I'm privileged to say I grew up with these planes and remember them on DAILY services to Heathrow during the summer months!
....and not only the summer months!!!!!
I was a standby on Christmas eve of 1998,.....and instead of attending the fun and the dinner with my loved ones,.....had to make a night extra turnaround flight to Heathrow.....
I have a video,...I will post here on YT......
You can say, I was privileged also......
ΟAA , OAB brand new , then OAC , OAD , OAE second hand from SIngapore Airlines..., then OAA sold to TWA , becoming its first -200 series....
So we flew 4 units until the end !...I did :(
I will miss the Boeing 747.
I wonder if Aristotle Onassis was there when this was delivered.
His Son had just died a few months before at the same airport in a small plane take off accident, so I don't think he cared less. He sold the airline soon after to the Greek State and it went downhill.
Cool
That was the best Olympic Airways livery. The updated livery in the later years was not as good.
Jumbo-Jet!!!!
Further details since this is a history class now....:)
The older original Olympic OAA and OAB , were equipped with PW JT9D-7J.
The 3 ex Singapore ones , were JT9D-7Q's equipped/more thrust, plus the planes had more fuel capacity....
Until the 1974 war in Cyprus,.....OAA and OAB , homecoming from the Australia flight, then thru Singapore and not Bangkok (Singapore being further away), had to make a technical refuelling landing at the now ghost airport of Nicosia.........
My father was the OA Station Engineer there.....
------------------------------------------
I flew the remaining 4 , from 1997 to their end in 2000.....my last flight being on October 2000 ,....Johannesburg -Athens.......(one of the last flights)
Thank you, if you read this.....
I FLY TOO I love airplanes. ✈️
Me too
Your last flight was Johannesburg to Athens. South Africa. My country. Proud you were here.
@@friendlypiranha774 Yes, my last flight ever!
Spent lovely times in Joberg, I have fantastic memories 😁
@@trufa897- sadly, sadly, sadly I never got the opportunity to fly in a Boeing 747, but if I were a rich man, I'd have one parked in my driveway.
