i think the point was that with the right investment and opportunity disneytoon could have been Disney’s quirky cousin that would allow experimentation in animation and storylines; leading to films that might be more cult classics like a goofy movie vs Disneys usual over-commercialization of their movies now. where it’s seems like they try to make movies to make merchandise to sell lol

I really don't get Lasseter. He did an interview on the stigma of 2D movies in the eyes of the public, but then he first shuts down their Australian studio, then he blamed Princess and the Frog's failings on its title, sent Winnie the Pooh 2011 to die against Harry Potter, then claimed 2D was no more. And then decided Disneytoon's Planes was good enough for cinema. For a guy that claimed to be on 2D's side his actions didn't reflect that.
Honestly, the whole "ending" of the episode could've been a separate episode in itself...I mean they quite literally shut down DA Australia, and then just outsourced all the CGI animations to Prada Studios...which is kinda the same thing Disney was doing before, which they were so critical of
@@YesterworldEntertainment You could still do it. Everyone always speculates on why Disney's 2D movies were no more. But from the inception of Dinosaur to the development of the 2D Rapunzel that would become Tangled, there's a whole story to be told not only inside Disney, but outside as well.
I love that the Lion King 2 was based off Romeo and Juliet, but I love even more so that Lion King 1/2 is basically Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (the story of Hamlet, but from the POV of the 2 side characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern). It's rather genius.

21:50 -- Regarding Lasseter's disdain for the direct-to-video sequels, I always thought that the Gusteau's frozen TV dinners in "Ratatouille" were supposed to represent the sequel films. You know, the TV dinners that the heroes burn in a bonfire :D.
I’ve also viewed Ratatouille as a metaphor for the inner-workings of The Walt Disney Company in the mid-2000’s. Gusteau is Walt Disney, inspiring the young artists, Skinner is Eisner, always putting profit over quality, and never wanting to experiment, Linguini is the Pixar leadership, feigning competence, but ultimately clueless without that true creative influence, and Remy represents the artists at Pixar, always eager to display their skills, but never given the opportunity to succeed.
@@VCJunkie Yeah, but it turned out the inner workings of the company were more like Sunnyville Daycare from Toy Story 3 with Lasseter as Lotso (unwanted) Hugginbear.
Cruz Flores Lol (it’s “Sunnyside,” btw) All joking aside, the previous era of Pixar (post-Toy Story 3, pre-Incredibles 2) was run in a manner similar to how Lotso ran Sunnyside. John Lasseter controlled nearly every aspect of production, and granted creative freedom to the directors in his inner circle (Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Brad Bird, and Lee Unkrich). However, anyone outside of that circle, both veteran and newcomer, would be given very little freedom, and would often be separated from their projects (some examples of this treatment can be seen with Brenda Chapman and Brave, Doug Sweetland and Monsters University, and Bob Peterson and The Good Dinosaur).
@@VCJunkie ) and who is Katzenberg in the film? ( Horst maybe? ) I also think Gusteau might represent Frank Wells in some way. and Ego represents the critics and audience ( obviously )
Can you do a history of Playhouse Disney? That era was prime time when I was little and I would love to know the details behind all of those things involved.
One has to wonder just how dark Dopey's backstory was to make that Snow White spinoff TOO dark... I mean, this was based off Snow White, which is so much scarier and intense for children than we all remember because we internalized our collective trauma. -Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that there's a Disney movie that challenges kids and stays pretty true to its dark roots. I just can't go in the woods at night without getting freaked out about trees with demonic faces thanks to that movie (totally normal almost 30 year old behavior, right). What the hell was so dark about Dopey's story that outdid demon trees, attempted assassination/organ harvesting, and horrific transformations?
Well, according to the line shown on screen in the video, Dopey was apparently going to play witness to his own mother's gruesome death. That turns a character from a comedic relief role into one of tragedy I guess.
@marianne mccrank Good point. I mean most Disney movies have gotten into dark plot points before but thank God that Seven Dwarfs dark origin story got canned.
@@ForeverLaxx There was a stage version at Radio City Music Hall in the late 1970s that actually was taped for TV, aired on HBO and The Disney Channel, and released home video. At the end of it, Dopey actually talks.
@@ForeverLaxx They were, apparently, wanting to give a reason for Dopey's muteness. The idea being that he went mute from the trauma of seeing his mother die. This would've been a pretty bad idea, since it actually contradicts the explanation that had already been given for Dopey's muteness in the original film. Dopey couldn't have gone mute for any reason (traumatic or otherwise) because it's specified that he's never spoken a word in his life. Happy states in the original film that Dopey doesn't even know if he can speak or not 'cause he simply has never tried (that being one of the things that makes him "dopey").
Bambi II is seriously one of my favourite Disney films. Im astounded by the quality of animation and storytelling. It’s up in the air whether or not it remains moral to make a sequel to Bambi, but I think it was worth it.

