I read somewhere that the song means; the love she gives isn't reciprocated so she envies him, for being loved so much by her. edit: yes this is for the lyrics, the MV is about the story of artemis
The MV director for #INVU posted the explanation of the mv concept: Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, the Moon, and chastity Artemis (Taeyeon) was in love with a hunter named Orion, but Apollo (Artemis's Twin) was displeased and killed Orion, so Artemis turned Orion into a constellation And INVU = I Envy You it fits with INVU’s theme of “i cant love you even though I do”
@@codename-pi I think Apollo also challenged Artemis to a bow fight, which may explain the scene with Taeyeon in the desert as arrows are falling towards her. But Artemis never misses, so that’s how Apollo tricked her into killing Orion. Or at least I think that’s how it goes
Now that I found this explanation and with the mention of constellation, I can finally understand why the song has that galactic, extraterrestrial warm feel to it. The song really captured that feeling and Taeyeon's voice is the biggest instrument to that. I love her voice so much.
It was amazing how that dreamy, floating in space while awing at all the celestial bodies kinda feeling was preserved through a lot of the songs. Even the more upbeat ones ended up having a more emotional weight to them in the context of the other songs in the album. Overall it was a really well made album and you can really feel Taeyeon's touch in every song.
Taeyeon is one of the rare soloist that both singles and albums are beautiful and well made that you'll surely love every song. No skips. Her discography are all amazing.
I don't know about other artist, but I discovered recently how almost ALL of the songs from Taeyeon's albums have streams on the million count (*in spotify). Glad to know I'm not the only one who jams to the whole album because her bsides are just soo good to be ignored. tbh.
One thing I notice is also all the different styles of songs she has and how she adapts to them As a Korean that's nearing 30, when I heard she was releasing her first solo album back in 2015, I thought it was going to be just another K-Ballad stuff but boy was I wrong. From the rock sound in I, tropical house sound in Why, modern Western Pop style (kind of like TSwift) in Fine, the neo-soul in Something New, the unplugged sound in 11:11 - and those are titles or singles - there's so much variety in her full albums

The thing I don’t see mentioned that frequently is how OPEN and HUGE that song feels, despite the minimal instrumental! It really makes you feel like you’re in that vast wasteland/desert shown in the video!
Maybe the reverb? And the vocal layering? Not sure though, just what I felt made it sound like it as playing in an empty stadium but super crisp and clear
Taeyeon portrays Artemis the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, the Moon, and chastity. INVU mv director explains: Apollo (Artemis' twin) who was displeased with Artemis who fell in love with hunter Orion, tricked Artemis into killing Orion herself with her own arrow. Artemis who was sad about the death of Orion, made Orion into a constellation in the sky. Also maybe they purposely released INVU on Valentines day ‘coz it fits the concept of ancient greek goddess since V-day originates from greek Mythology.
Thank you for explaining the MV! I knew that it was because of Artemis but had forgotten about Orion. Btw Valetine's day is not originated by greek Mythology, is the festivity of Saint Valentine, a catholic bishop who was a martyr during the Roman Empire.
Its so rare to see GG or Taeyeon reaction here but when its up mostly they enjoy it and I'm glad, I hope you can do vocal analysis reaction with Taeyeon's Dingo Killing Voice too~ anyway, thank you for reactic to Taeyeon.
The feeling this song has is tremendous I added it to my Spotify playlist right away. The hurt and the love, the complicated feelings accompanied by a simple yet well thought instrumental is wow
For me this was Taeyeon's best comeback song for a long time and maybe the best song in general too! It's just all in all so amazing and well produced song and music video.

Really loved this reaction and especially Will's insight of the MV. I was so focused on the lore with Artemis that that interpretation went over my head. But the fact that you can take away different interpretations or flip the perspective and still relate it with the lyrics and music just shows how much depth was in this MV

warm was the best way i could describe this track. i also like how it was pointed out that the track starts out simple builds on with more elements as the song goes on, as if taeyon(or whoever the song symbolizes) feels small or less than in contrast to the person of their affection, and even though they don't want to, they unconsciously try more and more to match up to the person they feel inferior to, until everything kind of explodes at the end into what i can only describe is a guttural, pained scream when they realize that no matter how much they try, they still feel like they can't match up to the person they love. beautiful breakdown of my favorite taeyon song!!
Reading the lyrics, I think the concept of the song is someone who falls in love and no matter what can’t help having feelings for them despite breaking up whilst the other person can get on with their life without problems. Thus the feeling of envy.
INVU is actually about still loving someone you don't and can't have with you anymore, in general, but the whole body of work (song + music video) reveals that it is actually about the story of the goddess Artemis and her love, Orion, son of Poseidon. Long story short, Artemis loves Orion but she is tricked by Apolo, her jealous brother, and kills him. After that, she asks Zeus to turn him into a constellation so he's always with her and guides her in the night (and you can actually see the references, there's Orion statues over the MV and also, in the scenes where she holds a heart and sends it into the sky, turning it into stars)
there’s a very interesting review of her album, and particularly this song, on NME website (last time I read a review from NME must have been back in 1997, when it was still a printed version 😳).
