Google Pixel: amzn.to/3SGnjk2
When they announced the CSAM scanning on iPhones. That was the last straw. Even if they don’t want to do anything other than that. I pointed out that Apple was just one National Security Letter away from being compelled to scan for “OTHER “ things. All with no one being able to tell the public about it. That pushed me to look at other options. GrapheneOS fits that bill nicely.
That was absolutely the final push for me as well! It wasn't so much that they were likely doing things behind the scenes, but that they were transparent that they would be scanning and proud to be big brother now. I'm glad I'm not alone in that!!
Thanks for being one of three guys on youtube that inspired me to buy a pixel 7 pro, install, & run with Graphene OS! The other two were Louis Rossman & Side of Burritos.
You got another subscriber today, my friend. I was on the fence with installing GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6, but I'm doing so tonight!
That's awesome, and thanks for the sub! I think you'll enjoy tinkering around with GrapheneOS at the least, and I'll be doing a video at some point about how to restore back to the stock ROM should anyone be concerned about that. It's just as easy as the GrapheneOS flash! I'd love to know how that goes for you and if there's anything in particular that you miss or really love about the new ROM!
Just another iPhone user here tired of overreach and lack of control. On the fence about Graphene, you just helped me make up my mind! Steamdeck opened my eyes... We don't have to trade a good experience for control of our devices! Also great to see a fellow RVer. Sub'd
I'm right there with you! And welcome!! 😊
Wow! Love the take on privacy. Being a Cyber Security Officer within the company I work for & having a passion for security, I definitely loved and appreciate this video.
Thanks! We all know how both privacy and security get put on the back burner for most folks when it comes to convenience, but I don't think it necessarily has to be one or the other.
Your video sure helps explain some quandaries I've gathered since No.1 son fed this GrapheneOS'd Pixel7 into my hands late last year.
wow! you sir explained privacy so well.. I was never into this kind of privacy but you made me think again! glad I found this video 👍 clearly this a rock solid video, great points
Upload this kind of videos more please
Thank you so much! Will do. 😊
Very helpful man! Appreciate you
Happy to help!!
ur video is the best ive seen thanks man and you explain it so easy to understand
I'm glad it was helpful!!
This is the way to go. People don't realize how much of and accurate picture of you the data collection paints of you.
Really liking the fresh tech privacy content. I'm currently rocking a Pixel 7 on GrapheneOS as well. Another great resource I recommend is UA-cam channel: Side Of Burritos. Keep it coming!
I'll have to check that out, thanks!!
The lightbulb is starting to go on with me. I actually have an unlocked Pixel 6 on order I plan to install GrapheneOS on. I am still fuzzy on when to turn on and off the wifi, BT, when to use VPN, etc. I'll poke around your other videos as this by far has been the best GrapheneOS explanation Ive seen so far. I guess the separate profile for the Google app's, and because it is through Aurora and the anonymous google ID is secure enough to keep your privacy. Thanks for the video!
Take my instant follow 💯
Excellent post, thanks for sharing your Apple experience.
Very well explained 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much 🙂
The 7 pro is an amazing phone - Graphene makes it even better
Absolutely! This OS is what makes this, hands down, the best Android device in my mind! Great hardware, great software, and actual privacy options!
Thank you!!!
Happy to help!
For curved displays i suggest dome uv glass. Its best fit and has best uv glue. Very easy to install or remove.
I've not seen that, I"ll check that out, thanks!
@@CozyLivingMachine *whitestone dome glass, very popular and many videos on youtube 👍🏻
Wow, we just ordered 2 Pixel 7 Pros and will be putting Graphene OS on them as soon as they arrive. You are 100% over the target with your case for privacy. So many people are asleep on this issue. But many of us are awake. Keep putting out videos like this!
Dude! Great video & advice! Yes, both Naomi & Rob are outstanding resources on YT. I am updating firmware on my new (to me) Pixel and flashing to Graphene as I write this. Im going commando on my install. ZERO Google or social media apps. Fdroid for apps all the way.
Just got the pixel 8. Waiting on IT to load GrapheneOS onto it and I'm looking forward to it :)
Same here. I'll be making a video on that but man, the 8 and 8 Pro are so good!! I have the 8 Pro now and really think this is how the 7 Pro should have been. Just fantastic!
@@CozyLivingMachine Legend! Well now I'm excited for you too 😊 I know, I keep hearing such great things about it!
