I think it was always implied that Genie was the merchant at the beginning, based on the fact he specifically states that the young man owned that lamp, based on pulling out things from nowhere, and probably based on several other things.
It was always implied, the point is that it was originally planned that they would explicitly reveal it to be the case in the movie, which they didn't, but they also didn't take out any of the similarities the merchant had to signal he was the genie, so it isn't wrong to say he's the genie but it's also ok to not have picked up on that or just not think it is

Um, Actually being a state alchemist is not what enables Ed to transmute without a circle. In fact he does use a circle. His circle is formed when he claps his hands together forming a circle with his torso and his arms.
When I heard that statement I was initially convinced that was the thing they were going for. It wasn't until the final few words that I realized they just goofed on that one.
3PO refers to "human-cyborg relations" because he's specialized specifically in communications between humanoids/cyborgs. Contrast this with forms of communications unique to other forms of intelligence, like droids, plants, or rocks. Yeah, plants and rocks can be intelligent in the Star Wars universe too.
I found the whole "DEU" Dropout Extended Universe during the pandemic. I love it so much. I've probably watched every Um Actually at least 3 times. Keep up the great work and thanks for the Content!
Um, actually he does use a transmutation circle, he does a clap and when his hands touch it creates a circle if you're looking at him from top-down perspective. I think they addressed that at some point didn't they?
Technically true (the best kind!), but is that truly considered the same as an actual transmutation circle? It's been awhile since I've watched it, I don't remember for sure.
That is technically correct, but there are several scenes and manga panels when Ed casts multiple transmutations after only clapping once, leading some to question the legitimacy of the line that says that.
Also, Um, Actually, Alphonse can *also* do Alchemy without a drawn circle, he'd just repressed the memories of the Gate, so he'd lost the ability. He regains it later in the manga / Brotherhood
Um, Actually...(and I'm sure someone has already brought this up) Return of the Living Dead (1985) had fast-moving zombies as well. In a footrace though, I'd put any of the 28 Days Later zombies against either Return of the Living Dead or the Snyder version of Dawn of the Dead.
It's funny, because I hadn't even considered Smeargle the Pokemon when I drew it, I just wanted to draw the most decrepit thing I could while including the most callbacks possible. Trapp just managed to find a connection!
Trapp is a year younger than me (technically, he's 359 days younger than me), so he was 10 when Pokémania took the world by storm and would definitely know Gen II Pokémon. Especially because he does voices for the Dorkly Pokémon videos.
Once again, I don't believe anyone's ever gotten a Sp'el Ling Bi question right a single time in any episode. They've gotta either make them easier or give the point to the closest match
I agree it’d be cool to have the closest answer win, but I feel like they’d have to explain how they measured “closeness.” They’d probably used Levenshtein Distance, and I feel like unnecessarily complicated to explain to the audience of a comedy game show.

