You'll do whatever you decide, haha. I'd like to see a "restoration" of both the 4dr Chevy and the 2dr Pontiac. Thank you for the great content Dan, Dani and Murr!
Dan, batteries can hurt you, I had a 41ft sailboat I had purchased to restore. The engine room was in the center of the boat under the cockpit and was entered through a set of doors that were about the size of your cabinet doors under the kitchen sink. The boat was designed for easy access to the batteries which were some old six volt golf cart batteries. There was no cover over them and it was summer time in Florida when I was trying to get it running. The batteries were in a line just inside the engine room doors and I didn't think anything of sitting on them while working on the engine. Well I'm here to tell you the if one sweaty cheek is on the positive and the other sweaty cheek is on the negative it will light you up! Of course I jumped upward but the area once again was like climbing into the cabinets below your sink and smacked my head so hard that I saw stars. After that I put a thin piece of plywood over the terminals. But my ass and head hurt like hell for the rest of the day. Lesson learned is sweaty Dickies work shorts won't protect your ass....
Batteries can kill you. I grew up on a farm. when I was maybe 10 years old, myself the farm mechanic, and a couple other guys were sitting around in the farm shop. There was a late model full (for being the early '70s) full sized Chevy sitting outside the shop, connected to a battery charger. One of those big ones with wheels that you can push around. All of a sudden there was this REALLY LOUD noise. Then several other noises as something was hitting the outside and roof of the corrugated tin shop building. Scared the crap out of me. First time I'd ever heard an explosion, other than fireworks, which were legal back then. But this was BIG. We walked outside, and the whole left front corner of that car was missing. There were pieces of it scattered all over the place. The battery had exploded. They may have had the charger turned up too high. Lead acid batteries produce hydrogen and oxygen when being charged, or when shorted. A lead acid battery has the explosive force of a stick of dynamite under the right (or wrong) conditions.
CANT FATHOM HEAT, HUMIDITY, TORNADOS, AND HURRICANES -- I SPENT A LIFETIME X-COUNTRY SKIING, ALPINE SKIING, SKATING, PLAYING HOCKEY, AND FINALLY FATBIKING STUDDED BIKE TIRES IN THE WINTERTIME ON TRAILS AND FOREST ROADS.
my uncle was working on car at our house a wrench fell out of his pocket and landed between the posts it exploded in his face we poured maalox and milk in his eyes we saved his sight but he had burned his face bad I never put tools in pockets again or on radiator support they always find the radiator
You guys have some magic going on here! Love Mur’s sage like advice. As an American, would love to see the Canadian Pontiac running maybe sort of stock-ish. Great job team!
Can`t wait for PINKY the Belair !!! And the 55 PontiChev !!! LOL Great Pod Cast everyone !!! Nova is ready for Lift-Off now !!! Rave - On Danni, Mur and Dan !!!
SO nice to meet your Dad Dan. What a super nice human he is. Merlin is finally known to me. I hadnt seen him before, but finally nice to meet him AND now I know where you got all your good habits LOL.
Dan, you have no idea how excited I get to see you work on Tri-Fives, particularly the '55s. Makes my struggles and goals with my own '55 wagon seem real and attainable. Thank you sir.
There's a ad on marketplace in Illinois for a 67 Camaro right now, roller that's not as complete as yours and the guy wants 20k,and it has no title.Yours is very reasonably priced.
Dude you have a six in the Pontiac as well surely you can make one out of the two engines. Those sixes were so smooth and torquey it'll make a sweet cruiser.
I love the thing about restoring a car so it is better than original. Saw a write up on a Mustang that was restored to that point years ago. They striped every thing to bare metal and started by stenciling part numbers even before primer. they got information from ford with every number and location even paper tags that were left in place during assembly.. ended up with a below average rating.
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ Locking yourself in the backyard was funny Dani. It was good to learn of your future plans Dan. Great episode guys 👍✌️🇺🇲
Another great Podcast Dan, Danielle and Murr! I just finished watching the video where you pulled the big block out of the Nova and a minute later there it is all together and you guys are putting on the hood! Dang Dan, you're fast! I do have to say though, you cleaned it up in the engine bay so nice, even shot some paint in there, have a brand new engine all clean and shiny, but didn't bother to wipe the dust/dirt off of the air cleaner lid!? Sorry, I'm a bit OCD about stuff like that. LOL! Great show guys and gal!
When I was 18, I was cleaning a riding mower with an air compressor. While blowing out the grass and dirt around the battery, my grad ring touched the positive and the brass air gun at the same time. When the air gun touched ground, my ring instantly turned red. Burned my finger all the way around. Also blasted a hole through the ring.
I don't think you should mess with trying to remove the 57 convertible floors and part it out. You should sell it as is and let the next guy have fun with it
I have occupancy sensors in my garage/shop and my barn. Work great. My normal job is designing lighting control systems for commercial buildings, so a no brainer for me to have on my property. Dimmers in the bathrooms is also a good idea.
