I think this is an amazing record of history and a beautiful reminder of how life in Pelican Narrows was not always as it is today. This gives a refreshing look at what the community could strive to return to --- to reclaim the peace, community, and culture that once was the normal. Of course, there are sad parts, too, that are best not repeated, such as the residential school aspect where they illustrate the uncertainty of whether the children would ever return home. It becomes more and more evident where the problems of today were born. The beauty of the culture is still here in Pelican, it is just being overshadowed by addiction, depression, and violence. It would be wonderful if this film was part of the regular school curriculum, as there are people in this video who are still here today, though the children in the video are mostly retired adults now. Great film!
