Arctic Monkeys is definitely one of my favorite bands ever! I listened to them all the time before I got into Bass Singing. Love his Sheffield accent so much! Arctic Monkeys always changes their music style with every album and every single style of them is so unique!

For just about any performer at this level, regardless of genre or style, it's exceptionally rare for me to have anything worse to say than "they're not my taste". Even when I don't like them, there's still a reason they managed to make it so big.
the issue is that people usually mistake what's good or bad with what they like or dislike..and in reality there is not relation between those 2 concepts.

I'll guarantee that x person's favorite band or artist their producer uses autotune or melodyne where needed. And they also do this thing where they make you sing the line like 50 times, and pick the one that sounds best, and then cut them together to make a track. The fact is he sounds damn near identical singing live as he does on the studio, not super common in this genre. Muse is another example where Matt Bellamy sounds just about as good as he does on a studio track. One of the reasons Muse has one of the best regarded live shows currently in music right now. The visual effects on top of his amazing range and power.
yes, i've been waiting for an arctic monkeys reaction for ages. his rhytmic singing style was there from the begining, he listened mostly rap music when he was a kid. and yes, he was pitchy in the first years, but he was still a teenager when they recorded the first album. i listen to them since i was about 14-15, when i started to learn english, and thanks to them i learned a lot of worlds with sheffield accent. so my english is a mixture of hungarian and sheffield accents. i hope someday you'll analyze julian casablancas too.
alex turner is the coolest dude in rock! i had the pleasure to see last shadow puppets... blown awaaaaay by the musicality AND the coolness. meybe you could do "age of the understatment" by them? :)
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s definitely my cup of tea. Alex’s voice is so smooth and sexy and comforting and idk familiar that just gives me that peaceful easy feeling. I love him so so much. And I also must say how I absolutely adore how both their voices (Matt and Alex) do so well together, it’s just amazing. Arctic Monkeys is a remarkable band with great musical quality and lyrics. Can’t wait for their new album to come out.

I just love Arctic Monkeys and had the opportunity to see them live recently and I couldn't believe how many brilliant tunes they sang one after another. It was one of the most interactive live performances I have been to as everyone was having fun singing along. The performance from Alex and the band was clinical. Love it that he sings with his accent and think we should cherish different accents not judge them.
The thing about this song that I don’t see anyone ever mention is how he smashes the standard conventions of when the sentences are supposed to end/begin. If you’d divide the song into bars his sentences end way too late or start too early and there are these little runs mixed in, but it works well and messes with your expectation in a great way.

Ahhhh i love this group, they were a staple of my 2014. great song. I think people saying that he can't sing because he's a lil bit pitchy (Roomie anyone?! :D ) is absolutely nuts. Music has never been about being perfect, especially not in the rock genre. The amount of artists out there, the majority infact use Autotune (or Melodyne, whatever) on their studio releases. A lot of the time, they pick and choose out of say 500 takes which line was best in each take. Some artists hide this by layering their vocals on top of one another. In live performances your voice can vary over different parts of a tour... when you're singing before a crowd of thousands or tens of thousands and you're playing 20 different songs 4-5 times a week... shit happens. You can have a cold, the temperature and humidity can even make a difference. Take Marilyn Manson, no one will ever accuse him of being a vocalist on the level of Whitney Houston, in live performances he's all over the place, but he makes absolutely amazing, thought provoking music, because of as you put it, his emotiveness.

The poetry out of this guy has always blown me away. He could sound like Jonathan Ross and I'd want to listen to him sing his lyrics. The fact that he's a reasonably good singer with a unique sound that keeps his accent up-front puts Alex Turner WAY up the list of what makes the band he fronts fantastic.

I believe that the nuances you're detecting about Alex's accent are rooted in that he had changed his accent quite a bit at this point. Living in USA since the recording of Humbug morphed his way of talking compared to his natural Sheffield accent, and it's noticeable if you listen interviews from that era. Liam Gallagher famously mocked Alex because of this.