Hey Dan, Down here Illinois in the US if that matters... I'm a Chevy guy, but Pontiac's are more unique, and they're not making them anymore, so values are going up for them now all the time. You see a Chevy's everywhere, you don't see to many a Pontiacs around much, there more rare. If I go to a car show and see a 55 Chevy I'm going to do a quick walk around pass, but I see a Pontiac. I'm going to stop walking around to be like wait what is this and take my time and look at it. Trust me even though it might not be your taste leave it a Pontiac. Americans do love their Pontiacs...
I was always told to hook up your battery positives, then the negative of the dead one, and finally the last negative to the chassis or engine block on the good car. The last ground would still arc but away from the battery and gasses. We had one explode in a forklift once, it sounded like a cannon in the warehouse. Luckily nobody got hurt. It was suspected that the cable was loose and caused the arc.
damn DDSS, i love these podcasts! yall keep talking about buying property, i hope you are planning for the long term and looking in like arizona/texas/florida/georgia....seem to be the best places to live for hotrod guys... i live in san diego california and we def have the best weather and roads for hotrods but cali laws and state government suck...but Arizone is only a few hours of suprisingly nice driving away... keep doing your thing, one of the best channels around my only problem is keeping up with how often you post lol
Going to open a big can of worms changing that 55 Pontiac to a Chevy, different frame, it's like a C channel style with a X brace, front suspension totally different, rear shocks upper mounting different, firewall is different, trunk floor different
Hey Dan, Danielle and Herb, Here's another thing which a lot of mechanics do and I will never do again. When you are working on an engine, you tend to leave tools lay around the area. Like the fenders, radiator hold down and anywhere else you can reach. My DUMBASS had some wrenches on the radiator hold down and had someone fire up the engine. When he fired it up, a wrench fell into the fan and kicked out and busted 7 of my front teeth. Talk about PAIN, sheeeeech. So to all you mechanics out there, DO NOT LEAVE ANY TOOLS LAYING AROUND THE ENGINE AREA IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE IT RUNNING. Please, take my advice and save your teeth. They don't grow back a third time. Love your channel, videos, and all your builds. Take care and be safe. P.S. I want to know what you want for your 47 Chevy just the way it sits. Please let me know before you sell it.
Fix the Pontiac as a Pontiac, we can talk about 2 dooring the pink 4 door later when Dani isn't in the room!. ;-) seriously if the 4 door stays a 4 door, Dani might have an easier time loading up her friends for girls night, easier than having to step over the front seats if you are all dolled up,. White roof over pink coral (or reversed, some super shiny hubcaps with the little tri-blade spinner things , a continental kit and spats if they ever made them for 55s.
When I was a kid, my brother was rebuilding an antique briggs and Stratton engine and wanted to see if it had spark. He told me to grab the spark plug lead. I learned really quick what spark was
Mur magic is doing wonders for the podcast, keep up the great shows! The second camera angle should be over Danni's shoulder watching her filming the show where a quarter turn of her head gives her the majority of the frame. That way her head turning towards the camera would give a heads up so to speak. Hope you are finding luck with that hobby farm estate sale hunting. And hey, "Kijijidiot's", have feelings too, you know?
I was changing the battery on my ‘79 jeep and did not disconnect the negative. As I was removing the positive cable, I hit the wrench against the hood, created a spark, jumped back and scraped the top of my wrist on the corner of the hood. That cut took forever to heal. 40 years later, I still have the scar.
I once saw a battery in a 72 Toronado blow the top off higher than a telephone pole. Luckily no one was hurt and it didn't even touch the hood on the way up. Was a crazy day.
Mur you’ll like this, H/S auto shop in ‘79 we got a new Sun diagnostic machine fella started his car the leads got tangled in the fan and pulled it right under the hood ripped off all the wires and damaged the car, the teacher near lost his mind as he just covered this very thing, pay attention folks.
I think the Pontiac would be worth the most as original as possible. I think doing the rust repair and getting it rolling would be best. If you can get the original motor running -great- dont think it matters really. If you have a cheap enough engine laying around to put in fine. I think a good solid toller and pass it on to the next guy. Im a B.C. Alberta guy and have seen many tri five chevys but I've only ever seen one Pontiac
Yet again Mur brings some interesting tech tipd to the show👏 On another note the new 4 door Chev must stay a 4 door because Steve want's his own door, 🐕🦺
If Dani wants a pink top. Paint it grey and pink. Make it a floral pattern. Paint it grey then use a table cover with the pattern you like. Lay it over the roof and paint it pink. Pull the table cover off and flower power roof.
i only mention the canadian version stuff because when i was a kid i owned a 1953 dodge crusader (canadian only model). and my buddy owned a 57 pontiac pathfinder (canadian only model).

