What an excellent presentation. You take on the Iphone vs Segway marketing is spot on and this video is great for folks like me, who are wondering why these unicycles aren't more mainstream yet. Your great production and spattering of humor keeps it fun and me watching. I was searching the Z10 and found this. Thank you!
An EUC needs a lot of dedication, but gives (had given to me) the greatest reward. Moving around in the city, not sitting in trafficjam is just priceless. Just got my Z6 two days ago, after an S2.cherrs
Poetic. I like how you explain that body movement is being translated into locomotion. I feel like riding is dancing. Good music enhances the experience and provides an interesting challenge.
"it becomes an extension of yourself".... That's what I am always looking for in life . Things that help bring out the excitement of being alive. I just bought a z10 looking forward to it. Great video ..Thanks.
Very well put together. I appreciate your dedication to making such a well thought out video. Its a breath of fresh air to listen to someone who sounds well educated not snobby just cool. For me it's a cost thing as well as being high risk. It's hard to justify paying that kind of money for something that looks like I am going to end up on my face one day. I like watching the videos but I struggle trusting it.
Thank you! Yes the cost is still high and the risk is real, however it isn’t un-manageable and compare to something like motorcycle, it is a lot safer. As long as you wear proper protection and do not ride in an unresponsive fashion, the chance of being hurt is minimal. But having one has been life changing for me, reducing the friction of getting around means that I actually want to be out more, and that opens up all king of new things!
Hsiang additionally, there are many activities that are awesome, fun and meaningful but need a lot of training and practice like driving, skiing, in-line skating and the list goes on... the EUC is no different and is a challenge I relished. I so so enjoy riding my V10 - the feeling of carving turns, doing tight u-turns, ascending ramps, swinging from side to side. It’s just such an amazing feeling. Similar to when I first tried snow boarding. I thought it was a fad until I felt it. Certainly, Chris Rathjan, a powerful wheel will keep you upright over almost any kind of bump. It is otherworldly and an amazing feeling having the wheel correct balance going up and down dropped kerbs etc. Really amazing. Go for it!
roxoto and motorcycles are harder to ride standing up with no hands ;) Both vehicles have their awesome points (I rode bikes most of my life). Where I live now we are not allowed to ride motorbikes (China) and so the world of EUCs opened up and I love eucs too :)
start with a ninebot C+ they are very affordable usually found on sites like gearbest. can get you from a to b in a street setting just like the z10. just not as far but same segway technology.
*“Our environment would also have to change to best leverage this new paradigm of perpetual proximity.”* You have a great way of explaining a thought my man, that is why I love your content!
In my opinion the Segway never caught on because it was expensive and incredibly dorky (you nailed it). Mall cops sealed the deal when they started using them for patrols. The Unicycle I think has a chance, mainly because of affordability and you can easily load it into a car or walk into a train. The e scooters are a retro design we all grew up with so it will stick, yet they are still not widely accepted when rentals are tossed all over city streets and dealing with incredibly stupid operators (renters). The EUC looks like the future which is why people break their necks watching one cruise by. Can’t wait to order one!
The steeper learning curve is really the only obstacle, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never go back to anything else. The simplistic nature of the EUC means that you can cram a lot more performance into a smaller package, having the largest diameter tire of any PEVs is also a huge plus.
I completely agree with your Segway insights. I thought the same thing when I first saw the original Segway. I never went the unicycle route but commute regularly with my electric scooters. I prefer the inherent greater stability and comfort on the scooter over the 20 miles that is covered daily. One of these days I do plan on picking up a OneWheel or Ninebot as I know they would be very fun. I think any electric vehicle that can replace your petrol burning vehicle is a good thing. My next car will be an electric one.
You’ll love it! Electric scooter is fine, however a subtle but huge difference with EUC is that you control them via body lean and your legs, and its easier to get to a point where you think of it as an extension rather than vehicle. Its this almost bionic aspect of EUC that really fascinate me.
Totally agree with you. I have been riding since October 2018. Have a Ninebot E+ and a Z10 (two Segways). When people ask me about them, I tell them, this is what the Segway was supposed to be. My problem is, I live in sprawling Orange County California where 6 line streets and highway on-ramps are the norm. So you are right that our environment needs to be conducive to EUC transport. I still feel safer on my bicycle than I do on my Z10 in the street. But the good thing about Orange County is, no one walks, so the sidewalks are empty.
great video Hsiang, I got my first Electric unicycle yesterday and took 45min to get the basics riding and turning. day 2 am happy with slowing down to carefully dismount, step off. so many people stop me to ask what it is, I say its an inmotion v3, a lower end beginners e-unicycle, even was stopped to give a talk to a group of school kids who were doing their cycling proficiency. one piece of advice I would pass on to a newbie like myself is to stuff padding in your socks to protect the inside of your ankles for the rough dismounts when learning.
You can also cut out soft foam and tape it directly to the side of the wheel, it'll also protect the casing when you drop it. I rode my i5 like that for a few months when I first started
I love your content Hsiang. Such a well thought out presentation. Informative interesting and to the point. I can see more clearly after listening to you. Thank you.
You earned the Subscription Homie. Keep up the Great Work. I have been looking for that game changing thing and you are exactly right. This is it.. and more to come is keeping me excited about the future of technology.
Another great video! The part about how the bicycle was a total game changer is so true. So far anyone that tried one of my EUCs just long enough for it to "click" has become thoroughly addicted! Better than a Corvette for a mid life crisis haha. Just as it's somewhat of a mystery that the EUC hasnt caught on more, I'm also surprised your channel hasnt become a household name!
