I remember my dad would always sing this song in karaoke with a bunch of his old uncle friends and they would sound soooo off-tune I wanted to rip my ears off. Good times.
I watched the movies when I was 3-5 years old. Those movies were great, and inspired me to be a better person. I come back here every once in a while to have a good time, and remember what kind of man I should strive to become.
I may be born a foreigner but my heart has always been Asian and would never do anything to hurt the culture or people that shared their arts with me.. I uphold and honor that and give credit to where it's due please let me know how you feel on the question I asked and I thank you for your time.. Thank you for taking the time to read this..
This song transcends nationality/ethnicity and expresses the ideals of those who conduct themselves with great purpose. If only more people would conduct themselves in a character within the context of this song (in absence of political motives) we might have a better society.
I’m Jamaican mix and This Song has been a part of me since I was about 7 years old. The first time I saw “Once upon a time in china” I wanted to be just like Jet Li!🤣🤣🤣
Haha I remember how all the boys keep singing this song when I was back in elementary school. It. Was. Epic. I bet 20 years from now it'll still be awesome.
As a translator, this is by far the best translation I have ever came across for this song. You have a lot of ridiculous translations like Mr. Strongman, or Man should be of Self Help, whoever translated this is good at what they do, and I commend it highly.
I remember the movie using "my blood is boiling" at one part of this song. would the translation here be more accurate? I just thought the "my blood is boiling" part was freaking epic and it sent shivers down my spine :) thank you for the upload. I'll start listening to this more frequently and adhering to the message it's giving.
People like the feeling of nostalgia from remembering good times right? Well, the good times for the U.S. would be during WWII. They were the last to enter the war, their economy was good, they made lots of money and were able to show off how powerful they were to the world. After that, everything pretty much went downhill after the Cold War and into the Vietnam war that ended in failure.
wow, respect!! thats awesome, i would never have the bone to do that. i would stop somewhere in the middle of it. i wish you all the will power and courage to pull it through.
Man I watched once upon a time in china all the series to 6 it was beautiful and sad because I don’t think there making more films becuase the actors of the characters probably retired or passed away but I watched this when I was in third grade and it is emotional for the series to end but we can agree the lion dance parts are the best
To all others & Chinese on this wall posting: With all due love & respect, I trained in Chinese kung fu and loved my sifu very much, he was like a father to me when I gained his trust.. There are many of us that are foreigners I happen to be Hispanic that fell in love with Chinese Kung fu since the age of 5 and began training in it.. By your comment my heart was a bit troubled as I would never think of doing anything to shame the Chinese Martial Arts and the culture it comes from. Continued
@SpiritWanderer91 good job . its the same character with multiple meanings . but in this case 做好汉 in said sentence in my option means" be a good man" 汉子 and 男儿 both mean "man" through out the song
@ricefarmer - you're so right about the superiority of chinese fight choreography over US movies. They have to shake the camera around so hard to hide the low quality. They think the shaking "makes it look cool" or "gives a frenetic feel to the action" but i'm not fooled. The kung fu in even the dumbest martial arts movie is often breathtaking.
@chillwill120 As an American I must protest your opinion. I truly wish to be a hero, with all my heart. Please remember that there are 350 million of us. We are made up of the world's smorgasbord of cultures and sometimes, though very rarely, we can exemplify the best of humanity. Please give us a chance to show you.
@DestAeval - d canto words sound like "opening heaven and forcing the earth". U wld need 2 see d actual chinese characters to determine the correct translation. If what I heard is right, then it shld be "to conquer heaven and earth". But on d whole, an excellent translation.
Its great then you give us Also explanation of metaphors and comparisons. Raw translate sometimes don't make sanse for westerns without explanation. Thanks.
@Hero32388 - well put! Your ideal of a "society in which everyone is noble" is common in fictional literature.Think of Tolkien's Riders of Rohan and Elvish races, of Lucas Jedi Knights, of Clancy's morally faultless soldiers and sailors, .A real example that comes close is the stirring accounts of the Japanese people following the tsunami: looting was nearly unheard of, and most fascinating was a story of a store running out of water. Instead of acting out, the line of people quietly dispersed.
this video is 11 yrs old...and I will continue to come back to it. The lyrics are the stuff of legends!
I remember my dad would always sing this song in karaoke with a bunch of his old uncle friends and they would sound soooo off-tune I wanted to rip my ears off. Good times.
