  • Mind Control may seem like a sci-fi futuristic concept, but todays electronics make it easier and simpler than ever to tap into this incredible technology. In this video we will learn the basics of how mind control works and how we can use it in our own projects. And hopefully by the end of this, we will be able to make a homemade mind controlled TV remote!

    don't tell kipkay, grant thompson, or that crazy Russian hacker but i think you are the best youtuber around. lmao(i put that in because i want to hear you pronounce that in a comments show like 'omg' or 'lol') also, would you be able to use multiple functions like volume, power and channels at the same time each works with different amounts of concentration with one IR LED?

    • @Tinkernut
      @Tinkernut  9 років тому +1

      xSOCCERxKINGx I think I have a new best friend :-) You can set parameters for whatever you want to control. So you can say "if my alertness is less than 25, then change the channel up" or "if my meditative state is greater than 70, turn the volume up", etc.

      Tinkernut Thank you!! this is a really next gen concept that could be really popular. imagine if with your new smart tv didn't come with a standard hand held remote, but a (smaller and fashionable) IR headset came with your TV. No WAIT- use radio waves. *GASP* an app that can interpret brain waves over blue tooth from the headset to have a smart home controlled by your phone-mind control headset(like the twc smart home).
      PUT THE PHONE BACK ON THE HOOK
      I think there would be a problem with multiple meditation state to control different functions, because the only way to change the volume would be to go through the tv input range or turn it off by accident etc. the idea definitely needs more time to develop in research. But i think this is a promising idea that will start popping up more in 5ish years. OOOOHH the headset could have switches on the side to decide which script to use. hang up the phone. that defeats the purpose of no button remote. definitely needs advancement :-)
      PS lshmsfoaidmt (laughing so hard my sombrero falls off and i drop my taco)
      PPS THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEOS!!!!!!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!

    I think the video would benefit from having more footage on the device actually working. You show is you turning on the screen witch is cool but I think if you included a fast demo of you using your mind to turn the channels or something real quick just so we see it actually works that would be cool. Great video man thanks a bunch.

    At the end you asked what we would do with it, here is my idea. Brainwaves can detect how at rest or busy the mind is. So, it should be very simple to extend what you did to make it turn off the TV when you fall asleep. Better yet, you can make the shut off less abrupt by first turning off the volume slowly (to fade the sound out and not wake you up), and then use a microphone to detect if the volume isn't going down any more. If the volume is turned off then it turns off the TV and lets you get some rest. Optionally can also take a wake-up timer as input. If somebody tries this, has any questions or comments please reply to this comment.

    Great hack :) do you believe the measures you can get out of it could be somehow improved to an alternative input to a "touchscreen" keyboard? As a programmer I've always loved physical keyboards and felt like virtual keyboard were merely a default solution until somebody creates a reliable brain-machine interface!

    • @Tinkernut
      @Tinkernut  9 років тому +1

      Michael Tecourt I'm sure that would be the case for more advanced Brain Computer Interfaces, but probably not for the one I'm using. It's very limited in what it reads and not that accurate. Do a search for "MindFlex". That one may be more likely to do what you're suggesting.

    Got it working in no time at all (or at least I got it working with the Serial Monitor. Still haven't done the IR remote bit)! Looking at the data it produces, it really does read one's state of mind quite well. It's a shame it only works with an old version of the Arduino IDE, though. Now my mind is racing with potential projects! Think I'll start with using an Arduino Micro to move a mouse left or right based on the concentration/meditation values.

      ***** You can set controls based on any level of mediation or alertness (or both). So if you want to, for instance, change a channel, you can say that if alertness > 50, go up a channel. If alertness < 50 go down a channel, etc. You can do this for however many controls you want to set.