You're just mad because Splash Mountain is being completely re-imagined...bet now you're wishing you hadn't based an entire attraction off "Song of the South", huh?
Yesterworld Entertainment, I don’t think that Eisner is mad because they are reimagining Splash Mountain. I think that he’s mad at your videos because it is obvious that you love Disney and you do not give Eisner the respect that he deserves for saving the Disney company.
Yo, what up, Michael Jackson (IAS, I mean Eisner)! So, you watch Animation Lookback (can’t wait for *The History of DisneyToon Studios - Animation Lookback* coming sometime later in the early 2020s), eh?
I always find videos on Disney history entertaining, but this was a step above - I can't believe we almost watched Dopey go mute after watching his mother die.
The Lion King II is actually *really* good and I'm tired of pretending it's not. It has a good story and good characters, and the animation is pretty good for direct-to-video.
I grew up on some of the Disney animated series. "Disney's Hercules: the Animated Series" was probably my favorite, although I also enjoyed "the Legend of Tarzan," "Aladdin," and "Lilo and Stitch: The Series"
Walt Disney Animation Japan animated some of the best TV/Home Video stuff they had. Particularly some episodes of Gargoyles come to mind. You could always tell because it had a slight anime feel, but kept the US frame rates. It was very interesting to see. For Gargoyles they often did it for the more action heavy episodes, I think most of the episodes that heavily features Demona.
Japan did all of Gargoyles except for 1 episode. The frame rate in TV is always 12 frames a second, there is no such thing as US frame rate. There were different studios within Japan, therefore different quality.
*Mousercise* was on Ron Miller's watch. He was an ex-athlete, so obviously he cared about nutrition and health, especially where children, their largest customer base, were concerned. The tie-in album even included a *Bedknobs and Broomsticks* song in it (this was a few years before *Angela Lansbury's Positive Moves* ). But you cannot ignore the cognitive dissonance between that and all the sugar-and-soy-laden junk food they sell at the parks. They obviously did something wrong because Kellyn Plasschaert died in her early 50s. They should do a video covering the other shows from the early years of The Disney Channel up until the third wave of *Mickey Mouse Club.*
@@crystalfairy912 I think they wanted to have some shows Donald Duck was in without him since there are already separate Mickey cartoons made for The Disney Channel.
@ I mean, Disney goes out of their way to hide Song of the South and So Dear to My Heart, but the sequels were in their giant Twitter thread and 3-hour video of everything coming to D+ alongside the originals.
I made it a point to...point that out. I think they all received positive reviews, and are all "fresh". Probably because they were all original-ish stories and weren't just trying to profit off the previous one's success
Whenever I was a child and sick off whatever I was in at the time (I don’t wanna say school, I wasn’t that old yet) my parents would just loop Pooh’s Heffalump movie and I’d just watch it for hours. 10/10 would recommend.
@@YesterworldEntertainment They did seem to decay a little as they went on (largely due to pushing Roo and 'OMG new character' a bit too much and getting a bit too sickly sweet) but I don't think they ever quite screwed up Pooh, there was always a bit of charm they got about that series. Pooh's Grand Adventure and The Tigger Movie stand almost toe to toe with the two mainstream movies.
Disney also often used a Filipino animation studio for these sequels. And Walt Disney Animation Japan was originally Pacific Animation Group before Disney bought them, and Pacific Animation Group was originally part of a bigger animation studio called Topcraft. Topcraft was hitting it big in the ‘80s with movies like Macross: Do You Remember Love?, The Last Unicorn and most especially Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which was one of the highest grossing Japanese films of all time at the time. Because of this, the studio split in three with people deciding whether they want to make anime series geared towards otaku like Macross, making blockbuster arthouse anime films with Hayao Miyazaki (director of Nausicaä and would later direct My Neighbour Totoro) and Isao Takahata (producer of Nausicaä and would later direct Grave of the Fireflies), and then there were people who only want to do contract work for international animation. The first group would become GAINAX, the studio that made Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The second group became the legendary Studio Ghibli. And the third group became Pacific Animation Group, which would later become Walt Disney Animation Japan. So yes, the studio that made some of these cheapquels were related to Studio Ghibli. And there was a funny time when Studio Ghibli, GAINAX and Walt Disney Animation Japan released competing movies in 1997. WDAJ released Pooh’s Grand Adventure, GAINAX released EVANGELION: DEATH (TRUE)^2 and The End of Evangelion while Ghibli released Princess Mononoke. What’s even funnier is that Disney would later distribute and localise Studio Ghibli’s films.
Honestly, I liked Kronk's New Groove. Haven't watched it in years, but maybe I'll try to find my DVD at some point. Lady & The Tramp 2 was...interesting for lack of a better word.
I liked the storyline for Kronk it add more to his personality. However, when the TV series came out I was confused and wonder why Kronk went back to being "evil".
I just watched them both and I think as a cohesive narrative the sequal is better, the themes are stronger and the character arc of the main character is articulated well. The original Peter Pan, while charming, feels kinda episodic and the narrative isn't as strong as it could be.
@@AP-0 Yeah I remember getting a lot more emotional at the 2nd movie compared to the first. Probably because I knew Wendy was grown up and seeing her daughter go through the same motions she went through made me kinda nostalgic.
Honestly the thing is, Walt and the higher ups of his era were right. At that time, they couldn’t economically create Disney-quality animated tv shows. Hanna Barbera cartoons are fun, but nobody’s going to say they’re the best animated. It really did take until the Eisner era for technology to catch up and create an economical way to crank out multiple cartoon series without having to animate on twos or lower.
It CAN be considered either as a standalone movie or a movie based on the series. This was intentional on Disney's part since not everyone has seen the tv show.
And now Disney's own Animation Studio has made FOUR sequels! Rescuers Down under in 1990, Fantasia 2000 in 2000, Ralph Breaks the Internet in 2018 and Frozen II in 2019!

