A CD-ROM in this configuration in 1989 is pure sci-fi. It would have blown my 7 year old mind because I had an XT with two 5.25" floppy drives and no HDD. I would have melted.
I REALLY want one of those, that is the coolest looking model with the front loader and the LEDs, you're lucky to find it! I just spent this year's game allowance on a Blast City, next year I'm stocking up on Japanese computers like FMT and PC98k :)
Usually, you shouldn't need an adapter, unless if the computer has a propiatary connector. Alot of VGA monitors usually work with older computers that have the older VGA format.
Here are a few points I missed in the video: **This was released only in Japan **This CAN run Windows if you have a HDD, however, the native OS is "Towns OS", which boots from a live CD **The BIOS contains all the software and drivers needed to boot games and support FMT expansion cards. **The CPU is soldered, so no easy upgrading. Drew, games for this thing are expensive, but the shmups are insanely priced. Fortunately I picked this one up locally for a great deal.
Cool stuff Rob, I always liked that vertical CD drive. Didn't realize there was an equalizer on the front of it though, that's pretty badass. Games for it are pretty pricey though, right? Tatsujin Ou included.
The controller seems like that used in Marty console because Marty it's in reality a FM-Towns converted in a console game. When the sales of FM-Towns drop a lot than Fujitsu came with this idea and sold it as Marty game console.
Whoa! Never heard of this... weird that. I love old computers. Amazing it was released with no hard drive, but since everything is proprietary (I guess) the software is in the chips, eh? Wicked. Just did an Ebay search on these and only got 2 of the "Marty" Japanese consoles. $700-800! Ouch!
Isn't this actually a pretty advanced computer for its time? I don't recall any/many computers released in that time period with easy-access panels like that...nor do I recall all that many computers with CD-ROM...Windows 3.1 was on floppy and Windows 95 had a 30-disk floppy set or a CD-ROM and that was August 1995!
Something I find funny about the FM series of computers/consoles is that, just like the PC-98 series, there are a metric ton of porn games. I swear, my looks through the library of FM games seem to show that like a full third of them are adult games.
I've just bought pne today myself, and as Towns OS is based on MS DOS, I suspect it to at least run one of the first windows at least. Here's the spec sheet of the SF2, the one that I just bought : twinklemagic.la.coocan.jp/towns_kai/data/sf2.html

I saw a advertisement of this back in 1992, and it looked awesome. It may have been only a 386 DX, but it has a 32 bit ELSA bus on it.
I really want one of these. I am gonna start saving up money to get one imported. Great video!

That display on the front is a VU meter, not an equalizer.
This is simply awesome sir, my best friend is on the hunt for this. I know it's very pricey but he will get one if it kills him, lol

CRT = Scanlines! Nice vid thanks :-)
i hope you still got it. im so jealous :(
Have you ever done any DOS benchmarks on this system and posted the results anywhere, like VOGONS?
What kind of adapter are you using to connected it to the LCD?
I WANT ONE!!!
I hope you can put your hands in a PC-FX that's the sucessor of the legendary PC Engine by NEC.
