I'm still annoyed that Jeff didn't throw the podium in the fire when he said it was not an imunity idol.
LMAO That would have been epic.
I mean, continuity is key. Jeff should know that.
Yo that would have been epic and hilarious
I'm more annoyed they didn't let him have that Idol play, it would have been an amazing moment
Yul's idol was the most powerful. Technically it was the same as Terry's but the difference is that both could be played at final 4 but Panama had a final 2 whereas Cook Islands a final 3. This meant that there was one round where Terry could be voted off and that is exactly what happened. Yul's idol was basically a guarantee to get to the final tribal.
Unless everyone had voted Yul earlier during the port-merge. Then he would have had to use it then and would be vulnerable afterward.
Peridiam I'm surprised you didnt end the video with "ITS A F*CKING STICK" lmaoooo
That is not... Just a stick anymore.
I would love for them to throw a season full of newbies for a loop by eliminating idols before a certain point (ex. no idols until the merge). Players would go crazy looking and second-guessing people who say they've found nothing.
If they were to do a twist like this, this is the way to do it. I hear the “no idols season!” Idea a lot and it honestly would take the game back to the Stone Age. The pre merge is pretty slow as is so keeping it strictly social to get to know the players could actually be a benefit.
I was thinking something similar: the idols could be found premerge, but will be inactive (powerless) until the merge. So looking for an idol premerge can give you a great advantage later but becames very risky since if you find one and the tribe learns that you did, you automatically became a target, with an idol that cannot save you at that stage.
i want them to give fake clues 💀
@@dovahkiin2259 OMG, I LOVE that idea!!

Mr Gary the Landscaper of course found the first ever idol!
That thing is definitely, by far, on the ground
And he was technically the first to find it without HAVING a clue not Russell.
What can you say, the man is an amazing landscaper. He knows all about groundwork and terrain 😄
@@landonweaver1040 Yeah he was. ;)
*super idol returns a decade later*
Probst: "This is totally Tyler Perry's original idea! Blame him!"
me: "oh yeah probably 3 different idols"
peridiam: "if you said three" :) "you're wrong" :(
Sandy being confused about paces is the funniest thing I have ever seen “Pace Gods, give me a sign”
Gary lowkey very underrated strategist. who knew this humble landscaper could have such a big brain.
hope to see him return
With all this idol talk, I’m really hoping we see an idol nullifier nullifier in season 41 🙄😂
Only sets up for the Idol Nullifier Nullifier Nullifier 😂
The next evolution of idols is using tokens to buy them
@Peter McGill but it’s not sold to you from a person. Because there won’t be an EOE. You could probably barter and trade idols with other people for tokens is probably what they’d do
Also love the conditional idol idea, “you must successfully vote out 3 players in order to give your idol power” can’t wait for survivor this fall
That wouldn't be fair since there could be split votes
What about the Selfless Idol that can only be played on someone else, offered to Dean on Island of the Idols? Also, I feel like Safety Without Power is worth mentioning in the same context as Legacy Advantage and 50/50 Coin.
Yep! It’s another variation that I didn’t bring up. I think the social idol from S40 is more so a conditional idol from S38, and the Dean one is its own thing, which leaves us at 12 variations thus far.
Peridiam, I absolutely fell in love with your channel. I've loved Survivor for so long, and when I found your channel, my love has omly grown at exponential pace! Everytime you come out with a video, I hope for more, and go through all your videos knowing I have already binged all of them! Keep up with everything you've been doing, we love it!
People often to me underestimate Amanda’s idol play was, she booted one of the other strongest females and immediately jumped back in a top 3 alliance, after becoming an even bigger threat (why they were voting her that council). That doesn’t happen. She should have mentioned how she had came up with some manipulation tactics used by the alliance and how she overcame having her two biggest allies voted out and evacuated and fought against people always mentioning her name. She even manipulated Erik to turn on Natalie after she BOOTED ALEXIS, one of the few people Erik could trust.
would like to have a season just like season 1-10 no idols , no advantages just to see how modern contestants would react to it.