Whoa! It all makes sense to me now. I was wondering if I was as crazy as my wife thinks I am buying all these PEVs and trying to justify them all. Now I can say to her, "Well, I might be going through a mid-life crisis. It's either these things or a Corvette. Which do you think costs less?" Thanks!
I think one of the big things hurting the popularity of the Segway was also the cost. Something like $5,000 for a vehicle that does maybe 11mph, doesn't have the portability of a unicycle. Even a lot of people who thought they were cool weren't willing to spend that much on one, for what little it could do. I do think the unicycles are much better (cheaper, better performance, more portable) I know where I live anyways, most people simply don't even know they exist or know much about them. I see a lot more scooters, electric skateboards, and electric long boards. Hardly any unicycles.
100 percent agree. Everyone would be using these things and way less cars would be on the road if the technology would just get the right backing and publicity.
Especially the smaller lower powered model! I know that most enthusiast love 2000kw monsters but something like the KS14D would satisfy 90% of the public out there.
@roxoto they take a bit to get used to and definitely requires good body control but I think most people who can learn to bike can easily pick this up in a few hours. (But I've always snow boarded, biked, rode motorcycles and such so I'm probably a bit biased).
There are 70 years old man on the EUC forum riding these, if they can do it then I can’t imagine it being “hard” for anyone younger and in regular shape
The new weapon of choice. For the ancient warriors the sword was an extension of the arm. Now the EUC is an extension of the body. And it feels so good 😊
For some reason I see the EUC as his horse and the selfie stick as the lance. Throw in an umbrella shaped as a shield and he can commute old school cavalry style, charging down the streets.
hinterlight shield? Do you doubt my lance skills? None survive to pose a threat! LOL! I am actually a bit worried that I might clothline someone with my stick one day..
What I think is extra cool is the micro movement needed to take off is not visible and you really can't feel your body move. I just think foward and i am off and cruising
Its a very peronal thing, and I see both people who glide along effortlessly and people who ride hard and really lean into the wheel. I like that it adapt to you rather than the other way around.
Verry nice video, kept me glued to the screen the entire time!! I myself own a MiniPro and it is amazing, i kinda need the ease and stability that two wheels can provide and yet it is still small and light enough that i can carry it with me where i want! I believe these personal transporters are the present and the future, people just need to try them and they won't be able to resist.
I actually think the mini-pro is cool but that’s probably because I am a huge nerd! =) the issue with it is the limitation on speed since 10mph is too slow for bike lanes and do not offer significant advantage over just walking. It would be very different it is faster and keep up with traffic in a bike lane. It is easier to pick up but I encourage you to try an electric unicycle when you have the chance!
Hsiang Yeah it's not too fast, but here in Sweden anything over 20kmph is considered a moped with all the requirements of registering it and having helmet and all that stuff, also i catch all the bikes at red lights LOL. And of course if i get the chance i will definitely try a unicicle!!
Great content here. When special tax incentives was given for purchasing Hybrid Cars a few years ago, I jumped on it. It was a bigger investment than normal non-hybrid car, but the perks of owning one outweighed the cons. HOV lanes all the sudden became accessible w/o 3+ passengers. I believe some states gave special parking spots for hybrid cars. With that being said, with electric scooters coming to cities, I see the change coming. What this EUC community needs is an organized way to introduce and train prospects. People just see us zip by and sometimes we do a quick chat. If there was a location where people can walk in, get free lessons, heck even a VR / Wii balance board style training just to let curious minds interact with the tech, then I can see EUC will gain more momentum.
Imagine someone interested in EUC in NYC, walks into a store front pays maybe $100 and given a temporary entry level wheel for 4 days complete with training/ obstacle course, how to fall, safety gear etc. Then at the end, like most of us, graduates to more powerful wheel. This way we peak their interest, gain prospects trust and confidence in product, before finally upselling them on the wheel that best fits their daily life needs.
I as well agree with your observations about the failed early campaigns, however the the advent of the hoverboard was making the electric trans last mile toy a common place item in a lot of children's homes. The batt fail was the next big fail that negatively affected the e-wheel reintroduction. For example I am a flight attendant with a major legacy carrier. When the airlines and press combined all of the industry into the same poor product and then banned them it was another fail that the national press ran with. I wondered why there were no lobbyists that were deployed to save it from being thought of in the same arena as a hoverboard. I used to take it with me all over the world and tour places with it. It was great until the airlines banned them. Now I just have to enjoy the slow organic build of wheel community throughout the country and my city....Atl. it hasn't stopped me from absolutely enjoying riding around my city though....
there are no lobbists since there isn't enough of a market and most EUC manufacturer don't have a presence in the US due to patent dispute. hoverboard had been a PR nightmare for the PEV market but with Lime and Bird reviving public interests I am hoping that it'll help the EUC market grow as well. However concerns for lithium batter fire is real and untill we have a new battery chemestry, airline approved EUCs won't be feasible. better path would be standarized, modular and removable battery, and some kind of battery rental service. its feasible but would take a lot to pull something like that off.
Its a Dianese motorcycle jacket; its quite old and no longer available but their current jacket is just as nice, a bit more expensive but much nicer cut than the other brands.
@@OWGAC Thanks for the reply! I see that Dainese has some very nice alternatives. Now I just have to wait until the Dutch government unbans electric unicycles.
The only problem with the segway was it´s price$$$$$$, it was a tank, much more reliable and safe than present chinese unicycles.......but it was the beginning of our present unicycle reality. Thank you, for your very interesting video!
Very well done. I appreciate the work you put into writing something like this up and having the organizational aptitude to film and piece it all together.
