Amen. A summer without their beautiful sound would be bad

Cicadas are quite possibly the most tragic animals of all time, especially the periodical cicadas which don't reach adulthood for more than a decade, and once they do, they only have a few weeks left to live just to mate. During those weeks, they could easily get infected with parasites.

I'm scared to death of these things even though they're harmless. That noise gives me chills.

Great shots of an animal often heard but rarely seen, awesome job Andrew! I've been looking for a good shareable video to teach my friends about cicadas, I get lots of questions about them so now I can send people here! They are really fascinating insects, and the slow-mo shots of the cicada calling were amazing to watch. Can't wait for more!

I just moved right next to a woodsy area and the cicada sounds are impossible to ignore! I was getting annoyed by them lol but seeing the little critters just being bugs helps me appreciate them again.

I adore these little guys and couldn't imagine a summer without them either! There's also a very deep, almost humming/drumming bass noise that I'm familiar with that is very different and I've been curious as to which cicada makes this wondrous sound that seems to be everywhere at once. Am wondering if it's actually a periodical cicada.

I think it is because the way you describe it, it sounds like the video of a periodical calling I just watched

@@livestrong456 I was standing under a magnolia tree once and one of those guys was making this sound that fills the air and I just stood there and listened, it was almost like being in a cathedral of the outdoors.

Excited for the Great Eastern Brood next year, need to try and get out east to witness it. Really great footage of the nymphs climbing up the tree.

Great video and I learned something new. Yearly Cicadas are a thing. Makes sense biologically though. I've been fascinated by the correlation between Fibonacci numbers and length of time of some Cicada's arrival above ground to mate. Thanks!!!

Bob Perry I don’t know much about the mathematics behind cicada emergence but it’s an interesting topic! Interestingly, many annual cicadas still have a multi-year life cycle but they appear annually because their breeding is asynchronous!

That's not real there's no way a fly is that big and by the way I have never seen one

It’s not a fly and it’s enlarged for the thumbnail 😂