He definitely was responsible for a lot of head scratchers and poor ideas, but at least he had originality. Bob Iger’s mentality of buying up established properties and rehashing original stories is wearing on me hard.
At least Eisner had some originality. Yeah, he did some pretty dumb things in Disney, but it’s better than the soulless remakes and reboots we’re getting under Iger.
Iger's current idea of just remaking everything and copying everything from past Disney creators as generic as possible to market to the entire world makes me feel nostalgic for Lord Farquaad weird ideas.

That’s actually really accurate because a few people who worked on those shows worked on the 7D. Besides veteran voice actors like Maurice LaMarche working on the show it also featured Paul Rugg one of the head writers for animaniacs, tiny toons and freakazoid (the voice of him as well) doing a voice on the 7D. I’m not sure if he wrote for the series though.

I absolutely love the story of Cinderella because of the third movie. I never appreciated the original movie until I watched a twist in time and fell in love with it! I think it’s even a better story than the first just because of the story and really getting to know the characters more than we already do! It’s just a great movie
I remember last year during the month of Cinderella’s 70th birthday, I watched the original, skipped II: Dreams Come True and went right to III: A Twist in Time. Missed nothing by skipping the 2nd film and had a great time with the 3rd film.
I'd personally really like to know the story behind that original version of the Tinker Bell movie - both what the actual story was and what happened with it behind the scenes to cause it's scrapping. Cause, like, way back in the day, before the first movie came out, I read a book with the branding that had a completely different cast of characters and version of Pixie Hollow than the movie series would have. There was also a toy line with the characters from it that I had a few of as well as those characters being who was in the end credit for the first movie. Anyway, that book stuck in my head better than the movie series (despite having read it once while I watched the first movie several times) and I've always been curious about what happened to it.
Tys totally radical toenail I’m pretty sure all the fairies who show up in the movies are in the books, but the books have a much larger cast, incorporating a lot more talents that are never even mentioned in the movies. And also Rani is noticeably absent which is probably bc they didn’t want to have to explain why she doesn’t have any wings
@@artisticaperture846 But the worlds function completely differently. The book Pixie Hollow revolves around that Mother Bird figure that provides the pixie dust that's attributed to moon magic in the movies and the classes of fairies are generalized with only a slight hint towards specialization whereas the books *only* had specialized roles with almost *no* generalization. (God, why do I remember this book so well?)
@@tystotallyradicaltoenail Yeah she was. She was the only character besides Tinker Bell to cross over - going from being an actual criminal to just that b*tch. The only released 'Disney Princess Enchanted Tales' which features Aurora and Jasmine is my childhood, I think we wound up scouring the internet for a second copy when it got scratched. I was so upset to learn that the rest were canceled, cause the intro always made me want the other ones. Yeah I remember growing up with the Disney sequels as a kid as well but honestly it’s an interesting because years later we would still have the live action remake adaptations
@marianne mccrankAt least some of the sequels were actually good. Lilo & Stitch 2 Stitch has a glitch, Lion King 1/2, Lion King 2, Tarzan 2, Kronks New Groove, Brother Bear 2, All the other Lilo & Stitch sequels, Mulan 2 (controversial choice I know), Bambi 2 & Extremely Goofy Movie were good in my opinion.
Some criticism about Return of Jafar was also the fact that Robin Williams didn't do the Genie voice (which is because of his bitter fallout with the company for violating an agreement they made together.) Instead, the Genie is voiced by the same guy who voices Homer Simpson. He's a decent voice actor but he's no Robin Williams.
I would say Dan Castellaneta is more than a "decent" voice actor: He essentially had to do an impression of someone else's performance, which is a HUGE undertaking. Robin WIlliams of course didn't have to force himself to be anything than himself and just performed naturally (a way less montainous task). So I think we can cut Dan some slack. VAs just don't get enough credit, in my opinion.

