  • There are a lot of potential reasons for oil leaks. I'll address a few on this car, a 2005 Chevy Malibu with 3500 3.5L V6 engine.
    The main one here is the Oil Pan Gasket, also Oil Filter Adapter Gasket, Oil Pressure Switch or Sensor, PCV Valve and Transmission Gasket.

    My 05 Malibu has 304k miles now. Did this job myself in the driveway and vowed to never do it again. That passenger side motor mount you showed us with the bolts pointing downward right above the exhaust were the worst. Starter, AC compressor all have to be moved. The 04 thru 06 Malibu, G6 and Aura were the same. The 07 models have an updated 3.5 and when you do the oil pan gasket the engine and transmission have to be separated to get clearance to some of the pan bolts

    Hello I would like to know how did you remove the oil pan side bolts from the back of the engine by the transmission?

  • @braaap6292

    I have an 08 G6 with the 3.5. It always leaked oil from every possible place. I eventually replaced ALL the gaskets and seals on the engine (lower intake, valve covers, timing cover, oil pan, oil filter adapter, both crank seals). Stayed dry for about a year before everything started leaking again. I actually replaced the oil pan and oil filter adapter twice and they still leaked after about a year. I don't get what the deal is. I used Fel Pro and Victor Reinz gaskets and The Right Stuff sealant for where it's required at joints. It would seem that the gasket materials are just garbage and don't hold up but I don't know if there's something better out there. Very frustrating.

    I have a 2006 Malibu Maxx 3.5 V6 and it's leaking oil in the same places and after watching this video, I realized that it's way out of my skill range and I'm taking to the mechanic tomorrow. How much should I expect to pay a mechanic to do this job?

    He never mentioned the 3 bolts on each side of the oil pan that has to come out for the pan to drop!!!!

    Hey Trent; I hate leaks of any kind. I anyone comes over to my place with a known oil leak, I ask them to park on the gravel, not the pavement.

    How did you get that oil pan out? I'm doing basically the same job on an identical Malibu, and I cannot get that pan out! I've loosened the exhaust, taken out the engine mounts, put an engine hoist on it, and everything else, but the pan simply will not come out. It is loose, and will drop down several inches but won't go past the frame. Any help would be great! Thanks!

    • @jaredrouggly8298
      @jaredrouggly8298 2 роки тому

      Actually it's not even touching the frame now, because I dropped it down a little. It still is stuck on something.

      Sorry you’re having trouble with that. With engine mount out and the little bracket next to it, there should be just enough clearance (11:00 mark) I’d lift engine slightly to give more clearance, then shimmy that pan around to get it loose. Sorry I can’t be of more help without being there!

      @@DJR5280 I appreciate the replies to the thread. I had so much trouble with this project that I just put the thing back without changing the gasket. I wasted too much time on it, and I needed the vehicle. It was without a doubt the most frustrating job I've ever worked on. Thanks though to everyone for trying to help.

    I called the Chevy dealership, and they told me that I would have to replace the valve cover. Because the pvc valve is built in to the valve cover. Is this true for the 2009 2.4 liter Malibu?

    • @edwardmartinez2165

      I can't find a pvc valve for a 2009 Malibu 2.4 liter?

    • @Whit_Siever
      @Whit_Siever Рік тому

      I think 2.4 is the 4 cyl EcoTec, which is different block. My Saab uses EcoTec as base block and their PCV is inside the intake manifold, not sure if Chevrolet does same thing though

    I had a lower pan oil leak in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra it's been fixed with the permatex The Right stuff gasket maker.. but now for some reason when I use my heat in my car it is so hot that it's unbearable.
    Could this have anything to do with the oil leak fixed prior to that it was nowhere near as hot as it is now it's so hot I can't stand it.

    • @TrentsOvertimeGarage

      @@TrentsOvertimeGarage it's weird though cuz I never smelled this burning smell prior to him taking the header off of the exhaust and now I smell it every day. The only thing I smelled prior to that was an oil leak smell I know what that smells like cuz I've been smelling it for the longest time.
      It almost feels as if there's like moisture like a gush of moisture hot air that comes in
