，落款是大冶市铜绿山古铜矿遗址保护管理委员会。视频里我看一些人已经穿上外套了，按湖北的天气应该是十月份了，不知道你去的时候是什么时间，如果是十月八号之前去的，那我向你道歉。
我是23年4月份去的，虽然那次闭馆了，下次如果有机会一定会去看看

The water they are spraying into the air is NOT safe to drink so what makes you think it's safe to inhale? The ignorance of people to believe that water being sprayed into the air is safe is shocking. That water is untreated and can make you ill but of course no one ever gets sick there.

@@joysun2015 yeah man it's really hard to predict. Thankfully UA-cam has a bunch of stats which can show if a video is doing well or not. Thankfully the stats on this one are good - even if there are a few loud people who dislike it, they're in the minority 😅
It appears to me about 2 decades ago when I was in Beijing, I faintly remember a metro ticket was also just 2Y, prob lesser can't remember much, I think it was a flat fare then regardless of distance. FF to today, the ticket price hasn't changed much, min is still about 2-3Yuan. Where as in Singapore, MRT (metro) and bus fares have been increasing every year!!! This makes me livid. So in terms of PPP, China is still more liveable than US or in my case, Singapore, even in the 1st tier cities! So outsiders can say much about the authoritarian ways of the Govt, at least they made an effort for basic necessities to remain very affordable for the average citizen there. That was how I felt when I was in China again not too long ago.
Bro I couldn't agree more. Here in Auckland it's $2.60 to travel the minimum distance on the bus service. If I want to travel more than a few stops it's going to increase the further I go.
That bus in Daye was ¥2 from the first to last stop - which is the same price as when I lived in China back in 2007!
@TwoCentsOnTour I live in Auckland too and public transport is awful and often dysfunctional. There seems to be no real desire for change from the powers that be either.
@@benrobinson375 yeah man sad but true. I know the scale is crazy different between China and NZ, but it's so expensive and unreliable here.... On this trip in China I think I took a taxi once? The bus/subway etc went everywhere and was cheap/reliable

China's system is more suitable for China than for the so-called democratic countries, and better for the people. We had worse luck than you. During National Day last year, I accompanied a Canadian to Nanjing for a week. We went to the Nanjing Museum and tried to buy tickets to enter on the spot. As a result, we were told that anyone would need to book a ticket online, but a small number of tickets would be available on site, though visitors would have to go to the on-site ticket window early to buy their tickets. So I tried to make an appointment online first, but found that the earliest appointment date was already after the National Day. So we went back the next morning, hoping to get tickets on site. Unexpectedly, we were told at the ticket window that the tickets were already sold out. We had to go to other places. As a result, we stayed in Nanjing for a week without entering the Nanjing Museum.
Oh man that's terrible luck! National Day is CRAZY - I was in Beijing for National Day one year and I promised myself I would never travel in China at that time again. I hope you at least found some other interesting spots to go!

The core issue is we are all racists and tend to adopt a superior complexe attitude towards other nationals. That's what I called prejudices, pride, arrogance and ignorance. We have to understand how important is the word "humility" towards mankind.
That's kind of topic might be a bit above my pay grade mate 😅 I'm just a guy who visited a town and had Plan A, Plan B and Plan C all fail - it was genuinely not a great day (although the people I bumped in to were very nice)

Haha yeah man I thought about that watching the video back.... Copper mine is what it was 😅... But yeah apparently this site was important as it was what supplied the military and some religious aspects (as they used bronze pots and whatnot)

That was very interesting. The bullet train was pretty impressive. The people seem very friendly everywhere you go. Why do they want your ID when you are buying a train ticket and then again when you are boarding the train ? Was Orwell Chinese... The one thing that I don't really like is the number of high-rise buildings and there is a lot of concrete. Shame that Bronze mine was closed, you should have checked out the Brass mine next door, sorry, couldn't resist...

I think the tickets are electronically linked to the ID cards, so instead of scanning tickets it's easier just to scan the ID. I've heard some other countries passports like US/UK can be scanned to board trains too in China, but I guess the NZ one hasn't been added to the system yet (they tried scanning it every time which implies some of them work!)
But yeah the copper mine (silly me) was a bummer ... On the flip side yeah the locals were very nice 😁

What a clickbait title. The video is way more positive as it is. China's HSR are shit: poor maintenance, overcrowding and very unsafe. You are not showing that.