I was so tempted to go into that rant, because I loved that movie growing up...but because it wasn't part of either the Renascence era films or Post-Renascence era films, it would've been a really random tangent.
@@YesterworldEntertainment Exactly. Like I can understand not liking the sequel, Extremely Goofy Movie, but the first one is easily one of DisneyToon's best.
In general an rt score over 50 shouldnt be rotten, it means most critics liked it so why is it bad, like an rt score is not a grade, you dont need a 60+ to pass. You dont have to make it fresh but dont make it rotten
And yet Pete’s Dragon (2016), Frozen 1, the Beauty and the Beast remake, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet are (2010s) Disney movies that actually got the “Fresh” scores on the Tomatometer instead of A Goofy Movie (which only critics found just okay at best, which is one of the reasons why they’re hated). And that just goes to show how unfair and hypocritical critics are
Ok, "Belle's Magical World" had ONE really good joke in it that I still find funny to this day: when Belle and The Beast are arguing back and forth across the breakfast table and insulting one another with big, complicated words... which a sentient dictionary sitting between them keeps translating. That's one of those jokes that deserved a better movie.
From what I heard about The Aristocats II, Marie was going to be the main protagonist since she was becoming very popular during this period (they also planned on making an animated series based on The Aristocats around that period). Apparently Tara Strong was going to voice Marie in the sequel, Cree Summer as Toulouse, and Nika Futterman as Berlioz. I wonder if any animatics exist, so I can hear Tara Strong's performance as Marie alongside Cree Summer and Nika Futterman? Also Russi Taylor was going to reprise her role as Ducchess (judging by some animatics) since she voiced her in House Of Mouse.
That's quite interesting, so they were going to just go the direction of having some of those popular female voice actresses play them. I had figured they'd stick with having young kids play the kittens as had been done on the original Aristocats.
Man imagine the alternate timeline where the seven dwarves game happened and was so successful that obsidian spent the rest of their life as a company making gritty video game tie-ins to Disney sequels
I've seen "mostly" all 40 of them growing up in my childhood years of: (1998-Present) All on theatrical, VHS and DVD, and the ones I think were really good to me, were like maybe half of them: (listed here) - A Goofy Movie (1995) - Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996) - Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997) - The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998) - Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas (1999) - The Tigger Movie (2000) - An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000) - The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000) - Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001) - Peter Pan: Return to Neverland (2002) - Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002) - 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure (2002) - Jungle Book 2 (2003) - Piglet's BIG Movie (2003) - Atlantis: Milo's Return (2003) - The Lion King 1½ (2004) - The Three Musketeers (2004) - Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas (2004) - Tarzan II (2005) - Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch (2005) - Bambi II (2006) - Brother Bear 2 (2006) - Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007) And for the others not mentioned in this, not worth to watch in my opinion. You did a good job on breaking this down.
Funny how history somewhat repeats itself Disney went on from being obsessed with making cheap straight to DVD sequels with only a select few being good to being obsessed with making live action remakes none of which are good. Also 0:23 that image of Belle would make good meme material.
I would argue early 80s-2000s Disney was just thought to be for girls or babies. There big money makers and bugger successes were mostly the princesses. When they tried making more gender neutral movies and cartoons it didn't make as much money. And was also not nearly as popular. Boys like my older brother didn't watch the Disney channel or see 'Atlantas' or 'Treasure Planet' because he thought he was too old and "cool" to he into it. Honestly finding Nemo changed everything. That was the first film my whole family sat down and watched together and loved. It was almost like Disney reset itself.
“When they tried making more gender-neutral movies and cartoons it didn’t make as much money”. And that’s the problem with the world - gender-neutrality, no matter how existent it is, is overhated!
Lindsay Ellis: Twilight (like Bratz) is for girls (which is why it’s criminally overhated by loud, racist anti-Swifties) and Fast and the Furious (shows the franchise sexualizing women) is more for misogynistic teenage boys than Bayformers, Happy Madison and 2010s pop music ever will be and everyone knows it!!!
Not gonna lie, I Understand that Boy/Girl mentality (its Understandble, us as humans can feel more potrayed if its a Girl or a Boy technically). But me as a Boy I could be more interested on that Disney Princesses stuff than a Seven Dwarves spin off.
Yeah, I had no idea just how many installments they had planned until going through the "preview" trailers...literally ever princess was to be included
Yesterworld Entertainment I was obsessed with sleeping beauty so I’d watch the only one over and over (since she never got one of those sequels that’s all I had haha 😭)
Bambi II also took some of the plot from the story of the original author. And let’s face it, it was actually pretty dang good! Also, a Dwarf origin story!? That would have been awesome!
Hey all! I hope you enjoy the episode, and if I can just make one request...try to keep it civil in the comment section & be respectful to each others opinions. I tried to be as objective as possible while going through the Disney DTV Sequels, but I understand that many of you (including myself) grew up on quite a few of these. I also understand how hearing anything critical about something you loved as a kid, or even an adult, can incite a bit of a knee jerk response. Heck, I LOVED "The Master of Disguise" as a kid, and was shocked when I saw just how much critics tore it apart upon release. I STILL think "Hook" is a fantastic movie, despite being told time and time again how bad it is. So just keep in mind that the opinions expressed in this episode are simply that...opinions, which are subjective, and there's nothing wrong with taking a critical eye to the things we loved growing up, or even today. My objective wasn't to "hate" on these animated films or Disney, but to explore the history & criticism surrounding their production. And if you Love any of the movies I criticize, that is 100% ok, and no one (including myself) is trying to take that away from you. Unless you liked The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2...just kidding ;) Mark