I'll be sure to watch that video when it it's released too man 🙂
That's the beauty of open source. It's totally free and it's way more secure than anything that windows, Apple or any other company of the sort wants to sell you.
Thank you for doing the magic eraser I was the one who commented that 💗💓
I was glad to see that it worked!! I'd like to get Android Auto working as well, and if I do I'll definitely make a video about that.
@@CozyLivingMachine will watch that video to thanks again for the great content and comments back great UA-camr I can't even keep up with my comments
Just order my Pixel 6. Can't wait to ditch the trackers
I wish Graphene OS was available for Samsung devices. The bloatware from Samsung and google IMO holds back the performance of the device and drains the battery more than it should. Graphene OS on the S23 ultra would be awesome.
Completely agreed!
@@fdsknjlsfnubk3e7hi8sx Already done that. Still doesn't change much.
I am using Calyx OS for over a year now and can definitely say that I never ran in any situation, where I would rather have stock android. I can't speak for Graphene, since I never tried it, but from what I heared it should also be very good.
Same here. Not a SINGLE thing I miss.
Surprised at how well it works
Pixel 7 on Graphene
I have a question please, I also have a Pixel watch, would this have a negative impact on my watch? What I mean is connectivity problems with the watch or anything?
I hope one day this can be done with samsung devices
Yeah, your option there is LineageOS but only on the Exynos models.
I had to do a little more research on this, because things change every day with this cool tech. If I could run a Snapdragon, US version of the S22 Ultra on Graphene or Lineage, I would be in heaven. Pair that with GCam and what a beast that could be!
@@CozyLivingMachine Yeah, I learned that when I pulled my old S9 out of storage to try LineageOS and found out that, by carrier request, Samsung phones in the US don't have unlocked bootloaders, which affects all Snapdragon models.
@@WaffleusRex that's what I've been reading. What crap! It surprises me that Google, of all companies, is so open to allowing users to unlock the bootloader.
@@CozyLivingMachine Same. Microsoft also allows people to on their Surface Duo line but the only non-Android OS for it is Windows 11, which is currently being developed by one guy who has to build all the drivers for it from scratch. It's more of a dual boot, though.
My Privacy has Always been Most Important to Me.....
I'm from Blackberry & Removable Batteries - SD External Memory - No Phone Banking - buying Bank Cards for Online Purchases - I had No Intention of buying a Pixel but Now I will - Purposely to Use Graphene OS.... Thank You So Much....
What would replace icloud to store docs and photos?
Those air bubbles you can get rid of by just running your finger nail over them. It seems counter intuitive but that's what I had to do for the film ones on my 7 Pro. Having said that trapped dust meant I had to go through a few. Good job the film ones are cheap.
I've pushed and picked at these, they're not budging. 😂 Most of them at least. A few will move, that thicker screen protector should be an improvement!
@@CozyLivingMachine glass ones unless it's white dome one don't work well as they just stick on the side. White dome one didn't have enough glue for me so wasted a fair wedge of cash. If you get that I'd advise using 1.5 tubs of the glue. Great video by the way. I've tried grapheneOS just for fun on my old Pixel 3. The one thing that would make it great was if they updated the old none supported Pixels OS but then I guess that isn't their focus. I think I'd definitely consider it for a work phone.
@@richarddcrossley I thought I had read that they stopped development for older systems to focus on the Titan security chips and other layers that have been added for security hardening and whatever. It's definitely a fun thing to tinker with and all around a lot more piece of mind for myself or hopefully anyone not wanting to give up all of their privacy!
All new to me so a couple questions. Are you using a cell service like Verizon or att? Did you get a generic SIM card?. If so how/where? Do you pay as you go with that sim/service?
Does it make any sense to reinstall GMS to the grapheneos then to stay private. I also have doubts about how are apps behaving in the background? Are they scanning each other or staying sandboxed like on iPhone?
Love your enthusiasm in your videos but for those of us not as savy on computers or phones can you slow down a bit or add a recap at the end. I want to install on a pixel 7 pro but would need the help. Where can I go for that so it's done properly or can I get it sent from the factory with graphene os installed and can I trust the person doing it. I know enough but not enough if you know what I mean. Not comfortable enough to install myself.
Hey Cozy, I am looking everywhere to get Sound Assistant in to my new Grafineos Pixel 6 to be able to play multiple app sounds at the same time. Is there a soulution out there because, Xiaomi and Samsung devices already come with this feature pre installed...?
What screen protector do you have? All the ones I've found have an ugly circle around the fingerprint reader.
