Yuki Yuna is a Hero: Chapter of Washio Sumi (結城友奈は勇者である: 鷲尾すみの章 Yuki Yuna wa Yuusha de aru: Washio Sumi no Shou) is the newest edition to the franchise. It will be the official animation of the novel and has been separated into 3 movies (Friends, Spirit, and Promise), and will then air as a television show. Significant differences will be seen between the animation and the book, and the movies will be slightly different then the anime.

The moment I discovered the song, I was like "Holy Shit" The tone fits the animation sequences so well

Actually, i guess it's for Hero's chapter
But i still want to see thousands spears Mankai in action
It's probably because of three reasons:
1. Sonoko (and Wakaba)'s namesake is the former governor-general of Taiwan Count Maresuke Nogi, the general of the Imperial Japanese Army who began his military career during the Satsuma Rebellion and lost the 14th Infantry Regiment's banner to the enemy (which was considered to be the emperor's property), took back Port Arthur from the Russians (after originally seizing it from the Chinese in 1894 before the IJA faced strong resistance and fortifications from the Imperial Russian Army ten years later before its capture in 1904 during the Russo-Japanese War) and tried to commit suicide to atone for his military failures and casualties that were caused under his leadership (Emperor Meiji refused this request and told the Count to stay alive until after his death on July 30th, 1912, Nogi and his wife committed ritual suicide within their own home on September 13th).
Following the Count's death he became revered as a kami under State Shinto and a shrine was built on the site of his house in what is now called the Nogizaka district of Minato Ward in Tokyo. If I'm not mistaken when I visited Nogizaka myself I learned the shrine museum was only open one day a year and I had arrived several days late. He also has a shrine dedicated to him in Kyoto where Emperor Meiji's mausoleum is located and in Tochigi, Yamaguchi and Saitama prefectures.
2. When highlighted by the lotus flower in the background, the ship looks like a Buddhist dharma wheel (which in turn looks like a ship's wheel). Sonoko's Mankai and eventual ascension to becoming a god through the offering of her body/somatic functions via Sange is symbolic of her enlightenment. You can also argue that she's following the Eightfold Path during her battle/sacrifice as well (right view, right resolve, right speech, right conduct, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samadhi, or 'meditative absorption or union'). Which makes it considerably ironic that after she is incapacitated and enshrined from going Mankai 20 times, she ends up losing those attributes while mourning Gin and yearning for Wasshi to return to her or at least to know with certainty that she was alive and her efforts to save her weren't for nothing.
3. Less serious answer, Sonocchi is the ultimate shipper on deck who loves to ship her friends and herself. So its perfect for her to have a battleship Mankai. :P
As much as I thought that 24th Century UBW was fucking cool as shit in the LN, I'm happy for this change in the anime. Karin can have the glory of infinite swords instead lol.

Eevee- Sama Definitely not. I ship SonokoxTogo over YunaxTogo any day,, as I believe if Togo had kept her memories, she would have never fallen for Yuna and would have ended up with Sonoko. And well... ending such a great relationship via something as cheap as amnesia, ESPECIALLY when it was removed... seems like a cop out. YunaxKarin for me.
I mean, part of me still ships YunaXTogo because I love their chemistry, but SonokoXTogo just fits so well and it always makes me cry.
Eevee- Sama Yeah. I mean YunaxTogo is technically the original ship, but I really do like her better with Karin, at least romantically. It’s to Yuna first that she softens up, it’s Yuna she protects by going Mankai five times in a row, it’s Yuna she tries so hard to get to open up about her problems in Hero Chapter. Not Togo. In the same vein, it’s Sonoko who got Togo to lighten up, Sonoko who told her what the outside work was really like in an attempt to save her from ending up like her, Sonoko who went Mankai TWENTY F-ING TIMES to save her from the Vertexes. Not Yuna. They’re all good friends, but those acts outline what I believe is actual love.
I know right! All of my friends ship Gin with Sonoko, Yuna with Togo, and Karin with Fuu. I just don't like it! I mean, Karin confessed her love to Yuna in the hero chapter! I was shouting "KISS ALREADY!" the entire time xD
How the heck do gin and sonoko become a SHIP I mean that’s messed up.
