Only a very expensive surgery could save him now, and it seemed there was no one to lend them the money. She heard dad say to her tearful mother, whispering in desperation: “Only a miracle can save him.” Tess went to her bedroom and took a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the coins on the floor and counted them carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. There was no room for mistakes. Carefully placing the coins back in the jar, she slipped out the back door and walked six blocks to the nearest drugstore. She entered and waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was too busy at that moment. Tess stomped her feet to make noise. Nothing happened. She cleared her throat and coughed. That didn’t work either. Finally, she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. “What do you want?” The pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone. “I'm talking to my brother from Chicago, whom I haven't seen in years.” He said without waiting for an answer to his question. “Well, I wanted to talk to you about my brother,” Tess replied in the same annoyed tone. “He is very, very sick, and I want to buy a miracle.” “Excuse me, what did you say?” said the pharmacist. “His name is Andrew, and he has something bad growing inside his head. My dad says only a miracle can save him. So, how much does a miracle cost?” “We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry, but I can't help you,” said the pharmacist, softening his tone a bit. “Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it's not enough, I'll get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.” The pharmacist's brother, a very elegant man, leaned over and asked the girl: “What kind of miracle does your brother need?” “I don't know.” Tess replied, her eyes filling with tears. “I just know he's really sick, and mommy says he needs an operation, but daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money.” “How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago. “One dollar and twenty-five cents,” Tess replied softly. “It’s all the money I have right now but, I can get more if needed.” “Well, what a coincidence,” the man said, smiling. “One dollar and twenty-five cents. The exact price of a miracle for little brothers.” The man accepted the money and taking the little girl by the hand, said: “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need.” That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon specializing in neurosurgery. The operation was performed at no cost, and it wasn't long before Andrew was home again, recovering. Mom and dad talked happily about the chain of events that brought them to this place: “That surgery was a real miracle,” mom whispered. “I wonder how much it could have cost.” Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost. One dollar and twenty-five cents, plus the faith of a little girl.

Excelente querida Perla!! No le des mucha importancia si tal vez no comprendes algunas palabras. De hecho las historias están diseñadas precisamente de esa forma. El contexto del 80 o 90% de la frase que logras comprender, te ayudará a captar la parte que no entiendes. Esto te permitirá que cuando te vuelvas a topar con esas palabras que no comprendiste, tu cerebro recuerde la frase entera y el contexto en el que se encontraban por primera vez. Además de eso, la idea es que vayas interiorizando el patrón dentro del idioma. Las repeticiones irán acostumbrando a tu cerebro a identificar el orden de las palabras, las estructuras y los tiempos verbales. A veces tendemos a creer que no es suficiente solo con escuchar y leer unos subtítulos. La realidad es que inconscientemente si que estamos haciendo mucho.