Out of all the cancelled sequel, I been very curious about the cancelled Aristocats sequel. I remember Marie was becoming a very popular character at the time (starting in the early to mid 90s). So according to storyboard and information, she was going to be the film's main protagonist. Voice cast for the sequel: Tara Strong - Marie Cree Summer - Toulouse Nika Futterman - Berlioz Russi Taylor- Duchess Speaking of The Aristocats, Disney planned on creating an animated series called "The Aristocats: the animated series" where Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz are now teenagers. Just like The Aristocats II, Marie was also going to be the main protagonist. Currently there are three pieces of concept art for "The Aristocats series" that exists online. The series was planned to air on Toon Disney sometime in 2003. Link to The Aristocats: The Series concept art imgur.com/a/3bOG7Zy
I remember like Master of Disguise a lot as a kid to! I think you nailed how all of the Disney direct-to-video sequels were seen as. I know you didn't want to talk about the Disney character specific movies (i.e. Mickey Mouse and Goofy), but I think those are the best ones, especially A Goofy Movie, and would love to see a history video on them. I'm legit wondering who came up with the idea for A Goofy movie.
Hunchback 2 is my sister's favorite movie. Don't ask me why. Then again, I liked almost all the direct to video sequels, especially Little Mermaid 2 lol.
I know it has been said before, but Cinderella 3 is actually good. I'm not sure how I feel about a story like Cinderella getting multiple time lines and alternate realities, but they pulled it off well. The music isn't as good as the original, but not bad, and the animation is great.
Someone's probably said this by now, but Leroy and Stitch was a sequel to the Lilo and Stitch TV show, but not Lilo and Stitch 2. L&S2 was mostly a side story that has little to no impact on the series and was never brought up or referenced in the TV show or Leroy and Stitch. It was basically as relevant as Fox and the Hound 2 and the Beauty and the Beast sequels.
Peter Pan 2, lion king 2, Bambi 2, and Cinderella 3 were really good, they added on previously established lore while also fixing a lot of problems with the originals or explaining things out. Like in Peter Pan 2, Peter pans actually a like able character now and half the island isn’t racist anymore. In Cinderella 3, the step sisters actually have personality and are likable as well. Lion king 2 has new interesting characters while adding onto the old one. Bambi 2 explains a lot of things that happened in the time skip from the first one. These movies are all top tier and really good.
I watched all of the Tinkerbell movies last year and god they are very good! It made me sad to know the studio shut down and there probably won’t be any more of these films. You can really tell the teams working on them actually cared
Yea same I love those moives thanks to Lassiter we won't get two more tinkerbell moives man I really wanna see them to Lassiter you sucked go back home you not good with disney.
Disney should lose a *TON* of the money it has in 2020 for missing out on making quality content like that in favour of live-action Disney remakes in the very near past (2010s) and as (or even more) near future (2020s).
Trust me, I searched all over for at least SOME concept art or visual...but came up empty aside from a description. I'm sure it will leak one day though...
I totally agree with you on this video! Just imagine what Walt Disney would have to say about his company and its "live-action refakes," I mean remakes, if he came back today, 🤔
Disney Videos wasn't the UK name for MovieToons. It was actually just the UK rebranding for Walt Disney Home Video altogether from 1995 until around the early 2000's.
I'm surprised the *DuckTales* movie was not a moneymaker since that arguably aged better than the more profitable *Jetsons: The Movie* and laid the framework for *Aladdin* since it had a comedian as a genie first. I'm also disappointed we didn't get *Gummi Bears* or *Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers* movies.
Great episode. Most of these movies were pretty bad, but they were part of my childhood, and seeing of clips of them now takes me back to a simpler time.
Oh I am so glad that you mentioned Return to Neverland got a theater release, I remember seeing the preview for it in theaters but my parents didn't take me to see it. Most people say it is just a dvd/vhs release like the rest
Still watching right now but the Tarzan &Jane segments were definitely actual episodes. I distinctly watched them on UPN and Fox Kids when the show was still airing.
Being someone who was born in the early 2000's, Disney made a lot of strange choices back then. I used to have a massive collection of vhs tapes and dvds mostly with Disney films and the home media content. My mom's cousin gave us that collection, and that's how I was introduced to Disney and the home media "films".
I worked at Disney Toon Studios on some of the Tinkerbell films. I enjoyed working there but I think its best to not make sequels. Its better to make something original.
I'd love to see an episode about the old Mickey Mouse Club show. It doesn't seem like anyone else remembers it and I'd love to hear some history about it and where it sits in the canon of Disney media.
I do. I remember it from Disney Channel reruns and remember Annette Funicello's career renaissance in the late 1980s before her MS diagnosis. When she died, it felt like a huge part of Disney died. I even remember the 1970s version that had two future *Facts of Life* girls on it.
Rachel I would, too! I remember it, was a kid when GInny Tyler became Mosuketeer Ginny on the reruns (she herself did Disney records, also worked at WB, H-B and other cartoons studios)
For those who are interested scripts to some of these unmade moves mostly the Pixar ones, can be found online such as a Finding Nemo sequel where Nemo and his dad meet Remy who turns out to be another son of Marlin that had survived the barracuda attack but some how needed up on the other side of the ocean being raised by a different species of fish. Not mentioned in this video but there is also a script to a unmade Roger Rabbit prequel where Roger is raised by humans and after finding out he is a Toon goes in search of his parents. His dad is revealed to be a well known character.
Rewatching this again, and realized one thing that my brain formerly skipped over/didn't notice: the backing music used in that ad for Hunchback 2 is, I'm pretty sure, the love theme from Disney's Pocahontas (an instrumental of "If I Never Knew You"). Just something I noticed during my latest Yesterworld binge hahah
A Goofy Movie can stand toe to toe with a lot of the renaissance films, there was clearly talent within DisneyToon.
Toe to toe? I think you meant to say I2I.
...I’ll see myself out now.
It took a lot from that movie to Stand Out from the rest of the pack 😆
i think the point was that with the right investment and opportunity disneytoon could have been Disney’s quirky cousin that would allow experimentation in animation and storylines; leading to films that might be more cult classics like a goofy movie vs Disneys usual over-commercialization of their movies now. where it’s seems like they try to make movies to make merchandise to sell lol
zoë correct. We’ve seen what they could do when given a budget with A Goofy Movie.
they really could Stand Out....abovetheclouds-
How to watch the “Lilo & Stitch” titles.
1: The 1st Movie
2: Stitch has a Glitch
3: Stitch the Movie
4: The TV Series
5: Leroy & Stitch
There, I fixed it for you.
Makes sense to me.
Narottam Cecil What about that anime spin off? Should this one count?
c0mpu73rguy the anime is “technically” set after all of them, in fact, Lilo appears as an adult in it, but it’s usually considered “not canon”, and that’s for the best, in my opinion