I have a 55 Pontiac star chief I think it's a great looking car better than a Chevy . To each his own a lot of people love it because it's different you don't see a lot of them.

Man it was loud.I ran home covered with acid and went to our shower in the basement with everything on and washed the acid off. That never happened again as I hook up the wires period.
Mur was born to teach. I probably would have paid more attention in shop class if my teacher was like Mur.
Me too, totally
He likes to hear himself talk that's for sure!
You'll do whatever you decide, haha. I'd like to see a "restoration" of both the 4dr Chevy and the 2dr Pontiac. Thank you for the great content Dan, Dani and Murr!
Will a refurbishment do? 😂
Thanks for the info on the batteries. Can't wait for the next project coming up. Keep up the great work.

There's a ad on marketplace in Illinois for a 67 Camaro right now, roller that's not as complete as yours and the guy wants 20k,and it has no title.Yours is very reasonably priced.
100%
The look on Dannys face was priceless. When she touched the battery terminal.
I. Was. Scared.
Before we remove a hood it would be drilled with an 1/8 drill bit through hinges & into the hood.
They lined up great using this method.
Mur's instructional podcast:
It sure is easy to see where Dan gets it from. Nice tie in, Dan to Mur - can you put the hood up 🇨🇦 Nice finish Dannie
This is a new fav. Well done. Just guys in the shop shootin the poop.
I really hope you just keep the pontiac a pontiac. Its so cool as is
Dude you have a six in the Pontiac as well surely you can make one out of the two engines. Those sixes were so smooth and torquey it'll make a sweet cruiser.
Always entertaining to listen to you two! Keep up the great work!
So is Mur going on a road trip with the Bricklen to the 50th anniversary? That would be so cool.

Let Dani do the body work on the four door! She's a natural and I think she would do a good job honestly.👍😁
I think I'll do a great job!
@@moreschmoo I agree 💯!👍
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ Locking yourself in the backyard was funny Dani. It was good to learn of your future plans Dan. Great episode guys 👍✌️🇺🇲

It’s the amps that will get you. That 12 volt battery is DC. Direct current. The wall outlet is AC. Alternating current

I'm nominating Mur for an Oscar and Dani for best supporting actress in a life threating situation (the battery episode) and Dan best supporting actor
Haha
Dan, I know ugly, I have a 54 Ford Mainline! Save the Pontiac and the 4 door Chevy. You don't see many old Pontiacs at the coffee shop!
Put a set of early VW bug headlamps(pre-67) on the Pontiac front fenders. They lay back and would give it a cool Aston Martin look.
Thanks for another , Brother !
Have I mentioned that rockabilly in all forms is my thing? Anyway I like the change up thing and back to chair format. Your keeping it fresh.
❤
I had a 56 Buick two tone black and white. Everyone thought it was two door when they first saw it.
I used my NEW Mur approved can opener yesterday..... GAME CHANGER!! I love it! I may get my kids one for Christmas this year!
Awesome!

With those obd memory minders make sure you turn the ignition off before unplugging it, they can do damage otherwise

Hello Dan ,Dannie and Mur
Spray bedliner on the roof of the Nova Dan. 😉👍
I sure hope you joking… 😦
Nope, looks just like a vinyl top for a quarter of the price. 😜

Steve deserves his own door!
Loving the Podast... Even with the Pontiac hate. Haha!!
Hey Mur. Get the Bricklin going and drive it to Cruise weekend in Saskatoon Aug16. -18
If Dani wants a pink top. Paint it grey and pink. Make it a floral pattern. Paint it grey then use a table cover with the pattern you like. Lay it over the roof and paint it pink. Pull the table cover off and flower power roof.
This.... this is not a bad idea...
Blowing up batteries is fun!
...is it? 😂
Good video Great story about the Water 💦

Nice segway for blue chew. Lmao
I liked that nova brother
i only mention the canadian version stuff because when i was a kid i owned a 1953 dodge crusader (canadian only model). and my buddy owned a 57 pontiac pathfinder (canadian only model).
On the "I Love Lucy" show, they bought a white convertible '55 Pontiac in New York, and drove it to HOLLYWOOD, during the later shows..
Just a fun fact..
Pick up a battery with a thumb on both post allowing your thumbs to carry the load
Man I wish Murr taught at my old high school. I would of actually learned something useful.
He's a very good teacher!
you have the Camaro priced very reasonable actually i think you need to raise the price some don't give it away you worked way to hard on it
I've shorted the dipstick on a Mopar 440 to the positive battery terminal once or twice...
Pontiac has a longer wheelbase, I don't think you can bolt on a tri-five front end
Mur would really be disappointed in the level of knowledge/safety that peg spreads throughout the internet 😂
Shhhh
How do you know the batteries are good unless you pressure test em a lil bit 🤷♂️
I vote fix the Pontiac it's cool 😎 and please don't destroy the 57 rag top 😢it's such a nice car 🚙
I have a 55 Pontiac star chief I think it's a great looking car better than a Chevy . To each his own a lot of people love it because it's different you don't see a lot of them.
Back in the 60s a friend of mine put a 55 front clip on a Safari wagon LOL 😆 😅 😂
Thanks yous 3😊
WHO KNEW!
It happened to me. The other guy hooked it up on his end wrong and when I touched the negative to the good battery it blew the top of the battery off. Man it was loud.I ran home covered with acid and went to our shower in the basement with everything on and washed the acid off. That never happened again as I hook up the wires period.

Love that song
