    This thing is a beast to the MPC family, the layout is sick!! Just a quick fyi, if you load a previous project from the live, one or the X into the 61, turn you speakers down. This board is loud!! I’m very impressed with AKAI these days, they are listening to their fan base of wanting a keyboard!! They delivered!!

    I bought an MPC 2000 over 20 years ago and it remains one of my favorite sequencers to this day. Something about the MPC sequencers is very inspiring. I use Ableton currently but I have used many DAWs in between that and none (including Ableton) captures the magic of the MPC sequencer. This seems even more inspiring as the old school MPCs only were samplers as you had to rely on external modules for more "midi" based productions, so with the keyboard you have one compact unit.
    I think what I like most about the MPC sequencers was the Transport buttons/functions which made it really easy to get your ideas down. The overwrite and overdub buttons made it really easy to change recording modes. And Akai is the only sequencer I knows that does Overwrite and then Overdub after the loop (great for punching in and then going back into normal loop overdub mode). Why no other DAW behaves this way (or refuse to implement a mode like that) is very puzzling.

    I'm really impressed with Akai as well on this. I was toying with the idea of getting a Fantom down the road when I won a lottery. But this looks PERFECT for my needs. Small, but big. Simple, but complex. Self contained, to serious controller. And the price is certainly decent for it all!

    I was very excited for this product since I saw the leak in the last OS. Glad to see it finally out, really well made video as usual. Being that its the same as the rest of this gen MPC's, I disagree that the sampler in here is as powerful as an ASR 10. It's missing the ability to layer as many sounds, a lot of the synthesis power like transwaves and the modulation abilities that were present in it (being able to modulate sample start and end points using the keys or mod wheel especially). The closest Akai came to that was in the 4000/Z series samplers and I was hoping they would put some of these abilities in this keyboard. Alas, it looks like they are more so chasing the would be Roland/Korg players looking for bread and butter sounds here. This still looks like a good product and I hope they sell well so Akai continues to build up the platform.

    • @mattyg499
      @mattyg499 2 роки тому

      Its nowhere as deep and meaningful as the ASR.Because its not a proper synth sampler.They were totally ahead and at the zenith back then.And were selling to real pros….Most people including pros did not even bother to go very deep into it.Another thing is the sound.MPC sounds good but Ensoniq were on a totally different level.Still to this day the ASRs are very sophisticated and sublime sounding.People really need to stop hoping for it in this new keyboard….)

      It's all about what you want to do. If you're into the portable workflow. Then MPC Live 2 it is. If you're into a full workstation and MIDI controllers are annoying. Well, the MPC Key 61 is for you.

    • @n3utr0n3
      @n3utr0n3 2 роки тому

      Bruh, he ain’t lying. This Key is like the best of both worlds. It’s just not as portable to move around with, it needs a home in a room or studio!! Some days I dreaded pulling out my Korg just to play some chords then put it away due to limited space next to the X or live 2. If you ask me, this just gave NI the dirt nap. They not looking too promising since Maschine plus (not to throw shade).
      (If you know how to play keys and verse in music theory with this piece you solid)
      The 61 key is a sweet spot, it ain’t too big if you don’t got the room and not too small for experience players.
      Best of luck on your decision!!

    The pair is perfect for my particular needs. However, if this existed when I got the Fantom, I would not even have considered Roland... especially without time stretching. It took an extra $1,400 for me to have a complete workstation, and this price tag is much easier to consider. This is going to be a problem for Roland.

    Ave, If I was a Newbie this would be so great for sampling and Sequencing it would be just untouchable but I own 2 MPC's and a Push 2 a host of Workstations. This Looks great but, I must Pass. Nice I will persue for the New Fantom 61. This will be Hugh for Akai.

    I need it to have speakers internal expandable memory (2Tb) and if possible internal battery. This way I don't have to be tied down to my studio to make music. Like the Live2. I still might buy one anyway.

    I bought the VFX Ensoniq
    Synthesizer in the 90's it was exspensive for that time and made some good money with it,you could buy songs and load them on a disk I still have it today and glad I didn't sell it because I'm hearing some of the same sounds coming from this MPC key 61the along with new sounds, I plan on getting this key 61 because it just looks great and I'm sure it does more, thanks for posting Ave

    Hi, Ave. I’ve just liked and subscribed to your channel - many thanks for making these videos, you’re a talented guy. I have a few questions which you may or may not have time to reply to but I write in hope as I’m really struggling to find out what I need to know. I really like the idea of this keyboard, but am extremely concerned about CPU usage. If I were to use two or three string plugins, 2 or 3 piano plugins - and on top of that some synths etc. would I be correct in thinking that the CPU simply can’t handle it? Have you maxed out the CPU? Secondly, do you think Akai will make a bigger version with more power/memory? Take care.

    MCREE IM PISSED AT YOU!!!!! psyche not lol. I was supposed to get a MODX + but this video threw a curve ball, i tried the mpc 61 key, first time ever using any mpc other than trying one out in a pawn shop way back in the 90s. long story short, i got the mpc 61 instead of the modx and loveing every minute of it. its got a powerfull audio interface and making beats has never been this easy. WOW!! at nfirst i thought you were exaggerating how good this thing is but now i know.

    I just have one question. What is the difference between this and having an MPC one and a midi keyboard? I know it’s all in one but the first set up is about 1000 dollars cheaper. Any other reason other than being all in one?

    • @rdboon
      @rdboon 2 роки тому +1

      Other than the new root plugin browse screen I think the biggest reason for the price difference (other than the keys) seems to be because this comes with all the new plugins built in. So to get the same on the one you'd have to fork out considerably more cash after your initial purchase to get your hands on these which brings the total cost up considerably. That being said, choosing the one with just a selection of the plugins you want would still be cheaper than buying this. I have the Key 61 and I'm considering getting rid to do exactly this as personally I find the keys way too short for my liking.

    I am NOT disappointed with this device. In fact it's release has cured me of my GAS. Let me explain. No offence to Ave (your MPC live 2 stuff won akai a customer lol). I think akai have created solution to a problem that was never a problem. Basically they are going to have to compete with their own product line. I think they know this which is why they are charging for plugins that are 'free' on the new keyboard but not free on its other platforms. As I use my MPC standalone (the biggest and underrated feature of the live 2 IMO but live 2 owners know what I mean'), more sounds would be cool just for having sake but from what I am hearing in the demos hype sounds just as good as well as the other free plug-ins from the 2.10 update. If the whole plugin collection was around 100 quid or 120 dollars I would buy just to have them but I know I don't need them. Having fewer means I create my own sound, very easy with a few insert effects already in the MPC live 2 instead of just looking for that ready made sound that these paid for plugins are being marketed as providing. Akai have a problem, their pre existing line up is just waaaay too good and they are competing against themselves now.

    so even tho this doesn't have an sd card slot or extra midi ins and outs im willing to bet that the pcb's do actually have them, they are just not populated. the very first mpc live has the thru holes for an ethernet jack even tho there's nothing soldered to it.

  • @firesailstudios1003
    @firesailstudios1003 2 роки тому

    Thanks Ave! I was just thinking how a glaring omission on the force/MPCs plug-ins was that there’s no FM synth. Too bad it’s not a 6 op lol but it’s cool! Bought an x32 from behringer to hook up some of my hw synths. I’m still not sold on the sound quality that results from using a “USB class compliant” interface with these akai units, but the hands on possibilities when using it with macros are pretty dope. Hopefully this type of hardware integration with audio interfaces (but more rock solid results) becomes more of a thing in the market.
