Art Scholl flew the Cessna 150 Aerobat in this scene. For those who aren't familiar with him, he was a pretty famous stunt and movie pilot. He was killed during the filming of "Top Gun" not long after this movie was produced, when he went into an inverted flat spin off the California coast. What a tremendous pilot he was - who else could take that Aerobat to the absolute edge of what it can do? Not many like him around anymore.

Today they wouldn't bother to make this flying real or the motorcycle driving would be cheep CGI with shaking cam so you couldn't see whats going on. Those stuntmen in the 80's just rock!

Brillo, the guy in the plane with Larry B Scott, was played by Tom Fridley and was also in Karate kid. He was one of Freddy Fernandez’s friends at the beach party. He famously egged on Daniel by claiming “maybe they ain’t got no moves where he comes from”. He is also the nephew of John Travolta

It never said he had zero oil pressure, just that he was losing oil pressure. The real issue is somehow he didn't just maintain speed but accelerated while losing oil pressure. One would expect he would at least slow down, if not seize the engine as his friends warn him.
"Can you hear me now?" That moment, as an adult, is now the ONLY point in this scene I can still relate to: I'd never do anything this crazy, especially after being sabotaged, but I'd sure deck Notcher for it. This is ironic to think, after an 80s childhood where I was thrilled by the adventures of characters like Doug Masters, and encouraged to "identify" with them somehow, I've realized that i feel more like the other characters, who think this is bullshit. At best, I've grown up to be more like Chappie than Doug . . . I hope.
Ever notice that the flaps are down on the Cessna? This would have been no contest with the flaps up. I've flown the 152 quite a bit. This has trick videography which makes it look dangerous and some portions probably were. But not as dangerous as it looked. A very memorable scene in a classic aviation movie.

Pilots weren't as safe back in the 80s. Looking back in adulthood, I'm more interested in how we're expected to believe this kid can rescue his dad with an F-16, but he can't land an Aerobat in 500 ft using full flaps without having a runway excursion resulting in a nosegear collapse.

Well technically if Doug did crash it wouldn't technically count as man slaughter 1 cause the plane would be destroyed to the point were they wouldn't have enough evidence to prove that it was tampered with and would say it was just a malfunction

Well the XR250 looks like its hammering so say 110-120kph is like 62kts so flaps out it would be ok but pushing the envelope for maneuvers lol... slightly too steep side slip turn and you would drop a wing easy
If I’ve done my researching calculations correct The XR250R still bone stock, with a 13/48 gear combo and a max rpm of 8200 could expect 65mph… Now knowing that this is a pair of stunt boys they probably upgraded the gear set to give it a bit more upper umph to help out the Cessna With a upgraded 13/39 combo you get a calculated max. speed of 78mph. That’s 67.78 knts… With the Cessna A150K, L Areobat stalling out at 48 kts and the fact is that stunt rider is riding balls to the wall…. I’d safely say …65knt/75mph is Their speed..

Upon doing further research, the RPM gearing and sprocket sizes would all be still the same so the speed would remain the same you’re only difference is your torque value and acceleration but yes you are correct in seeing that it is a XR 350 R!

@@conquistador69420 upon further review@ min 5:34…you are correct it is a XR 350 R!!! Upon doing further research, the RPM gearing and sprocket sizes would all be still the same so the speed would remain the same you’re only difference is your torque value and acceleration but yes you are correct in seeing that it is a XR 350 R!