@@OWGAC i like the yapping to many vids out there just showing riding the wheel,, including me lol 😀,, i need an external mic ,,, keep up the good work
excellent video. one of the best I have seen on youtube. The cinematography was great and your dialogue was clear and compelling. Long enough to get the point across but not blathering on like so many others tend to do. Love your work.
Just found this year old video. EUC’s have come a long way in a year! Too bad the Z10 has lost support from its manufacturer and eWheels. I think it’s still the best looking EUC out there.
Did you see the presentation? I think it was ‘U Stride’ who did a review on the release. The V11 sure looks like the Z10, but the 3” wheel still can’t beat the 4” Z10 monster tire.
Good video 👍👍 I subbed because of your Z10 videos you've been posting. I have a Ninebot ES4 and I love it. It goes to 20 mph but I am looking into getting a Z10 one day. I have never ridden a electric unicycle before so I would have to learn lol. Keep up the good vids.
Thank you! I had a e-scooter before and they are nice in their own way. And Yes, get an EUC if you are able to; there’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get it, its like nothing else!
I am curious about this as well; you cannot remain stationary and have to stand on one leg when you stop. The other issue is that there are no shock absorber and I often had to keep my knee bend to act as a cushion. Not sure how well it would work with artificial knee joint. But the control scheme is straight forward. As long as you can control your center of gravity and shift your weight with precision then it should work.
I really don't know the answer to this... Are you supposed to at a stop light? Cyclists would stop right? I know you're checking, but wouldn't a cop fine you even if it's safe. Or people would get pissed off by you ignoring the light? Btw, I love your videos. Keep up the great work!
This is NYC and there are no greater annoyance to us than people stopping in the middle of the street/sidewalk unless it's for a good reason. A red light when there are no moving cars is not a good reason. Any cop writing you a ticket would be laugh out of town; last time it happen it got written up in the local news in the joke section. Seriously
Hopefully with all the interest in personal transportation and companies like Lime and Bird blowing up there’ll be changes to the regulation. Figure the rational Germans of all people should embrace these new technologies!
I have this wheel too, I took it for the tubeless, for in the future put him a graphene battery (18650). 500 miles and loaded in 28 minutes ^^, the dream, the future!
Awesome review! But... I have a Ninebot Mini pro 320 and a Ninebot one S2. They are pretty different, I use both, but I still prefer much more the Minipro to travel. The reason? More stable, easier to ride, much lighter than the Z10 (I'll buy it for sure as soon as it will be sold in Europe!) and much cheaper (364 euro on AMZN)! The One S2 is a bit more expensive (Paid 414 euro), but very difficult to drive as long as you learn how to ride it, compared to the Minipro. Difference between EUC and small segways: With EUC you ride faster but on roads and traffic, with segways you go everywhere, between pedestrians (I work in fairs, I use it usually to get to hotels and train or underground stations etc.), you can stop, go with heavy baggages, and even enter elevators without stepping off. That's great. IMHO both are great, but I'm not really sure which kind of them will be the future. Probably, if there will be a Ninebot still compact as the mini but with bigger wheels and a bit more power (i.e. ~1600w and top speed of 28kmh) that will be a win, expecially if sold with advanced features like the Mini Plus follow me option. Looking forward to try the Z10. ;) Comments are welcome :)))
I want to use this for work! Could it work outside the city? We survey huge properties, sometimes more tough terrain, but I think the Z10 might could handle it. The thing I love is the idea we could jump a fence and take it on the other side. No 4 wheeler can do that. And we don't want speed, going slow would be required so we don't drop shovels and poles we're carrying.
I owned the Segway i2 for about ten years. I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of it. I found it to be extremely safe and maneuverable as well as easy after one lesson. For perspective, I have owned multiple e-rideables including e-skateboards, e-scooters, and I now have the Segway drift. I sold my Segway because the two $1K each batteries died. I also feel that it's dated as other options are smaller with smart technology/apps. It pained me to do so however. I got a lot of compliments on it and often allowed people to take it for a spin. If NYC accepted it as they do CitiBikes, I may have invested in keeping it. So fast-forward to the present. I bought a Solowheel Glide 3 late in 2018. So far I can't stay on it longer than a few seconds. I feel unsafe on it and can't imagine going outside on it yet. However, I was attracted to its size and the Segway-like glide. I love seeing people like yourself gliding around as I used to do on my Segway. I knew it would have a steep learning curve but I also remember not knowing how to ride my Segway initially, so I am hoping that I'll get the hang of it by summer. I do feel that the EUCs are least intrusive, so I believe they'll be accepted before anything else. I just saw a guy riding on my neighborhood sidewalk in NYC between people, slowly and with ease. I can't wait to have my 'click' moment when it feels intuitive. Side note: Some used Segway Its for mobility, not due to being too lazy to walk. Once I injured my ankle and was able to use it to get around. Some seniors use it for mobility. And at 12.5 mph, it's more akin to a brisk jog. By contrast, I have read about the EUCs suddenly dying and throwing people off due to zero balance if it dies. So we all take risks with these.
I know it might sound like I am down on the segway, but it’s more like I am trying to figure out why the it failed, which I don’t think anyone would disagree that it did. I loved my palm treo, and the fact that palm failed did not make it a bad product, just one that nobody bought.