This applies to Edward because he frequently needs to be restrained or reprimanded by Alphonse or someone else present, since Edward has little respect for authority figures.
You're right. I knew that Ed clapping his hands replaced the need to draw a circle, but I never thought much about it. I just accepted it as an aspect of the magic system that only he could figure out. However, the arms and hands form a "circle" when the hands clap. Fast moving zombies do seem like more of a threat but with slow moving zombies it is often the sheer number of them. Dead Rising has slow zombies who by themselves barely pose a threat but if you are surrounded without a good weapon, you're toast.
Um, Actually (2 years too late for it to matter) Return of the Living Dead introduced running undead back in 1985! It also introduced the concept of the undead specifically wanting to eat brains because they can feel themselves rotting and eating brains alleviates the pain, and we know this because they can also talk and one said so! My favourite line in the movie? After mobbing and eating a group of arriving paramedics, and undead using the CB radio to say "Send... more... paramedics". Hilarious. Nightmare City, 1980, had "Zombie" like irradiated ghouls which ran, but I'm not counting them because they aren't undead. Also, zombies are people brought back from the dead to be slaves, which means that the undead in Shawn of the Dead might be considered zombies by the end of the film as they are put to work and I doubt they're paid for it (though any ethical use of such undead persons would involve an honest attempt to pay to the person's estate or family). Please do correct me if I'm wrong. It's in the spirit of things, here. Also also, Return of the Living Dead is on The Internet Archive at the moment. It claims to be ripped from a VHS with the original theatrical audio. Go watch it!
um actually, according to starkid production’s “twisted” the merchant in the prologue of aladdin is actually an older aladdin, pedaling his revisionist history of the events of the story
Um actually, much like the zombies in Max Brook's previous book "The Zombie Survival Guide," the zombies in the book World War Z are slow. They were changed to be fast in the movie adaptation which, as we all know, despite being entertaining, had virtually nothing to do with the source material. Brooks based his lore on classic Romero zombie rules. Also, if I may be pedantic, the infected in 28 Days Later aren't technically zombies because they aren't undead. It's a rage virus situation.
Zaratan drawn by Jessica looks very much like something Caldwell's pal Julia Lapetite might have drawn as a Pokemon, in that it is basically a retched man.
29:54 Um, Actually, I'm a year late on this, but there are two problems here: Custom Dice weren't a thing in the aforementioned Mario Party DS, and even in the game they do appear in, Super Mario Party, Jess only gave five numbers, missing one of the 1s on Luigi's dice.
Um Actually, the 28 days later series "monsters" are NOT zombies, zombies are people who died who became reanimated, in 28 days/weeks later they are alive, just filled with uncontrollable rage
Um, Actually, slow-moving zombies should be the scarier zombie. There is a such thing as endurance predation, where the predator doesn't necessarily have to try to catch, wound, or otherwise incapacitate their prey (though it helps if it's worth it), they just stalk it until it collapses from exhaustion. Humans are the world's top endurance predator, it was a common way to hunt in our ancient days. Zombies are typically so driven that even death won't stop them, so they are even better endurance predators than humans. And that should be immensely terrifying.
Yup, they are people infected with a virus that induces a deep rage or wrath, they also don't bite people, they puke blood to them and beat people to death.
Spielberg purposely added a single curse word into E.T. so that it would get a PG rating, because he knew that a G rating would have led to the movie attracting a much smaller audience.
@@steveshaver5506 yup. it was a deleted ending sequence where the three live together, spell out a HELP message on the field, and get rescued. they mention that the infected are starving to death; they even show an incapacitated infected dying.

So weird to have an episode where no one steals the point after a missed um, actually. So polite!
You can tell Alyssa is holding back what she wants to say on the Harry Potter question xD
In fairness I think this was filmed before JK's public image went from "questionable" to "persona non grata."
Yup! This was filmed in mid-March of 2019, before JKR had totally soiled her reputation, but she had already made a few boo-boos, and I knew that!
@@Khajmer Ah, right, because authors have to share your exact political opinions or they're complete trash as humans, right?
@@thewanderingmistnull2451 No, because it's ok to except authors to NOT be a complete trash humans, something that JKR is. Like, by a lot.

DUUUUUDEE
Um actually, it's spelled "definitely" and not "defiantly".
Whenever I see this typo, I like to imagine that the person genuinely meant "defiantly", because it's invariably funnier that way.
"They said it would never work, but we did it anyway!" 😄
@@nyxbozovic7503 Um, actually, it's really "defiantly" because what they mean is that they should make an app in a defying manner. Like "I dare you to play this!"
I love that Mike has kept the rights to this show and has just been doing rereleased so that he can have the revenue on his channel rather than college humor. Trapp your a real talent and you absolutely deserve the ip of the show you made up. Cant wait to see new episodes in 2022 lol
Are u sure college humor isn't involved? I mean i think he's still making them for dropout or i assumed anyways
Thank you! I am a new viewer and have been wondering why they were filmed so long before the release date here.
@@rachelrachel9152um actually trapp owns the IP of um, actually but uses college humor and dropout as a distributor
Um, actually it's "you're".

I think it was always implied that Genie was the merchant at the beginning, based on the fact he specifically states that the young man owned that lamp, based on pulling out things from nowhere, and probably based on several other things.
It was always implied, the point is that it was originally planned that they would explicitly reveal it to be the case in the movie, which they didn't, but they also didn't take out any of the similarities the merchant had to signal he was the genie, so it isn't wrong to say he's the genie but it's also ok to not have picked up on that or just not think it is
I REMEMBER IT BEING REVEALED THO SO DOES MY MOM
@@spupidtwins6017I think some of the dvd releases had a deleted scene relating to it, maybe you’re remembering that?

Actually, you see fast moving zombies in Return of the Living Dead in several points. As well as hearing them talk and set traps.

Yes and 28 days aren't zombies they are e just infected with the rage virus so that one is totally blown.
@@allglassbreaks By that logic the ones in the Romero series aren't zombies either because they too are infected with a virus. It's an alien virus that infests dead humans and causes them to consume flesh but it's a virus.

