Great help for someone new to PM (the cheaper version!) Thank you and have a fantastic Christmas.
Nailed it with the "UNDER PRESSURE" comment....PM to ingest and then transfer selects to lightroom as PM is so much FASTER!!!!
Well done, Jeff. Never thought of auto-ingesting. So far I've been a friend of ingesting selected only, or in other words: culling before ingesting. Got to think about this one a little further.
Culling before ingesting is defeating the purpose. Cull in PM. That what it’s for! It is faster and less error prone to stop-ingest then cull.
I orginally done it the way Jeff showed in this video. Now I prefer to ingest from selection. The reason I do it this way is because I never went back and deleted the duds.
@@allrightsstarsc404 Ingesting from selection is slower than auto-ingesting. Deleting the duds is 3 keystrokes.
@@jeffvoganphotography I do cull in PM. But I use "from Selection" instead of "Disks" or "Folders". That takes care of the duds automatically. But I guess that then the auto-ingest does not work the way you are suggesting to do it. Got to experiment further.
@@sergedaleiden5597 auto-ingest starts the process as soon as it detects a card versus you opening a folder then culling. the actually ingest process is the same. It is really just a change in the order you do things.
A very valuable and much appreciated video hint. A real time-saver. It appears the keyboard shortcut to bring up the Ingest dialog in Photo Mechanic Plus on a Mac has changed. It's CMD+G on my system.
I don't think that the shortcut changed. I have been using that shortcut for as long as I can remember.
This system at this stage doesn't work for z6 ingesting via USB type C cable. It does some funky stuff importing only a few of the photos and then only importing those photos again after deleting all folders and formatting memory card and reshooting some test photos. Very weird but I do not use a card reader because they are wildly expensive for the XQD cards. A cable is not. So copy from folder to folder it is.
I am glad it is helpful to you. I remember how I used to do things when I first started and hope to help people avoid the same frustrations.
Thank you! Sent you an email with an idea for a video for non-photographers (bloggers, writers) who want to use Photo Mechanic Plus
Huge help mate really appreciate it! Something to note for new versions of photo mechanic is the default delimiter character is = NOT \ so when adding the new text file be sure to check what character is selected in the bottom left before hitting ok.
Yes, the default delimiting character used to be / on a Mac. Camera Bits changed it to = a few years ago when they saw my workflow and how I used variables to create subfolders. The / caused issues so I changed the delimiting character to = and it worked fine. When I showed that to Camera Bits, they changed it going forward.