I just picked up one of these! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BDHQBQVS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
How do you back up a graphene phone?

If you set up a Google profile, when your logged in to a different profile is the Google account totally turned off?
In jan6, the FBI also used gmaps and apple maps to track people around washDC.
I've been planning to install it on mine, the only thing stopping me is NFC payments and banking apps. And the business profile I use is very picky about rooted phones.
Neo Store is being more well maintained than Aurora Store lately.
preach brother. I appreciate the soapbox
Thanks!! It seems like no matter what, some just will never care. Others are open to caring, they just don't know yet. And others, like myself, always enjoy the reminders!
By the way, some ideas for future videos... It would be cool to see your thoughts on the FTX exchange collapse, how we are developing AI with breakneck speed, and throwing caution to the wind, and it would be cool if you reviewed the brand new $ 15 K Tesla house, that is mobile... Just my two cents
I'll do what I can about those things, thanks!!
Hey, should I install games on my main Graphene OS account because I see many people have different profiles for (work, games, social media, navigation, entertainment), and could you explain what sandboxing is?, and how to use it?, and I keep getting a pop-up of the aurora store saying Oops, This account is rate limited!
I close my door because I want privacy. I lock my door because I want security.
I suppose some of the features of the pixel, aside from apps that can be installed again later, will not be there? Live transcribe? And are the settings more basic? And what about running banking apps - I'm sure you wouldn't be recommending this if they didn't work properly, like QR scan for making purchases? When Google updates the software with new features, maybe some AI features, does Graphene OS follow suit? Am I getting a secure phone at the expense of the bells and jingles that attracted me to the phone in the first place?
For the most part, if it sends your information out to Google, it will not work. These all sound like functions that might use Google services, though being that most Google services can be reinstalled from a simple package, it shouldn't be tough to sandbox these things if you need them. Most AI is not on-device processing, so if they're important to you, then it may not be worth it. Banking apps work perfectly for me, everything I need my phone to do works!
@@CozyLivingMachine Thank you for the quick response. The AI is not super important. My main concern is banking security.
As far as I understand they are releasing security patches for this OS extremely fast, much faster than most other manufacturers do with their own devices. Of course, the stock Pixel ROMs are likely to be the quickest since it's directly from Google!
How hard is it to transfer contacts after uploading GOS? I'm going from a pixel 4 xl to the 7 pro.
What is a good app for wallpapers?
Do u have Rumble?
A negative re install I use Fedora 36 OS. Ot seems no rpm Linux OS to install? Really? Why should it matter?
Is Graphene OS better than Samsung Android ? Congrats on hitting 3 K subs, bro !!! Great job
Thanks!! And for my use, I'd say so. Battery life is better, just less crap running in the background. A lot of folks like the UI and automated features, so in that case I think Samsung's system may be a little better. Personal preferences!
Awesome tutorial! Thank you.
I got 1 question.
GoogleOS limit/block phone features in some European countries. The signal is bad. No voip. No 5g. Even in 4g signal is not as good like on any other phones.
In Graphene OS those nasty "qualities" still there?
Of course anyone who live in europe & have those problem is welcome to answer.
Thank you.
I can't say for certain, but if it's a software block then I'd bet you would be good at that point because there's no BS software to restrict calls and VOIP and all that.
@@CozyLivingMachine
Thank you for quick answer.
I forgot to mention. You can't surf the internet when you are on a call.
Users Complain to phone companies like Orange, Vodafone, Telecom and the answer was that Google blocked these features because they don't care for this part of the world (eastern Europe).
I wait for more answers, maybe from some people that put Graphene on 7 pro and live in this part of the world.
How's the battery? Big difference from stock android or about the same? 🤔
It's about the same. I noticed that the standby time is definitely a few hours longer on GrapheneOS for sure.
New subscriber here from Italy! Great channel man. Just a quick question: I have a Pixel 3 with unlimited google photo backup, by installing Graphene (alongside with Google Services) am I still be able to have that unlimited free backup plan?
Keep it up man, peace
Thank you and welcome!! That's a great question... The answers I'm seeing are all mixed. Some say that it's not all unlimited any longer, like this: support.google.com/photos/thread/86013534/google-pixel-3-photo-storage?hl=en
But theoretically, you could! You can always reinstall Google Photos, sign in again and off you go! I can't say for certain if they have other restrictions though, of course!
How do you revert back to stock android after downloading graphene os.