Cinderella 3 DESERVES that 75% fresh rating. They added sooo much character to the Prince and especially Anastasia.

Honestly, the whole "ending" of the episode could've been a separate episode in itself...I mean they quite literally shut down DA Australia, and then just outsourced all the CGI animations to Prada Studios...which is kinda the same thing Disney was doing before, which they were so critical of
Winnie the Pooh 2011 kind of sucked in hindsight. It felt way too much like a DTV or TV special.
@@YesterworldEntertainment I blame Bob Iger.
@@YesterworldEntertainment You could still do it. Everyone always speculates on why Disney's 2D movies were no more. But from the inception of Dinosaur to the development of the 2D Rapunzel that would become Tangled, there's a whole story to be told not only inside Disney, but outside as well.
Hopefully with Lasseter gone, 2D disney movies might finally return
I love that the Lion King 2 was based off Romeo and Juliet, but I love even more so that Lion King 1/2 is basically Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (the story of Hamlet, but from the POV of the 2 side characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern). It's rather genius.
it is, it's far and away the best of these. Even the animation is great.
they should remake the movie to fix the story and give better animation
Lion King 3: Merchant of Venice, am I right?
We want lion Coriolanus
Now we need Macbeth with lions
“Meet the Robinsons 2” has got to be the most obscure sounding movie I’ve ever heard to exist
It would make no sense seeing that the next film would possibly take place in the future, which has already been done
I honestly would like to see it
They didn’t meet all the robinsons so they have to meet them again🤣

