My wife and I had no idea these baths were still there when we were last in Rome! They are #1 on our list next visit. Just beautiful.
You will love the new entrance (next to the church in Piazza della Repubblica. Be sure to cross the street to the related Palazzo Massimo museum. We have videos on these museums and more in our playlist of Rome museums.
Very nice overview and explanation of the structure today, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
You saw Gladiator II? I hope it wasn't too painful for you to sit through all those historical inaccuracies.
Not a problem. It was all about being entertained. We will roll out a video on our thoughts on the film.
We essentially stumbled on to this over Easter Monday, mostly to escape the rain, but we loved visiting the entire complex.
A wonderful complex - museum site and churches spread throughout the urban fabric of hectic Rome by the train station. With the new sidewalks and clean up it will be much easier to discover!
Great production.
Much appreciated!
Really like this dissertations.
Thank you.
Thanks for the video!
You bet!
Wonderful video!
Thank you.
Must see this next time I am in Rome
A tranquil space and rich collection
One wonders if the grandiosity of Diocletian's Bath was a national morale booster for a slowly declining empire...
It definitely was a declaration that the city was still a protagonist in the eyes of the Tetrarchs!
Gentile sig. Arya, per favore corregga la traduzione automatica in Italiano. Il video di per sé sarebbe interessante, ma la traduzione italiana è veramente uno strazio!
MI dispiace- speriamo che GOOGLE si migliora presto!
Can we assume when we see a bare exterior brick wall on ancient Roman imperial buildings like this that they would have been clad in marble? Or stucko? What would the exterior have looked like?
Exteriors were generally frescoed or stuccoed. Easy to tell if they had marble cladding from the holes for the metal clamps.