This is on the list of topics for future videos, but in the meantime: source.android.com/docs/setup/build/flash?.google.com&
the only thing that concerns me is using third party appstores to have apps.
why can't you use Play Market with some random account and then route all phone traffic through pi-hole to remove digital footprint?
Do you still recommend graphene OS or have you gone back to stock?
I still would absolutely recommend it! I've gone back and forth to check settings and things at least 4 times since this video, but there's only one function that I'm missing (work profile using InTune for Outlook and Teams) but otherwise it's perfect for me!
Try youtube vanced installer for UA-cam and YT Music. Its fricking awesome. Just be sure to install the "right one" because there is one chinese version that is actually worse than googles YT app
The real Vanced shut down in March 2022. It's no longer supported. I'm typing on my old phone with Vanced right now. The ads are creeping in heavily. I use NewPipe X SponsorBlock on my GrapheneOS phone now. It's a different experience for sure, but I'm used to it now.
Did you create an account for the Google apps or did you keep it on your main account?
A separate profile from my regular apps, photos, contacts and such!
@@CozyLivingMachine Ok thanks for the reply.
I'm very into privacy especially with my pc and home iot but less private on my phone as far as some Google apps but I block everything I can and delete an opt out of as much as I can. I know they still track but at least they show me everything afaik looks ok so far
Thank you for your videos they are very helpful and informative
so if i have graphene os, and i install google camera.... i canNOT take/ record videos?
You certainly can record videos on GrapheneOS with the Google Cam app!
Do you know if 2FA on Google Authenticator works ok?
I know Microsoft Authenticator works exactly as it should for me. I assume Google's should also.
If for some reason I don't like GrapheneOS after I install it onto my Pixel 7 is there a way to reload the Google operating system back onto my phone? I really like the idea of Graphene but I'm not very tech savvy so I'm hesitant to make the switch.
There sure is! Super easy: flash.android.com/welcome
@@CozyLivingMachine Thank you so much! Knowing there is a backup in case I can't get the hang of Graphene has convinced me to give it a go. Any recommendations on how to unlock a carrier locked phone?
Your videos are great. Thank you for all the excellent content. They are extremely helpful
I don't know enough about the baseband processors and firmwares baked in to this nonsense, but I'm sure there are tricks out there for this as well. If there's a will, there's a way, as they say 😊 There's some hash that the baseband modems should require to unlock. I think this is a ridiculous thing for carriers to do, but I suppose it ensures that they get their money for the device... 🤷♂️
@@CozyLivingMachine I figured out why it wasn't working for me. ATT requires you to wait 60 days even if your device is fully paid off. I paid for mine in full when I received it but didn't know I'd still have to wait. Thanks so much for your help! Keep up the great work!
Currently looking for a used Pixel 6 to install Graphene. Must the phone be unlockable?
Yes indeed, get an unlocked phone!
This works for pixel 6 and 6 PRO? And What Other phones does it works on
It's available for pixel 4 thru 7 Pro. Pixel 4 support is almost obsolete. I would go with a newer model. I believe, starting with the 6 onward, you will have 5 years of security updates, and 3 years of software updates from Google.
Last Christmas, the 6a was on sale for $299.
What case do you have on your phone in this video, I just ordered my Pixel 7 pro.
I ended up going with the default Google case in the greenish color. After a good amount of time, it's not wearing strangely and seems to cover things well enough for my use! store.google.com/us/product/google_pixel_7_pro_case?hl=en-US
@@CozyLivingMachine OK I thought the one in this video was black.
Ah. Sure is. That was this one, though I'm not a huge fan of the extra bulk. It's not bad though! www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFB4WVW5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@CozyLivingMachine thank you! I will check it out.
...as posted on and commissions paid by UA-cam - Google's 2nd largest property next to the Google Search engjine itself... would love to see your vid on how you have a commercial acct on UA-cam with all this non-Google stuff. Please post!
Hello! This is a great question. So the idea is to use Google services as you choose, but to perform "sandboxing" and segregate your data so that you aren't tracked across the web. It's quite simple, just use profiles and storage scopes as I had described in the first Pixel deGoogling video, and understand that everything that you do in one profile can be seen by anything else in that profile (in theory). Two things can be true at once: a product can have great benefit to the world and content creators like us, and also include intrusive tracking that many of us seek to avoid. 🙂
Can the toggle sizes be changed? They are obnoxiously huge. Also, can I get call recording on graphene?
I'm not sure, but thankfully it's just standard Android OS, so you're likely to be able to customize every little thing on here! And sure can, you'd just have to find the right app to record calls.