No damn taste in the 90s, I guess.
Both Goofy Movies are amazing especially the first one but I love them both.
Also powerline is the best fictional pop star ever created

It's better than Pocahontas, an has a great and pretty deep plot for a movie based on Goofy!

As a kid who grew up in the golden age of the "cheapquels", I can say they had as much influence on my childhood as the original feature films, even though now looking back I can see they weren't as good quality.
They didn't use a single frame from Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 for the trailer and I think that sums up the movie pretty well. Also, I love that little line from Stitch, that Yesterworld plotline passes the vibe check!

Cruz Flores Lol (it’s “Sunnyside,” btw)
All joking aside, the previous era of Pixar (post-Toy Story 3, pre-Incredibles 2) was run in a manner similar to how Lotso ran Sunnyside.

I grew up on some of the Disney animated series. "Disney's Hercules: the Animated Series" was probably my favorite, although I also enjoyed "the Legend of Tarzan," "Aladdin," and "Lilo and Stitch: The Series"
Disney Afternoon! That was my favorite thing to watch as a kid. Duck tales, Tail Spin, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck. So many memories...
I loved those shows too. Some of my favorite Disney animated series include “The Little Mermaid: The Series” and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.”

Thanks for at least mentioning the Pooh movies. Nobody ever talks about them and I love them so much.
I made it a point to...point that out. I think they all received positive reviews, and are all "fresh". Probably because they were all original-ish stories and weren't just trying to profit off the previous one's success
Yesterworld Entertainment also a lot of them are based on stuff from the other Winnie the Pooh novels
I love the Pooh movies, too! Great memories growing up.

Ngl, while the original Peter Pan has some charming moments, the sequel has a lot more of it! 😁
So did I! But I liked the sequel better, actually. I found Jane's plot with Tinkerbell so much fun.
I just watched them both and I think as a cohesive narrative the sequal is better, the themes are stronger and the character arc of the main character is articulated well. The original Peter Pan, while charming, feels kinda episodic and the narrative isn't as strong as it could be.

Honestly the thing is, Walt and the higher ups of his era were right. At that time, they couldn’t economically create Disney-quality animated tv shows. Hanna Barbera cartoons are fun, but nobody’s going to say they’re the best animated. It really did take until the Eisner era for technology to catch up and create an economical way to crank out multiple cartoon series without having to animate on twos or lower.
... So. are you going to consider the release of The Goofy Movie as the theatrical release of GoofTroop?
It CAN be considered either as a standalone movie or a movie based on the series. This was intentional on Disney's part since not everyone has seen the tv show.
And now Disney's own Animation Studio has made FOUR sequels! Rescuers Down under in 1990, Fantasia 2000 in 2000, Ralph Breaks the Internet in 2018 and Frozen II in 2019!

