    Hi Kimberly - Love your work on these customer success videos. Even though I have been with basecamp since the very early days I do find nuggets of gold in your videos. Would love to hear your thoughts on best practices around "message boards" and "docs & files" - - Here's a casual observation I'm seeing in how I'm sometimes running into work flow kinks.... Sometimes a message board starts out with the best of intentions and we use it just like it's designed to be used. Sometimes those messages turn themselves into a useful "document" - such as where a team adds screenshots and instructions on how to use an app. At that point, it would be super cool if you could turn a "message" in the message board into a document. Just a casual observation as I've been "copy/pasting" messages into a "document." My bet is this is something customers run into fairly often. Would be keen to see what 37signals thinks are best practices here. And, maybe this is a video you have already created!! - Great work Kimberly, and thank you!

      Hi Chris! Thanks for being a long-time Basecamp user. Love that! I polled some folks on the Basecamp team to get some opinions about messages vs. docs, in addition to my own. The consensus is that a document works best when you want to workshop something that might change or anticipate wanting to create something that can have updated versions. While both documents and messages can be edited and have a change log, documents have the ability to go back to previous versions and have more detailed versioning information, which works really well for making updates. Message Board is best when you want to make an announcement or pitch an idea that is fairly finalized, and the discussion around the message likely won't change the overall message content. We also see (and recommend) using messages and files in combination. Because message board posts are a bit more prominent, we love to see messages that hyperlink to further developed Basecamp documents. I hope that helps! -Kimberly

    I like to use recurring to-dos. Is there a way to not have the to-do immediately populate with the next one when you check it off? I want the list for that given week to disappear as I check it off. Not continue to repopulate with next week's recurring tasks.

    Really appreciate this video. I can't seem to find one particular feature: giving myself a to-do. Did I miss how to do this?

      You can absolutely assign yourself a to-do! It's as simple as selecting your own name in the "Assigned to" area of a to-do. You can assign yourself cards as well. Hope that helps! Reach out if you have any other questions. Our team is at support@basecamp.com. -Kimberly

    Are there any plans to make the to-dos interface more robust? For example, I'd love completion of a task to trigger a workflow. Or to auto-generate the date based on another task/scheduled event. And the ability to snooze a task to come back later.

    If I'm looking at my to do lists in board view - why can't I move them around? It's driving me completely crazy. All the least important lists are at the top and I can't move them. I don't want to make all the lists all over again.

    • @maivezonk
      @maivezonk 7 місяців тому

      I figured it out. They can be dragged, but you can't drag the right on top of the other card like I was doing. You have to get them into just the right spot. If you are using Light mode instead of Dark mode, it's impossible to see the tiny gray line so you just have to guess and keep trying. (Btw, I'm an accessibility specialist and that ain't accessible - avoid the old Apple style light gray on white like the plague, total violation of WCAG color contrast rules)

    Great stuff; Can we assign to a group?

    • @37signals
      @37signals  Рік тому +2

      You sure can! Just know that the to-do can only be checked off one time, so when one person in the group marks it complete, the to-do is complete for everyone. -Kimberly

      I’d like a limiter on who can check off a ToDo. If I assign it to person A, only myself or person A can check it off. Please.

    Is there a way to add bulk to dos? Wishing I could copy/paste lists of to dos (one per line).

    • @37signals
      @37signals  Рік тому

      Hey there! There isn't a way to import to-dos, but if the list is a recurring one, check out To-Do templates. 3.basecamp-help.com/article/66-templates#using-a-to-do-list-template. Hope that helps! -Kimberly

      @@37signals nah what I mean is a copy/paste feature that can detect line breaks and ask you if you’d like to create multiple tasks. So you don’t have to copy/paste one at a time.

    • @37signals
      @37signals  Рік тому +1

      Ah! There isn't a way to import directly into Basecamp, but check out Zapier. It just might have what you need. From a quick look, it seems like you can add to-dos from a spreadsheet. -Kimberly zapier.com/apps/basecamp3/integrations/excel
