Thanks a lot, Ed. Very nice photos. This camera is in excellent condition. Looks pretty new. I also bought an XG-7 and a few other Minolta film cameras off eBay. Of all the film camera brands, Minolta is my favorite. It is said that the first photos taken in the outer space was a Minolta. Too bad it failed in the digital camera era.
Just bought one today with the whole kit/case. No wear or dust or anything. feels brand new. Can’t wait to figure out that metering/aperture priority and to get started
Nice! I did high school and college photography with this camera (borrowed it from my dad). My sis also used it in both high school, and then university. In high school we processed and printed all of our own stuff. New rules around hazardous chemicals used in schools killed the photography program for the generations after us (it's understandable, but it was also sad).
What film works best with the xg7 that I can get nowadays? My coworker is giving me his because he doesn’t use it and I had mentioned really liking the quality of 35mm photos
I love how you’re not afraid of embracing harder light to get great results. I also love Minolta cameras, even though I’ve never owned one. On the 29/09/74 my brother got a Minolta for his 18th birthday. I think my father made an agreement with him that he could have my father’s enlarger, if he handed his Konica SLR down to me and showed me how to use the enlarger. I really wish I'd showed more interest in photography in those days, but I did like the magic that happens fascinated me from the word go. A great video as always Ed, thank you.
Ed Verosky I bought my grandsons a decent bridge camera each a couple of Christmases ago. The one I thought was only asking for a camera because his brother did loves it.
I never had a Minolta. I started out on Zenit as that was all I could afford as a 16-year-old in the mid-'70s. I eventually moved to the Canon AE 1, then Canon A-1, and finally the Canon F-1 in 1984. I still have the A-1 and F-1 and had a great time taking the F-1 on a trip to Mexico a few years ago. This video just reminded me that I need to get out and do some more film shooting. Great shots by the way and thanks for the reminder :)
Hey there! not sure if you would still see this but I am planning on picking up a Minolta XG-9. I cant seem to find much information on it and I am unsure of how it compares to the likes of Minolta XG-M, XG-1, X-700, X-570 etc. Any advice?
Wonderful vid! I use the XG2 (Euro version) once in a while. Plus the XD7, X-500, X-700. all wonderful with prime lenses. The spool is not built to last 40 years, as is shown. But you can even use it when all cracks are broken (piece of tape goes well). Keep on enjoying it! I assume the 50mm Rokkor has the 55mm filter thread?
Been to long Ed ;-) Video nicely done and beautiful shots, as always. Love the ginger/blond model at 1:03. Put her in a sixties scenery with clothes from that time and a success is guaranteed ! Thanks for sharing !
Found this model at an antique shop with every accessory and lens for 65$ Not sure how the auto winder works, it glows red, but doesn't seem to do anything?
I’m very interested in this - thank you for making this video. I just found my late grandfather’s Minolta XG7 in a box this morning. I want to learn how to use it! I have a background in manual with dslr, but no real experience with film.
I like Ilford HP5+ for b&w. So many options for color. But even a basic Fuji Superia 200 or 400 is nice. If you send it in to a lab, ask for scans/digital pics along with prints. You can always convert the color pics to b&w like any other pic.

I just bought a used XG7. Excited to use it soon
wow... this reminds me of those days when I was starting photography...

Still have my XG-7 and various filters for the camera. This was my first camera as well.

So cool that your dad was into photography and encouraged it. We’re doing that with our grandkids!

A great video... Top class... They way Ed displays the relevant lens beside the photos is a neat idea.. and the models did a good job too...
Nice one! I bought a Minolta XG-A camera recently, and was wondering if LR44 cells can be used for it? Appreciate your help. Thanks
just bought one vgc with winder
cant wait to try it out

Yes! Beautiful cameras. Definitely break out the film!

Very similar to the XG-7, but improved.
@@edverosky that is good news, Thank you so much!
Love your film content
My first camera also. The Minolta maxxum 7000 was my next camera.

How can you get these pictures on your phone?
I have a question I know that this camera uses batteries, it is necessary to buy them? Or it is just an option?
Been to long Ed ;-)

Thanks for sharing !
I definitely want to work with her again.
Where can you buy film for this camera? And what do you put to search for its film? 🙏🏼
Walmart three roles for 20 ish
Found this model at an antique shop with every accessory and lens for 65$

It was my first as well! Used it for 20 years!
Do you know if this camera has the same focousing screen of the minolta xg 9?
From what I understand, no. Ask KEH or Robert’s- they would know and might have the parts you need.
Wow, I still have this camera. Passed on to me by original owner. It takes amazing pics. Still use it.
It is really nice. Thanks.
Ed Verosky this was also my first camera. Still works great with all original accessories that cane with it.
AGFA Instamatic (1976), Lubitel II (1980), Yashica FX3 (1983-2003)... one camera (with 2 lenses) for 20 years... who does that today...

Definitely give it a try!

Ed Verosky cool, thanks so much for the advice!
Me acaban de regalar esta cámara que perteneció a mi jefe que murió hace unos meses necesito saber todo sobre ella…donde encuentro piezas de remplazo…
Have you ever photographed with a Pentax ME? Does the Pentax ME vs Minolta XG-7 comparison make sense? Which is better of the two?