$0.02. I think most people loved the Segways as long as they got on one. I purchased an off-brand A8 knockoff for my 5 year old daughter. She stepped up on it and has been riding it frequently since. I ride an InMotion V3Pro I picked up second hand from a family that purchased it for their daughter, but was abandoned as uncool. There are many of us that live in a function over form World. Who cares what my V3Pro EUC looks like when it gets me where I want. Then there are others that will slap a judgement on the Palm Treo (I had one with the modem card) when the iPhones came around. It is no longer "this isn't for me" and more "anyone that rides this thing is an idiot". This is the prevailing attitude we need to work on. This is what killed the original Segway. I remember the comments made to me. The Ninebot Z10, Z8, Z6 series is the key. They are absolutely beautiful. They are the iPhone to the fully functional Treo (IP5, V3Pro, Ninebot E+). Unfortunately, like the iPhone, they are such a premium product that casual riders like myself can't justify the price. Please keep doing what you are doing. It is a great video with a great message.
@@OWGAC If the success or failure is based on their initial launch statement, then it didn't meet that goal, agreed. However, it's still on the market and many e-rideables are based on its technology as you noted in the video. My opinion is that market saturation was hindered by price and regulations. I also believe that in places where Citibikes and Bird scooters are popular, if Segways were available and branded as such, people may have been more prone to see them as viable, safe, low maintanence fun transportation. Unfortunately my i2 (now sold) and the newer PT models are dated IMO. Most don't have any smart features like app connectivity and as you said, there are other options - basing their technology on that original Segway though ;)
Another enjoyable video! I like your thought processes and your eloquence in communicating. How do you speak to your cam so clearly while riding without having wind noise in the background?
I'm baffled by the lack of adoption of EUCs. I've been riding mine around town for two years and get a tremendous amount of interest. I always stop and answer questions and promote the mode of transport but there are fewer than 5 EUCs in my city of 75,000 despite my having put 1000s of miles on mine around town.
There’re still too much regulatory and legal headwind currently; I also read that there are a lot of patent issues on the self balance technology and this is why no American company would get into the EUC business and none of the Chinese one would have a presence here either. Without it and marketing dollars it’ll be an uphill battle, however I hope that the massive growth in electric scooter would be the gateway product that opens up more interest in other personal transportation devices like the EUC.
I would absolutely love to get one however we can’t. We can’t even buy the older versions of it. Apparently they’re only sold in Europe. This company has great products and absolutely terrible or should I say zero customer service. Great video and review. I’d love to get my hands on one. Thanks for posting.
Unfortunately the word on the street are that ninebot is getting out of the electric unicycle business since there aren't enough customer base and that the higher speed translate to greater liability for them. apparently this is why they had pull them from both the US and European market
I got it from Ewheel, I think I paid like $2k for it, sounds like ninebot isn’t interested in supporting the US market at the moment, but hopefully that will change in time..
Fk! men, you really talked me into it, i watch all your videos about the Z10, and now im gotta buy it and eat dirt for a month! i would see you on the road with my Z 10 and we might go for a ride!
@@OWGAC YAH, IT WILL BE NICE to ride during the summer~ im getting the Z10 on Aliexpress and its 1500+ which i think its a decent price. hope you can teach me how to ride it when i got it!
I think you missed the biggest reason why EUC aren't more common ... the legal aspects ... these things are illegal in most places around the world, though in some places they may be ignored by police (e.g. New York) even if technically illegal. Because of the legal aspects there aren't many retailers promoting or selling EUC or any other PLEV. Scooters are more popular because they are easy to ride and companies such as Bird and Lime have been making scooters available to hire. Mass market appeal will rise once we see these devices being promoted and making appearances on TV and film, then everybody will want their own PLEV. Just look at how popular Hoverboards were until they were banned from public roads and pavements. The need for alternative methods of mobility is real and I believe this will explode when PLEVs become legal around the world and more retailers start promoting and selling them.
I think we are at a point of technology progression where regulation will also be a step behind; the evolution and speed of change is simply too fast for most governing bodies to react to. Bird and Lime being the prime example of it. But like you said, as long as there are sufficient interests, which translate to revenue for companies whom in turn lobby the government for changes. Segway is legal in most of the US for this reason since they had lobbied for the change. But I don’t think the regulation will ever change with out a huge amount of public interests; from my experiences regulation usually gets more restrictive over time and not less.
@@OWGAC I would also say that there is a very strong use case for PLEVs, because we need to reduce car ownership and dependence to free up our city streets and clean up the air. Electric cars are too expensive and inefficient for moving one person around and do nothing to solve congestion problems. Not everyone wants to ride a bicycle or has place to store one and we don't want our streets filled with bicycles chained to lamposts. Taxis and public transport aren't available where and when you need them and are expensive. PLEV's solve all of these problems with the only (small) downside being one of safety to riders and pedestrians. The green issue will be a main reason for governments to legalise these vehicles because it won't meet its green targets without them. In my opinion the next big revolution is personal mobility.
Agreed 100%, but I also think that we’re a tiny tiny minority of people who get it. This is why made this video since I really think that the EUC community needs to be more outward facing, not just in terms of being welcoming but also actively go out to promote what we do and why it make sense. I think most hurdles like cost, regulation and safety can be solved but there’s has to be a will and that has to be generated by more public interests. It is interesting how Elon Musk was able to turn electric car into a premium product through Tesla, we need someone like him for EUCs also.
Mate amazing video. Love the whole edit style. Great message and I'm certainly going to forward thus video to friends to explain how awesome euc s are.
The world excluding Germany. We're close to finally legalizing e-mobility, it just requires a handlebar, lights, indicators, a number plate, and a maximum speed of 20 km/h. Since a handlebar is required it excludes everything but e-scooters and segways. Fun times.
Regulation will always be one step behind unfortunately, and here in the US EUCs are sort of in a gray zone and unregulated. So the requirement for a handle bar means that EUCs is still not legal? Do you think that this would be something enforced?