“How Many Different Types Of Idols Do You Think There Is?”
*way to fricken many*
Peridiam: 12- yep you heard me right- 12
*ohh so I was right*
I think the fire tokens will evolve the way the idols did. There’s a learning curve for every twist.
Ya the conditional idol sounds like it has tons of potential from a game theory perspective, even just because there's basically endless possibilities for interesting conditions.
One fun concept from other kinds of games is the Faustian Bargain or "Deal with the Devil". Kinda like the Daedric quests in Elder Scrolls, playing a Warlock in DnD, or making a deal with a hag in basically any game/narrative. Essentially offer great reward but only if the player turns to the dark side in some way. A simple example would be the idol activates only if the player betrays a trusted ally. That one is probably always a sucker play, but there could be more nuanced conditions that could really start to dive down the game theory rabbit hole.
Putting players in a position to make extremely difficult, often heartbreaking decisions for some powerful or game saving advantage is an important part of a game masters job to keep the game challenging, fun, and most importantly deliciously chaotic
I've never been so excited for a Peridiam video. Idols are probably the one topic in Survivor that I think the most about, but they are also the one thing that has the most flaws (or perhaps, most room for improvement, imo). Haven't watched the vid yet but am looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Hey Peridiam, Will u get back to the player archetype kinda videos.... The Mafioso one was really good.
Peridiam: how many variations of the idol have there been?
Me *discouraged*: idk 12?
Peridiam: if you said 12, you would be correct.
Me: im psychic
Just recently discovered your channel, and loving all these deep dives into the details of Survivor. Great job!
The “safety without power” twist could also be considered an idol
@@AndrewSmith-pn2qc so was the 50/50 but that got an honorable mention
@@AndrewSmith-pn2qc I know they’re not idols but if legacy and 50/50 got honorable mentions then safety without powers should have been an honorable mention
I guessed there were 10 different types of immunity idols, honestly surprised how close I got
Which ones did you forget? I guessed 10 too, and just forgot the EOE and One World ones.
@@oldaccount6297 I remembered EOE, but I mostly just made an educated guess based on the absurd amount of different kinds of idols and happened to be close
Another thing, the idols in seasons 12-13 could be played at the final 4. Terry was a unanimous vote at that final 4 tribal had he not had it, and ozzy may have been able to convince sundra to vote for yul at the final 4 and tie the vote, except yul had his super idol and would’ve just gotten sundra out in a 2-0 vote. Both of these players got to the final 3 worry free because of this final 4 super idol. Although I’m positive yul would’ve beat sundra at fire anyway, but u know
14:25 THAT KILLED ME BIIIIIIIIG TIME HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA good lord. She got bomboooozllleeed
I’d love to see a “redirection” idol : transferable, and used used after votes are cast but before they’re read. It redirects all votes cast against that player to the player one seat to either side. An alliance could vote out its own leader just by having that person sitting in the wrong seat.
That wouldn't work because producers tell contestants where to sit, they can't seat whatever they want
Has Peridiam ever done a "Best Players To Never Win" video? Obviously pretty subjective but I have a list and wonder how it compares.
I hope to see a Half-Power Idol.....that could nullify 50% of the votes casted at Tribal
sandra going home IS SO PAINFUL TO WATCH :
i never watched any episode of this show but this got me laughing so hard i REALLY have to watch it for these fuckups
Great history lesson about the greatest twist that Survivor has ever done! I hope that they never get rid of it! I think that the regular idol is the best one, but the idol that is in two pieces that you have to give to another person is very cool as well. Nice job man!
Watching Guatemala I loved Gary and hated Judd, so watching that whole sequence of events was so much fun.
YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEW VID
I legit just randomly estimated 12 thinking I would be way off and gasped when you actually said 12!
