Most talented people aren't exactly easy characters and probably Phil isn't one but come on, it looks like media trying to irritate things that should be forgotten. It was a casual moment: Sir Paul did not mean anything wrong but Phil took his inadvertent remark as humiliating. Just a clumsy moment, entirely avoidable if both were in a different mood at the time. The rest is malicious overblowing. In general, I dislike all those YT stuff about who hates who, somebody's 10 most hated musicians or bands etc. - modern media for you...
I remember Paul McCartney was told about the death of John Lennon he said, "tough init"! I've never liked him since.... (I stand corrected! I know what he said had the same tone . But yes I do recall he said "it's a drag".) Not the greatest response on hearing of a good friends demise!
Like the media at the time you take everything he said about the shooting as gospel, he was the first Beatle asked for a reaction soon after news came through. He was in total shock and then to get a microphone shoved in your face is not right. He did release a statement soon after he had fully processed the news of the shooting of his best friend. That statement read " He was a great man & will be missed by the whole world, & he will be remembered for his art, music & contribution to world peace.
He actually said it's a drag. Watch the interview, McCartney was numb and not in a position say anything, he wasn't indifferent to John's death as you're implying, he hadn't had time to even process it properly.
I listen to the Phil-era "Genesis" all the time, Home By the Sea is as great as anything put to tape. That said, I never listen to Peter-era Genesis, it gets tons of props but it doesn't make me want to listen.
True but gradually ! However, Peter also became a pop singer. At that times it was a question of survival, or at least the path to take to remain successful, and both Tony and Mike fully agreed on the band's new direction. Other bands did something similar, i.e Queen and Van Halen begun to use synths in the early 80's....
Again with the usual high ignorance level about this "thing". Tony banks, whilst lesser known for his solo output, and Mike Rutherford (Mechanics being a huge 80's and 90's soft rock popular music band) are the writers of the majority of Genesis' later songs. Tony himself has admitted on many occasions that he loves having hit records.
At Phil's time in life its pointless hating anyone, just enjoy the time you have left, and also your mate John Martyn had a finer body of work than Genisis ! He was great
yE Yes. He sold out for the dollar, and produced poor shite.. However, in the Gabriel/Genesis days, he was one of the top 5 monstrous drummers on Earth!
Anyone who doesn't think Phil Collins is talented needs to be checked into a psych ward. He is immensely talented. That being said, if he is still touring, it is time to stop. He is too old and fragile for that life style. Take the advise of Grace Slick because she is right about old looking rockers who think they are still in their 20's and trying to replicate their "glory days". Although, I have to admit, the Rolling Stones will still be on tour when I am rotting away in my grave. 😂😂🤣🤣
I wouldn’t have time for Macca either if I was in the music business. They’re 4 oddballs to my way of thinking (except Ringo who’s quite normal and a laugh). My brother had the Sgt. Pepper album. Can you imagine what I thought? Oddballs wearing those clothes. Still don’t get them or what they were trying to prove.
putting aside Beatles, Zeppelin and Floyd i think it was pure professional jealousy but it seems that the first 3 didn't want Collins up to their "Rock Gods" status level, perhaps i wouldn't either but how about a hell of first-class singer song writer
What a petty little man Phil Collins is. For him to be offended at McCartney for that comment is ridiculous. Paul even apologized when really no apology was necessary and yet that was not enough, it was not "sincere" enough for his liking. What a diva.
Due to my appreciation of Roger Waters, that was disappointing to hear, however, the rest, including McCartney (and I was once a huge Wings fan) can go jump. Mr Collins would wipe the floor with any of therm by sheer, immense talent. Even McCartney who has written as much shit in his life as he has decent songs.

In general, I dislike all those YT stuff about who hates who, somebody's 10 most hated musicians or bands etc. - modern media for you...
Why does it keep interspersed footage of some Phil Collins tribute act?
Who the Hell is that at 0:33? Most of the concert footage is not Collins.
Paul said: yeh, its a real drag.
It may be that Lennon was going to reveal a huge secret and was offed by the powers that be.
@@mr.g1758 Like Mal before him and George after
Totally agree with Rog Waters.. but I don't like Floyd that much either . 😄
Phil Collins is excpetionally talented. You don't last 50 years in the music business if you're 'crap'.
Please, Genesis became a pop band when Peter left and Phil took over.
He was great
Phil Collins got such a successful family..
That’s right. He has a talented daughter named Lily Collins, the actress who recently starred in the Netflix series, “Emily in Paris.”
South Park nailed Phil's huge ego.
Who is Noel Gallagher?
Exactly!
yE
Yes. He sold out for the dollar, and produced poor shite.. However, in the Gabriel/Genesis days, he was one of the top 5 monstrous drummers on Earth!
The more you are around some people, the less you like them.
SIR PAUL,YOUR TALENT IS REALLY GREAT,BUT PULL YOUR HORNS ,WE ARE ALL HUMAN, PINCH YOURSELF 😊
I do agree with Phil, although I like his foe’s music better.
SO WHO THE GUY ON STAGE AT THE START?
More respect for Phil Collins now cause i agree with him as Paul McCartney and the beatles were terrible
I wouldn’t have time for Macca either if I was in the music business. They’re 4 oddballs to my way of thinking (except Ringo who’s quite normal and a laugh). My brother had the Sgt. Pepper album. Can you imagine what I thought? Oddballs wearing those clothes. Still don’t get them or what they were trying to prove.
phil played on press to ...by paul so they ones was friends
doubt McCartney is bothered .
When did Genesis change their name?
Some of your footage of "Phil Collins" on stage is actually NOT Phil Collins.
putting aside Beatles, Zeppelin and Floyd i think it was pure professional jealousy but it seems that the first 3 didn't want Collins up to their "Rock Gods" status level, perhaps i wouldn't either but how about a hell of first-class singer song writer
Any person with a shred of decency would despise Simon Cowell and the business model he represents.
Phil Collins over any of this lot.
Phil Collins has a chip on both shoulders.
I doubt it.
Changed the band name? What utter tripe! Another channel blocked...
What a petty little man Phil Collins is. For him to be offended at McCartney for that comment is ridiculous. Paul even apologized when really no apology was necessary and yet that was not enough, it was not "sincere" enough for his liking. What a diva.
Paul was his hero at the time. I guess he has every right to be disappointed!
But why post a pic of…George Michael? …and say it was Phil ? And you call yourself “Facts verse?”🙄
I agree with Phil. Simon is an arrogant and cruel as-hole,
McCartney is overrated, as are Nirvana and all the others who had a dig at Phil, he's as good, if not better, than most of them as a musician, singer and songwriter.
Completely agree. Phil Collins, the band the Beatles could have been.
🙄
Pity that some of the images aren't even Phil !😮
