Ahh man this is so upsetting. Phil loved his mum so much
People talk bad about Phil but he loved his mum and look how he looked after her. Taking her tray of tea and biscuits to bed. How many men do that for their mum. I know the Mitchell’s in a lot of ways are based on the krays and in the east end the mother is the head of the family but nice one Phil.
I think that’s why Dame Barbara could make so much out of the role. She knew the Krays back in the day, used to knock about with them a bit. Probably knew Violet Kray, as she had a one night stand with Reggie and an affair with their elder brother, Charlie. She knew women like Peggy, knew how to handle them, warts and all.
Most English people move away from their parents soon as they reach adulthood or secure a £30k+ salary. And rarely check up on their elderly parents.
If English old age parents are mo longer able to live independently and need round the clock care, their kids will send them to a care home, where nurses and social care professionals look after the old aged parents.
So, Phil is at least was close to his mum by choice and set up his life based on being near to his mum. Even though, Peggy was a lethal, ruthless and independent woman, who did not let aging years get the best of her... Phil loved Peggy too much and always felt responsible to be supportive of her!

I've been watching the old eastenders episodes on the drama channel almost every day and the list of characters who have passed since those days (both on and off screen) is massive. No disrespect to the newer cast members or to the few iconic ones who stayed on but in my opinion too much of what made that show great has been lost and Eastenders can never be the show it once was.
Although to be honest I've got a bit of a nerve because I have not watched the show for around fifteen years. Things move on, in life and in soap world but there was a time when the writing and the characters were so good that Eastenders was unmissable. The perfect combination of drama and light hearted humour made that show but without Peggy, Pat, Dot, Frank and others it just is not the same. At least we have tv channels like Drama and UA-cam which show the older episodes.

No. Her and the producers conducted this storyline so she could go out awesomely. She had already been diagnosed with dementia at this time and this storyline was her whole goodbye. Bless her.
@@CuppaTeaT.V. oh damn i never knew that. I don't watch soaps but that is quite nice how they fit the storyline to her circunstances as she was an important character, some shows would go with just writing her out through something like "she moved somewhere else"