@@OWGAC Unregulated is one thing, comitting a felony driving those things another (driving a power-driven vehicle above 6 km/h with no registration or insurance protection). From what I've heard it's up to luck if police do anything about it. I'll certainly be pushing mine because I bought an Inmotion V5F and plan to use it.
how do you think this would do while walking my German Shepard? I love my Ninebot mini, but the stupid speed limiter that slows me down anytime I go 9mph is getting old.
Ian of speedy feet UK does that. He takes his doggy on leash while he rides his euc. His dog is well train though. Ensure yours does not tske sudden left or right turns and pulls you off balance. Otherwise anyone riding an EUC with a dog is always going to look awesome! Edit: oh yeah Robert Ace rides his z10 with his dog unleash. You can never keep up with a dog running but u can with an euc haha
Wear gloves. I used to walk my dog at night with a ninebot e+ and one night another person was also walking their dog and my dog suddenly went the opposite way. Luckily for me I had gloves that was just thick enough to handle the rope burn but by the end of the day it went through and barely touched my fingers.
Very interesting observations. I was there that day at Bryant Park and got to ride the Segway. It was like flying! I have to disagree about EUCs, however. I've watched learning videos and they've scared me off. While it's true we put up with learning how to ride a bike, that's when we were all eager kids and had peer pressure to live up to. There's nothing similar we face today as adults (except maybe getting a car and learning to drive). As far as electric personal transport goes, I'm really thinking Onewheel has the best chance of changing things. The Pint got me interested even though I'd ruled out a Onewheel before. Having watched a ton of UA-cam vids, it seems much easier to learn than an EUC. But even Onewheel has a way to go. It must be lighter and the range restrictions need to be lifted -- which could be done with a swappable battery pack like Mellow Drive offers for eSk8.
Awesome video. Seriously well put together. Very very good points. (Love that augmentation part) I had the chance to go to WPI to check out the Segway and I wasn't totally impressed, but it was cool.
Thanks! I think the underlying self balance technology is revolutionary, but unfortunately the design of the original Seway limited its appeal. Its funny that the same technology later transition into drone and that had become hugely popularize but Segway did not.
Really REALLY good video man! Extremely professional! But I can't help but notice that you aren't clipping your helmet closed and that worries me! It'll fly right off your head if you fall! It does seem that it's open when you go slow, so I also feel you're well aware of this considering how well you think about all of this :D
thanks! yeah, I am usually pretty good about buckling my helmet but must had missed it somehow! some time juggling all the recording equipment is a bit distracting.. =)
Hsiang I have two Segway Mini by ninebot I love them I ride them all over my property and around the neighborhood but I especially like to ride them to all the big box stores shopping Dean Kamen got it approved by the American disability act and they are allowed everywhere if you have a handicap card. It is a life saver for me as I can stand but can’t walk due to a Neurological disease. Great videos I will by a z10 tomorrow if you know if it is approved yet by the ADA. Can you tell me if you have heard any thing? Thanks, Dolphin Dave
Very cool video! I bought the ips 5 unicycle because of your video review an I love it. I'm in college and the ips is perfect for campus. It is incredibly cool how everyone is puzzled and wondering how am I doing it, thinking is that even possible??
Spread the word! Very few people knew about EUCs and I think the more people knew about it and join us, the less chance there will be for misconception or rules made against us!
I got the z6 instead of the z10 weeks ago. I also have the ks16s modified with 2.5inch tires. Since i already have a good ewheel in ks16s, i love the looks on the z6 and so bought me one. Z10 is abit overkill for me. Anyways, good vidz, good content, and very well narrated too, thats why i am a subscriber of your channel!
Thank you! What is the top speed on the Z6? And does it ever feel like it is underpowered? Its not available in the US but I might get a chance to try one on my next trip.
@@OWGAC i believe z6 top is 35kmph and i am not heavy in weight so the z6 doesnt feel underpowered to me at all. Its just always gives me a very smooth glide off from the moment i move off or mount or if i need to tilt forward To accelerate. I tested it and the max distance seems to be 45km. No speeding, just plain cruising speed from start to finish. Also, the z10 comes with soft paddings for the top and bottom part of the wheel whereas z6, there is none. Hence there is no side pad to grip unlike the kingsong ks16s. Anyways, alittle mod here and there and i got my own side soft pads. Now the pads make me feel as one with the wheel. Wobbles are non existent and i can brake or make maneuvers without the feeling of the wheel slipping from under me. Yeah, if ever you can get your hands on a z6, it would be nice to see you do a review. However, i suspect for your size and weight and u already own the z10, u might be disappointed with the z6. Still, if theres anyone who can do a good review, ur the man i would choose. Z6 is still a damn good ewheel in my books though. At half the price of the z10, and specs that fit me well, its a no brainer for me.
I love riding my mountainbike. This unicycle is awesome, but what about the braking distance? How long is on this? I feel like this device is very dangerous. On good bicycle with good brakes and person which knows how to brake (which many do not) you must brake so much faster. You really need to stop fast if you travel 40km/h or more!
I think EUCs are ultimately very different from a bicycle. I can ride my Z10 on the sidewalk in a pretty dense walking crowd, a bicycle would be unwieldy in the same situation. Also I think danger is more associated with irresponsible behavior than a particular vehicle.
Nice man at his video is by far one of the best when I got my ebike I looked at countless. Cut to chase l think u are awesome I just met u and this video reached me and u keep up the good work I like how u observed Steve Jobs introduction to iPhone peace be safe man
@@OWGAC I did already =) Shared your channel into few Ukrainian sb-unicycle fan groups. Hope that will help your channel to grow. Good luck any way, keep going, never stop!