Um, actually, Caldwell calls himself a "bad discipuli" at the end, but that's plural; he should instead have called himself a "bad discipulus."
Came here to comment this lol

@@hetaliajapan01 Direct object of what verb? Am? Being verbs don't have direct objects; you sound like a fool.
Um actually, Edward Elric does require a transmutation circle to do alchemy. By clapping he forms a circle out of his body and uses that as the structural array to direct the alchemical energy
They consistently refer to that as "transmuting without a circle" in the actual show, though.

Right?? I'm sure pretty much every guest on this show is nice, but there's just something about Caldwell's ... "aura," I guess, that puts me in a profoundly good, wholesome mood :)

I love caudwell, and Im nd but I dont really think this was the right way to respond to this comment imo
Um, Actually being a state alchemist is not what enables Ed to transmute without a circle. In fact he does use a circle. His circle is formed when he claps his hands together forming a circle with his torso and his arms.
THANK YOU
When I heard that statement I was initially convinced that was the thing they were going for.
You didn’t say uhm actually 😉
Sometimes I think I’m just a rock with above-average intelligence myself
The weird part of that phrase isn't cyborg, it's human. There are a lot of pure bio species C3PO can talk to besides humans!
Actually it's weird he never speaks wookie (no I don't know the language's name).
Wow, Trapp referenced Smeargle without thinking about it.
Came here to say this. I motion we all comment this on every episode until it sticks!
Serious question here... Did you mean 'Spelling Bee'? I was confused?
Edit: nevermind I was being blind and stupid.

Um actually, the monkey in Aladdin is named Abu. Apu is the Kwik-E-Mart Owner from the Simpsons.
Alladin question was wrong because they were looking for which characters had 4 finger not no fingers. ABU (not apu) was the right answer which a lot of us knew. The merchant was technically the genie in disguise so it is technically still one character, the genie, which was stated in the question -so the merchant is not another character. Also Raja the tiger has no fingers but paws. And Diago the bird has no fingers but talons and wings ect. Ect.
This feels like the most wholesome episode of Um Actually in existence
Um, actually, the diacritic that Trapp calls "umlaut" (30:14) is named "tréma." Its use in the orthography of many Germanic languages indicates the phonological phenomenon of "Umlaut," meaning "sound alternation."
Um actually, Dart is not a Demogorgon. He is actually a Demodog which is totally different and has some weird legs and can easily be seen as a demodog by it walking/running on four legs while the Demogorgon will sometimes creepy crawl with its hands and feet it primarily walks on its hind legs.

Um actually the carpet does have apendages that resemble hands, in one scene (I think in the cave) he point with the corner tassles. From there you could say that he has at least two fingers (thumb and pointer) with a possible third, that I'm not sure about
He also plays chess with the genie were he says "I'm losing to a rug"
Alladin question was wrong because they were looking for which characters had 4 finger not no fingers. ABU (not apu) was the right answer which a lot of us knew. um, actually...Edward Elric is given the nickname Fullmetal because the original Japanese of his name "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi." the specific translation used for Hagane is steel and refers to someone with obstinate behavior. This applies to Edward because he frequently needs to be restrained or reprimanded by Alphonse or someone else present, since Edward has little respect for authority figures.
Um actually, Edward by clapping his hands together makes an alchemical circle replacing the need for a drawn one.
Um Actually the reason he can transmute without a circle is because he commited the ultimate taboo and saw the door that is the truth
You're right. I knew that Ed clapping his hands replaced the need to draw a circle, but I never thought much about it. I just accepted it as an aspect of the magic system that only he could figure out. However, the arms and hands form a "circle" when the hands clap. He's still using a circle every time he claps his hands.
Alyssa was a great guest she actually contributed to the banter and had a lot of fun

14:33 Ganon is not a gerudo, he is a pig monster. Ganindorf is a gerudo.

Um, Actually the "zombies" in 28 Days Later aren't technically zombies, since they are still alive.
Yup, they are people infected with a virus that induces a deep rage or wrath, they also don't bite people, they puke blood to them and beat people to death.
um, actually, 'Return of the Living Dead' was thr first movie to have fast-movong zombies. :V
Spielberg purposely added a single curse word into E.T. so that it would get a PG rating, because he knew that a G rating would have led to the movie attracting a much smaller audience.
