    Good for you you started to talk to your dad. You won’t have to live with regrets and unanswered questions. You will get mad at him again but don’t let him push you away or push him away. Love the parts of him that are hard to love; those are the parts of you you find hard to love but are worthy of love too. Nobody is perfect and without flaws.

    A very similar story to my own family history; my grandma was born in Indonesia, a while back when her husband died, we found some old letters and document from her parents. I was able to trace back some records from previous generations because they were also in KNIL, and interned in camps by the Japanese. Ultimately we found out my family originated in the Netherlands, then emigrated to Indonesia, and possibly ran a plantation. Then after WW2 my great-grandparents moved back to the Netherlands as refugees from the Indonesian Independence wars