I love the irony of how you describe how segways look stupid and people riding them look rediculous riding them.......while riding an ELECTRIC UNICYCLE.......dressed like a samurai. I still want one, but everyone looks rediculous riding one. Maybe it will be more commonplace in coming years.
I think part of the issue I had with the segway is that its engineered and design to look “safe”, there’s an element of edginess in a “cool” design, like a plastic phone with bumper is safe, but uncool while an all glass + thin phone looks dangerously easy to break, but I think that’s part of the appeal.
Love the Z10 look - haven't gotten one yet - riding an InMotion for the moment - looking at the video, it wobbles terribly between your legs... can you comment please ?
combination of speed; bad road condition and its wide tire. The Z10 is weird in that although it wobbles at time, it does want to stay up, and if you learn to keep your leg loose and not fight the wobble, it is actually pretty stable.
Wow, great video! However I think electrical scooters will actually do what EUC's promise since they are successful without any massive marketing. That's why Bird uses them and not EUC's.
the industry will change if the automotive companies jump on board, the present manufacturers probably wasn't expecting it to last this long, to them, it probably was a fad to make some quick bucks, why would you stop at the Z10 which was one of their greatest product, if there is a change in better product quality and support and an affordable price range more people will take the ride.
I doubt it since there are too much liabilities associated with a product like EUC. the winning formula at least for other PEV companies like boosted are to leverage marketing and hype to get venture capital and use it to super charge R&D but the chinese companies can't exactly do that so..
Very good and fine video! Nice job... Just...what i found a little awkward is around the 14min mark...where you say that “ only Ninebot does the job and is superior in design and technic over others”!? I mean....hey thats your 2nd own EUC, or? Actually technic wise the Ninebot is a big disappointment, seeing that 9b needed 4 years for development. And then DOA failure rate.....horrible. But dont get me wrong: Your video was phantastic, strong arguments...i might perhaps just also add legal factor as reason why they dont go sell like hell... :-) Keep on doing this great videos!!
I don’t disagree; I think none of the EUC company makes a product that is quite ready for prime time just yet, KingSong does have better quality control, however their design consist of just scaling the shell up and down to accommodate different wheel size, while Gotway’s look like plastic boxes. We nee a wheel that is engineer well and design beautifully, but without more popularization and demand, we’ll probably never get it.
Actually i can absolutly not agree, they dont „just size the wheel“ up, perhaps you could have said that for the evolution/downsizing from KS16 to 14d/s.....where the 14d/s was the follower of the boxy 14c... Actually there is also the highshell KS18S, which is the best wheel for long range seated option, it has nothing todo with a “round sized up” wheel. Actually the EUC community even wanted KS todo a 18inch with the rectractable trolley style like on the KS16...instead of the high 18S shell...and they listened to the demand! Then also soon will be the new KS16 inch wheel, which also is not round, unfortunatly more i cant say now :-) Please dont feel offended..but thats what i meant...Owning the first “real” EUC with the Z10....and getting into a lot conclusions without knowing much of the backgrounds. Again...not meaning that as an offense in any way....just trying to make some things more clear. When 9b again needs 4 years to bring their next wheel on the market, it can even look ten times more fancy than the Z10...it probably will be to late :-)
I think it was more like $5,000 when it was introduced. But high price didn't stop Tesla from selling its product, I think if it had been compelling, people would have taken to the idea even if they can't afford to actually buy it. as in, there are a whole lot more people wearing Ferrari t-shirts than one whom can actually afford to buy one.
@@OWGAC Yes but it was a different time, and people also thought at that price it was impractical. Even though Tesla's are expensive they would be more capable and practical for the money. I'm seriously considering getting a EUC.
I think Tesla really shifted the perception of an electric vehicle. before Tesla people think of electric car as wimpy, nerdy and boring. Tesla made it a premium and practical idea and I think that shift is just as important as the product being good. I have yet to meet a person whom regretted their choice with getting an EUC, not counting the ones that gave up due to the learning curve that is.
@@OWGAC I agree. I've driven several Teslas and I want one! I want to get an EUC, but don't know whether to get a basic one like a Ninebot so if I didn't like it I wouldn't be out too much money. Or go ahead and get a Kingsong 16s for the longer range and performance. And if it didn't work out, sell it and recoup as much money as possible.
They were, however the sales pitch here is that; this larger and more powerful device will also fit into your pocket just like the phone you have. So yes, that is precisely the point.

What an excellent presentation. You take on the Iphone vs Segway marketing is spot on and this video is great for folks like me, who are wondering why these unicycles aren't more mainstream yet. Your great production and spattering of humor keeps it fun and me watching. I was searching the Z10 and found this. Thank you!
Glad you enjoy it! Yea, EUC is a bit strange, it is the most revolutionary transport that nobody ever hears about!
An EUC needs a lot of dedication, but gives (had given to me) the greatest reward. Moving around in the city, not sitting in trafficjam is just priceless. Just got my Z6 two days ago, after an S2.cherrs
I hope that they will gain enough traction to keep the manufacturer interested in development them further!
@@OWGAC couldn't agree more. Great vids, keep it up
Thank you! be careful and take it slow, but you're going to love it!
Where I live now we are not allowed to ride motorbikes (China) and so the world of EUCs opened up and I love eucs too :)
roxoto Yes but motorcycle crashes are often fatal; people do get hurt off of EUCs but thankfully I haven’t heard of any fatalities yet.
start with a ninebot C+ they are very affordable usually found on sites like gearbest. can get you from a to b in a street setting just like the z10. just not as far but same segway technology.
