the Norton Blaze flap disk in 40 grit will eat metal like there is no tomorrow. i use their belts on my sander for heavy stock removal.
love your vids. a no BS approach to blacksmithing! keep up the good work
I've even seen woodworkers beginning to use an angle grinder with flap disks for material removal & shaping. Super handy tools, and that's the main reason I have seen entire racks of angle grinders set up for production setups. I think I saw a welding cart that had a rack to hold a half dozen grinders, each with a different wheel.
Thats a great idea! I think i will get more angle grinders, put a flap disc one one, cutting disc one another and a grinding disc on a third. Yay
So many new videos today. 😁
Did you slap that guard on for the video, Trent? It looked like it was on the wrong side in respect to the handle. 😇🤣🤣
Thanks for the information, it's always awesome!!
Damn right I did!
You can tell handle and guard are on for the vid... not going to get in anywhere with the guard and handle in those positions and your fingers on the handle are going to get a bit toasty if you try it... lmao.
Right on! How humankind survived before the creation of the angle grinder is a mystery to me.
I’ve heard before that there is no grinder in the world that can match a enthusiastic smith with a hot rasp.
@@billygildark4565 Don't you believe it! I hot rasp all the time, but my angle grinder does more work in less time on cold steel.
I’ve been smithing for 3 years and welding for 4 I know I’m a baby in the craft compared to you but I seem to never use a rock wheel but use the wire wheel on the daily and I love how you slapped on that guard and handle lol
Great as always, I will try to keep my guard up. Thanks.
Don't forget the wire wheels and cup brushes!
My thoughts exactly! Although I use a buffer/polisher for wire wheels same spindle size as angle grinder but lower rpm, less likely to throw a wire.....
Wish I’d seen this a couple years ago. Great info. I ordered a disc variety pack when I got my angle grinder. I still don’t know what the others are for. Sponge-like fiber disks are for polishing I’m guessing. Do I have any need to go beyond the three types you discuss? So far, it doesn’t look like it.
Not especially, the other discs are mainly for surface prep and polish. These three cover the vast majority of a smiths needs.
Wire wheels for rust and scale removal are another potentially dangerous item that I use regularly.
Sometimes still get porcupined if I'm in hurry.✌
Al Gore likes all the wheels.
your guard is on the wrong side :P
It's been some time since I last saw a cutting (zip) disc with an offset like that. mine all flat all the way across. I really don't know if that makes them any less likely to shatter or if it makes no difference at all.
I useta shoot from the hip... then I took an arrow to the knee
keep out of the line of fire... NEVER put your face in line with a spinning blade