Haha yes me too! I was like “uhh I dunno 12” and literally had to repeat the part of the video because I couldn’t believe they actually said 12 lol
I would like to argue that there is actually 2 more variants you've forgotten (technically this is more of 2 variants, but I think it's worth mentioning). You have single use idols, idols that once played are lost forever, and returning idols, that get re-planted once they are played (and sometimes when someone gets voted out with it in their pocket). I feel like this is relevant as it does change the strategy behind playing it.
I love your videos omgggggg.
How about a idol that is useless until the condition is meet.
The condition is they must lose the next Immunity challenge after its found.
So do you take the risk of losing the challenge and getting a threat voted out, a Ally voted out, play it wrong a get voted out yourself or win the challenge but loss the idol.
I like the idol's that have shot clocks (but they have to be longer than 1 day or just THAT tribal). Makes it more strategic.
*Shot

Southern Shrimp and Grits
2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 cups 2% milk
1/3 cup butter, cubed
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3/4 cup uncooked old-fashioned grits
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
SHRIMP:
8 thick-sliced bacon strips, chopped
1 pound uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon Cajun or blackened seasoning
4 green onions, chopped
In a large saucepan, bring the broth, milk, butter, salt and pepper to a boil. Slowly stir in grits. Reduce heat. Cover and cook for 12-14 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Stir in cheese until melted. Set aside and keep warm.
In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove to paper towels with a slotted spoon; drain, reserving 4 teaspoons drippings. Saute the shrimp, garlic and seasoning in drippings until shrimp turn pink. Serve with grits and sprinkle with onions.
The goat can’t wait for survivor to come back
@Peridiam what about the fake idol? (Specifically the one in Ghost Island)
My guess for how many idols: 8.
The original "play before the vote" idol (Guatemala)
God Idol That expires at 4
God idol that expires at 5 (does this count separately?)
The play after the vote normal idol
Koah Rong Super Idol (combine 2)
"give one half to another person" idol
Expiring idols from some modern seasons
One world "give it to the other tribe" idol (probably doesn't count?)
Bonus: Jeremy's safety without power (does that count?)
Bonus 2: Legacy Advantage (does THIS count?)
Bonus 3: 50/50 coin (does THIS count?)
Edit: Well 12 is a lot. Peridiam went into a LOT more detail hahaha.
Ok big paragraph below. You’ve been warned
I like the idea you mentioned if possibly having to activate idols with fire tokens. Then that begs the question how would fire tokens work without the edge because there is now nothing to trade them for and no reason to sell idols since you would still be in the game if you had one. My proposition is a debuff system. You can find things to hinder players (like the extortion) and give them anonymously to others and buy idols instead of finding them with the things you found
Gosh I was thinking 3 or 4 (counting maybe the Tyler Perry Idol)
Wow, I didn’t know how deep the variations are considered.
I like the idea of a “lose your vote” shot clock idol, i.e. you can keep the idol as long as you want but you lose your vote every tribal that you keep the idol.
i guessed 11-13 idols so when you said 12 i was pretty surprised lol
Very Tony-like to get a super idol and somehow make it scarier than it already is
I was going to guess that there we're 6 types of hidden immunity idols
Adam may be a pioneer in where the next immunity idol will be located.....in Tribal Council!
I feel like they're not going to do that now, because everyone will be thinking it. Adam ruined the surprise so to speak.
Ghost Island 2. Just wait.
*laughs in Survivor South Africa*
@@aldrensiscar3988 Adam likely watched South Africa himself, and that's why he thought of it.
@@roger_towny_jr he did. There are videos explaining why he did that.

And now there's one more, the three way idol
Literally guessed 14 so close to the 12
If the future brings idols that can be bought for fire tokens I hope they're smart enough to make them non-transferable.
And then 41 instantly added a new idol. The beware idol
Okay, I think I'm watching too much Survivor content. I just watched a similar video on the Once Upon An Island Channel 😂
Dope idea 🔥
Is there an Immunity Necklace Idol Nullifier? That'd be amazing
gosh...i guessed correctly. instant goosebumps
You can make the case that the legacy advantage is a type of idol. It does the same thing, and is played at the same time.