*“Our environment would also have to change to best leverage this new paradigm of perpetual proximity.”*
You have a great way of explaining a thought my man, that is why I love your content!
The way you elaborate things is just so interesting. Maybe its the way you make your sentences very creative. Your are great storyteller.
Thank you!!
This review was brilliantly intelligent and both well planned and well thought out. Smartly made. Well done.
Thank you!!
Did you get an EUC?
Totally agree with you. I have been riding since October 2018. Have a Ninebot E+ and a Z10 (two Segways). When people ask me about them, I tell them, this is what the Segway was supposed to be.
My problem is, I live in sprawling Orange County California where 6 line streets and highway on-ramps are the norm. So you are right that our environment needs to be conducive to EUC transport. I still feel safer on my bicycle than I do on my Z10 in the street. But the good thing about Orange County is, no one walks, so the sidewalks are empty.
strong content and delivery ! always look forward for your thoughts and videos !
Thank you!
great video Hsiang, I got my first Electric unicycle yesterday and took 45min to get the basics riding and turning. day 2 am happy with slowing down to carefully dismount, step off. so many people stop me to ask what it is, I say its an inmotion v3, a lower end beginners e-unicycle, even was stopped to give a talk to a group of school kids who were doing their cycling proficiency. one piece of advice I would pass on to a newbie like myself is to stuff padding in your socks to protect the inside of your ankles for the rough dismounts when learning.
Thank you.
Thank you!!
Thank you! It is still a slow learning process and my wife still think I am crazy, but hearing that people enjoy these video really keeps me going!
@@OWGAC totally. I've even tried the little ips i5 my friend had and it was great. Although I do prefer my z10 for obvious reasons.
And it feels so good 😊
I know right?! Its one of those thing that only people who rides them understand!
This thoughtful and thought provoking video was enough to make me subscribe. I wish UA-cam had more of these. Thank you!
thank you!
@@OWGAC no no no, thank you! 😂😛
OH HELL YES I CANT WAIT TO GET THIS WHEEL
"Bionic augmentation" is a very good way to think about this! Very nicely done!
It's like regular car reviews for ewheels.
Cool riding jacket you have (the completely black one). What brand is it and where did you get it?
Its a Dianese motorcycle jacket; its quite old and no longer available but their current jacket is just as nice, a bit more expensive but much nicer cut than the other brands.
@@OWGAC Thanks for the reply! I see that Dainese has some very nice alternatives. Now I just have to wait until the Dutch government unbans electric unicycles.
The only problem with the segway was it´s price$$$$$$, it was a tank, much more reliable and safe than present chinese unicycles.......but it was the beginning of our present unicycle reality. Thank you, for your very interesting video!
Honestly man, your videos are so thoughtful. Incredible job.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Wow! That was a great video Hsiang!!

excellent video. one of the best I have seen on youtube.
Agreed! But I am vary curious to see what the new Inmotion will actually look like!
Did you see the presentation? I think it was ‘U Stride’ who did a review on the release. The V11 sure looks like the Z10, but the 3” wheel still can’t beat the 4” Z10 monster tire.
James Baynes I did! I am working on a video with some thoughts on it!!
Good deal. Love the content. Keep it up and stay healthy.
And it was ‘Wrong Way’ who did the review I watched. My mistake!
Is it possible to use this as a hight leg Amputee? Maybe if there is a stick mounted in the middle to hold an maneuver?
Seriously
Sadly in Germany it is the law, which bans nearly all small electronic vehicle like EUCs... (The automobile lobby is too big here)
Hopefully with all the interest in personal transportation and companies like Lime and Bird blowing up there’ll be changes to the regulation. Figure the rational Germans of all people should embrace these new technologies!
@@OWGAC Rational germans, yeah cool! I'd hope our gouvernment would be too! :-)
I have this wheel too, I took it for the tubeless, for in the future put him a graphene battery (18650). 500 miles and loaded in 28 minutes ^^, the dream, the future!
And lighter weight! I have to drag him up and down the stairs a few time and I wish it wasn’t so heavy!! =)
really good storyteller. watched your latest video before. keep this style. its unique.
Thank you!
Looking forward to try the Z10. ;)
Comments are welcome :)))
Keep in mind there are no cargo capacity to speak of so everything needs to go in your back back. But do it and let us know how it works out!!
I bought an external recorder and use a lavalier mic! It was a bit of a pain to sync the audio each time but it made a world of differences!
Thanks! Your effort pays off. Keep those videos coming!
Dude, I love your channel. Great analysis and I really like your presentation. Well done sir!!
Thank you!
You are most welcome sir! Thank you for your outstanding videos. Want to have another go at kite boarding?
Great video. Ninebot should hire you as their promoter here in the states and do their videos.
I know right.. ninebot, you listening to this?? *crickets* lol
I would absolutely love to get one however we can’t. We can’t even buy the older versions of it. Apparently they’re only sold in Europe. This company has great products and absolutely terrible or should I say zero customer service. Great video and review. I’d love to get my hands on one. Thanks for posting.
Unfortunately the word on the street are that ninebot is getting out of the electric unicycle business since there aren't enough customer base and that the higher speed translate to greater liability for them. apparently this is why they had pull them from both the US and European market
how much did you buy the z10 for? where did you order it from. it's not on amazon yet. I have seen gearbeast, and Ali
I got it from Ewheel, I think I paid like $2k for it, sounds like ninebot isn’t interested in supporting the US market at the moment, but hopefully that will change in time..
Very articulate musings and well thought out explanation, now Subscribed
thank you!!
Good job ! I love it very much !
That’s how you introduce it, take notes Segway lol
Thanks, LOL but unfortunately ninebot segway is currently too busy filling e-scooter orders from Lime and Bird to even think about anything else!