@@CozyLivingMachine thanks man. I'm a tech analyst so I def appreciate your position:)
There's no way to change the toggle sizes in pixel os , that I have found. :\
Last question. What dialer does graphene come with?
@@NiNjaTurtLe697 Just the standard AOSP dialler. You can install the Google dialler (cause it's prettier!) but at least disable network permissions; still works fine. Same with contacts except I use it locally; no access to Google servers.
@@pjc3163 thanks sir but i was talking about the toggles from the swipe down menu.
@@NiNjaTurtLe697 Sorry for that, I might had intended this response to someone else's question; apologies.
Is there a way to add android auto to grapheneos?
Not currently because of the dependencies, but I would love that!
@@CozyLivingMachine Thank you for the quick reply even months after your upload! I believe you and I are similarly minded when it comes to values and what's important. It would be interesting to dive into what all is strictly necessary as far as Google services that are required to drive Android Auto (pun kinda intended). Thanks again for the reply, have a great day!
This os chnge mac every time or not ?
Sure does!
Does the pixel 7pro need to be unlocked to do the rom.
That's a good question! You do need to have an unlockable boot loader, which I believe most, if not all, Pixels will have other than Verizon phones!
How do you confirm Google isnt being pinged from GrapheneOS?
That's a good question! Check out this FAQ from them, they provide a ton of resources here: grapheneos.org/faq#google-services
With a firewall or a network tool that records the traffic.
What about just getting a Huawei device?
I would strongly advise against that: www.makeuseof.com/tag/huawei-phones-privacy/
Apple just released end to end encryption on ios 16.2, no one has access to what you choose not to share, not even Apple, only you or person you use as a backup with the encryption keys.
This is absolutely true for the folks who know to enable this, as it's an opt-in service for Advanced Data Protection. Sorry, I thought I spoke about that in this video, but very true. It's a shame that it has taken them so long to implement, particularly after they've come under fire for some other very anti-privacy, anti-right-to-repair stances lately. It's great to see this finally!
Just bought a 7, coming from a 13 pro max, just for the purpose of graphene
That's awesome, basically the same here!! There's a little learning curve, but it seems like any other android phone, minus a bit of nonsense, which is fantastic!
@@CozyLivingMachine being surrounded by iPhone users who all use iMessage doesn't make it easy though 😬
Hahahaha I get that. I guess I'd had an iPhone and not used it for at least a year and a half, instead using signal and that's worked out for me. Helps to have a small social circle, I suppose. 😂
how bout Verizon and not allowing unlocked bootloader?
Unfortunately, that's a lock that this will not override.
@@CozyLivingMachine thank you sir..great channel..i subscribed, liked & shared...
# NEVER SETTLE
So you don't have to root your phone to do this.
Got a pixel 5 for $200 on swappa just to do this
That's a great price!
Will android auto work
It doesn't; apparently it's well embedded in the Google Android OS unless something has changed. I use my Pixel as a wifi hotspot with an old Samsung S9 for maps (Waze, etc).
Where is the best play to buy a Pixel 7 pro that allows developer mode?
I would never buy a Verizon device because they are locked, whereas the unlocked devices should share the same baseband modems anyways. I got a 7 Pro from Best Buy on sale, but check out pixel.google.com because they're running a sale now as well!
Who you running from lol? kidding. 🙂
👻😂
But you loose all the AI functions of the phone that makes this phone so special
Is there anything in particular that you'd feel you'd miss? I've been using the stock ROM for about two weeks now trying to find what that might be, but I haven't found a single thing, myself.
Without working gpay I can't use it.
bro, why do you use macos if you do care about privacy?
Sorry, not buying the argument. Google is by far the worst with privacy and selling your info whether you want them to or not.
That's a great point, but you definitely misunderstood this video!
@@CozyLivingMachine Not at all. You had to install Graphene OS to de-googify your experience but you're still doing it on a google phone........Not really accomplishing that goal, in my opinion of course.
Are you claiming that there is some hardware back door built in to the pixel devices? Possible yes but why has nobody exposed it yet? They use the Google phones due to the titan chip being superior to everything else out there against brute force attacks and such. I think you're missing the point of the video mate .
This is where technology has brought us. Look where AI is taking us. This is what happens when we live in the Matrix 😮😂 My guess is Apple, Google and others knows how to bypass what you did if they really wanted your information. Pegasus
I'm certain that given enough resources, they could certainly track your internet history and such via DNS queries and such. This just makes it that much harder for them!