Winners at War was a conditional idol
6:40 to be fair my pace would lead me about 10ft away further than some friends of mine
Shoutout to Cao Boi
Tony’s super idol also only lasted til final 5 instead of final 4 like the ones before it
That’s not what Tony said😂
I love me some successful immunity idol plays
There was a small boost to the Regular Immunity Idol in Survivor Game Changers... Where an even split vote could not be used to flush out an Idol. Not a difference to the actual Idol itself but would increase the power.
Havent watched but hope this is about the design be ause they need a revamp. No more shells on strings
Ikr, they’ve looked kind of lame seasons 37-39
I would give peridiam half of my idol any day 😬
You should do advantage and disadvantage variants
You forgot the idol nullifier. I think that counts as a variation to idol play, pulled off well in David vs Goliath
This aged well, given the kinda-conditional idol with the silly phrases in 41
Hi Peridiam, Can you talk about different Exile Islands or Rank it.
Or rank the designs of Immunity Necklaces
Peridiam the 🐐
With the S40 half idols, any 2 halves could be combined, so had Sophie kept Kim’s then Sarah found the idol Sophie’d have a full one.
i like your videos :)
And there’s also the idol from Australian Survivor that’s found by someone on one tribe, but can only be played by someone on the other tribe.
One World did that first.
Honorable mention: Malcoms idol that he made and had to look pretty real
4:22 why would he stick his tongue out man
Survivor fans make sure to check out Amazon's Wheel of Time adaptation when it comes out! Rafe (1:35) is the showrunner!!
Can we please see a video of the top 10 sore losers?
Idol nullifiers should evolve to be 50/50 coin flips
first!! i love your videos!
idea: an idol-type thing where you can pay any amount of fire tokens when using it, and each fire token negates exactly one vote
Can you do a video on the history of emotional players? Definitely not asking for this because my mom is one of them.

"for some its difficult to watch the show without it (the idol"-yea I can attest to that. Watching first season of New Zealand survivor, it felt soooooo dull and predictable with the boot order. took me awhile to realize "wait, theres no idols? wtf, this isnt even fun anymore"
Exactly it bothers me when people are wishing for seasons without idols or with a ridiculously small amount.
Ya forgot one. Dean chose the idol nullifier but he had the choice to get an idol that must be played on someone else. Safety w/o power is essentially the pre vote idol just missin the vote
I would like a return to only a couple idols a season
i would like to see 1 exchange of food for 1 idol
What if the idol only powers up if you vote for the minority twice
I never knew that Nicaragua had a limited-time idol (I thought GI was the first) and the original superidols cannot be passed around during Trial Council (although can you use it for someone else).
Nicaragua *didn't* have a limited-time idol. Both expired (and were played) at final 6, which was the standard expiration point at the time.
@@bwburke94 What season was the one he said had a limited-time preventive idol?
@@zjzr08 Micronesia, Gabon, and (probably) Tocantins.

I still believe there should be a season without hidden immunity idols and advantages in the modern age. The twist is they don’t tell any of the contestants so they all believe there’s still idols and advantages. Paranoia at its finest.
And what about Island of the Idols and potential Dean's immunity which could be used only for another player
Shouldn't u differentiate between the final 6 idol and final 5 idol
I would consider the legacy advantage from game changers and ghost island an idol
10:53
also, weren't the votes 4-2-2 (Scot-Tai-Aubry)?
since Aubry was in a good position, if Tai paired the idols to save Scot, Tai would 100% get the votes on the revote with Aubry...
so I don't understand why in Ghost Island it was labelled "a betrayal" when Tai just basically didn't save Scot so he can save himself 🤷♂️
I mean, yeah Tai "betrayed" Scot and Jason by voting for Scot at that tribal council, but Tai "not-combining-and-playing-the-idol-with-Scot" was explicitly billed as "the betrayal" in the Ghost Island scene with Donathan... just sayin'
Yeah I always questioned that....I watched that scene recently...