Fk! men, you really talked me into it, i watch all your videos about the Z10, and now im gotta buy it and eat dirt for a month! i would see you on the road with my Z 10 and we might go for a ride!
Come and join the NYC EUC Collective! Weather finally getting nice and I think the guys are riding almost every day now!
Great review! Thanks
Mate amazing video. Love the whole edit style. Great message and I'm certainly going to forward thus video to friends to explain how awesome euc s are.
Thank you!! I had to find something to talk about since unlike “some people” I don’t get to travel the world and make cool videos! =D
Isn't socialism great?
how do you think this would do while walking my German Shepard? I love my Ninebot mini, but the stupid speed limiter that slows me down anytime I go 9mph is getting old.
Ian of speedy feet UK does that. He takes his doggy on leash while he rides his euc. His dog is well train though. Ensure yours does not tske sudden left or right turns and pulls you off balance. Otherwise anyone riding an EUC with a dog is always going to look awesome!
Edit: oh yeah Robert Ace rides his z10 with his dog unleash. You can never keep up with a dog running but u can with an euc haha
I seen people ride their bicycle with a dog on the leash, yea if your dog is well trained he or she might even enjoy the run!
@@OWGACthats nothing bro, ive deen dogs riding ewheels too!
Wear gloves. I used to walk my dog at night with a ninebot e+ and one night another person was also walking their dog and my dog suddenly went the opposite way. Luckily for me I had gloves that was just thick enough to handle the rope burn but by the end of the day it went through and barely touched my fingers.
Your videos are much improving! keep it up! great content.
Thank you!!
still getting the thunder, my birthday is mid april and i get a triple paycheck in may, ramen it is for as long as i can tolerate it
Very interesting observations.
Sinclair C5 was a classic example of this.
Where did you buy your Z10 at I'm in the states?
Got it from Ewheel, unfortunately they aren’t currently selling them since they haven’t gotten any new stocks I think.
Hsiang
I have two Segway Mini by ninebot
I love them I ride them all over my property and around the neighborhood but I especially like to ride them to all the big box stores shopping
Dean Kamen got it approved by the American disability act and they are allowed everywhere if you have a handicap card.
4:00 what a nice monument. What is it?
Its the Unisphere from the 64 world fair! Also the original Men in Black!
Well said!
Great video!
Thanks!
Hope germany allow euc this spring, i want the z10 so much
I hope so also; I think the more people get to know and understand what EUC is all about the better the chance we’ll have at legalization.
Nice man at his video is by far one of the best when I got my ebike I looked at countless. Cut to chase l think u are awesome I just met u and this video reached me and u keep up the good work I like how u observed Steve Jobs introduction to iPhone peace be safe man
Another great vid
Thank you!
awes0me content ! subbed
Thank you!
Like your jacket. What's the brand?
Its from Dianese, highly recommended. Slightly more expensive but worth every dollar!
That´s a great movie!
thank you!!
I love your videos! Wondering why you still have so few subscribers...
Thank you! I am still new at this, and I think I am also pretty terrible at marketing, forward the link if you can and I would greatly appreciate it!
Great vid, had some good content and gave me a great idea for my next video. 👊🏽
Cool, glad you enjoy it! Love to see what you make next!
@@OWGAC Cool - thanks for the reply. Fantastic rough look it has and the wheel looks badass :)
its expensive m8......my only reason. love your channel . maybe ill have on one day...
Wow, great video! However I think electrical scooters will actually do what EUC's promise since they are successful without any massive marketing. That's why Bird uses them and not EUC's.
Subscribed. And hooked.
THank you! =)
I like your style.
thank you!!
Hands down to Mr. Hsiang!
Nice coat. Where did you buy it?
Its from Dianese, i think I bought it from Revzilla like 10 years ago, would def. recommend it!
the industry will change if the automotive companies jump on board, the present manufacturers probably wasn't expecting it to last this long, to them, it probably was a fad to make some quick bucks, why would you stop at the Z10 which was one of their greatest product, if there is a change in better product quality and support and an affordable price range more people will take the ride.
I doubt it since there are too much liabilities associated with a product like EUC. the winning formula at least for other PEV companies like boosted are to leverage marketing and hype to get venture capital and use it to super charge R&D but the chinese companies can't exactly do that so..
Thank you. Excellent job. I really enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoy it!
Greate bro I enjoy my Segway product to...
I blame you for not making enough Segway converts then! =D
Keep on doing this great videos!!
Then also soon will be the new KS16 inch wheel, which also is not round, unfortunatly more i cant say now :-)
Please dont feel offended..but thats what i meant...Owning the first “real” EUC with the Z10....and getting into a lot conclusions without knowing much of the backgrounds. Again...not meaning that as an offense in any way....just trying to make some things more clear.
When 9b again needs 4 years to bring their next wheel on the market, it can even look ten times more fancy than the Z10...it probably will be to late :-)
Great video
Thank you!
The other reason Segway didn't take off was the cost. At the time $2600-3000 was way too much for people to afford.
And if it didn't work out, sell it and recoup as much money as possible.
pretty sure phones were going into pockets before the iPhone :P
They were, however the sales pitch here is that; this larger and more powerful device will also fit into your pocket just like the phone you have. So yes, that is precisely the point.
this is just the better version of the hoverboard I don't think this will change the world
What stick is that?
It’s two monopod joined end to end with a weight and a wearable gimbal, LOL I’ll have to do another segment to explain!
Awesome! I envy your cinematic skills. You really know how to present the material!
Thanks, I am still learning though but it has been fun!