I would have actually liked to see “Meet the Robinsons: First Date”
Also with how much you brought up the 7 Dwarfs, one of your next videos has to be: “The Rise & Fall of the 7D’s” or “The Complete History of The 7 Dwarfs”

And then years later we got The 7D. Honestly wasn't that bad of a show, got a lot of "animaniacs/Tiny Toons" vibes from it
That's not surprising since a bunch of the crew who worked on that also had worked on Animaniacs.
I remember when the 7D came out, I was probably the target audience at the time because I was like 5th grade at the time. I really enjoyed it, I remember being pretty excited for the next episode. Though that was 8 years ago and I’ve got pretty much no idea if the show was actually good.

Its crazy how Disney Channels lineup practically didn't change for the first 14 years it was a premium series. Stuff like Pooh Corner was still airing by 1997
Except you didn’t, because the word “cringey” didn’t exist in the 90’s, and there’s nothing in this universe or timeline or any other that deserves to be referred to as such. I absolutely love the story of Cinderella because of the third movie. I never appreciated the original movie until I watched a twist in time and fell in love with it! I think it’s even a better story than the first just because of the story and really getting to know the characters more than we already do! It’s just a great movie
Cinderella 3 seriously slaps
Wasn’t Vidia still in the books?
Tys totally radical toenail I’m pretty sure all the fairies who show up in the movies are in the books, but the books have a much larger cast, incorporating a lot more talents that are never even mentioned in the movies. artistic Aperture Wasn’t the queen different?
@@artisticaperture846 But the worlds function completely differently. The book Pixie Hollow revolves around that Mother Bird figure that provides the pixie dust that's attributed to moon magic in the movies and the classes of fairies are generalized with only a slight hint towards specialization whereas the books *only* had specialized roles with almost *no* generalization.

And then Robin Williams came back for the third one.
And that just goes to show how unfair and hypocritical critics are
Or how about "Aladdin and the King of Thieves"? Some people, even on IMDb sometimes, really have no taste.
Don't tell Funimation! Their ruin her in their anime series! 🤣
I also think either John Goodman or Jim Cummings was supposed to voice Thomas O’Malley in that sequel.
That's quite interesting, so they were going to just go the direction of having some of those popular female voice actresses play them. I had figured they'd stick with having young kids play the kittens as had been done on the original Aristocats.

I also hate the "this is for boys and that's for girls" mentality.
Me too. I hate how because the main character has to be a girl it’s for girls and when it’s a boy, it’s for boys. Like seriously, so stereotypical 🙄
Man I kinda wish they’d finished enchanted tales and gone forward with the dwarves thing that sounded super cool
At least each princess got an original song that were released on the Bonus and are now on UA-cam, Jasmine's ones are my favorites.

Yesterworld Entertainment I was obsessed with sleeping beauty so I’d watch the only one over and over (since she never got one of those sequels that’s all I had haha 😭)
Igorowan I didn’t know that! Okay now I’m gonna go hunt for the rest!
Unless you liked The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2...just kidding ;)

Out of all the cancelled sequel, I been very curious about the cancelled Aristocats sequel. I remember Marie was becoming a very popular character at the time (starting in the early to mid 90s). So according to storyboard and information, she was going to be the film's main protagonist.
Voice cast for the sequel:
Tara Strong - Marie
Cree Summer - Toulouse
Nika Futterman - Berlioz
Russi Taylor- Duchess
Speaking of The Aristocats, Disney planned on creating an animated series called "The Aristocats: the animated series" where Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz are now teenagers. Just like The Aristocats II, Marie was also going to be the main protagonist. Currently there are three pieces of concept art for "The Aristocats series" that exists online. The series was planned to air on Toon Disney sometime in 2003.

I’ll always love Hook too.
The great memories that the Disney toon studios films will definitely never be forgotten.
21:02 You should do a whole video about that-The Disney Pixar-Collaboration/Fall Out/Merger!
*clicks on yesterworld's video* *hits like before even watching it because I know it's gonna be good*
Haha, I do that too.
Dude everyone does that
I watched all of the Tinkerbell movies last year and god they are very good!
Yeah, I loved the tinkerbell movies as well. Third one the most.
I just want epic mickey 3. Or better yet a movie about Oswald and all the other forgotten toons
Disney should lose a *TON* of the money it has in 2020 for missing out on making quality content like that in favour of live-action Disney remakes in the very near past (2010s) and as (or even more) near future (2020s).
D;)&, that’s true.
an Oswald series is in development.
@@steamboatwill3.367 what is it called? I knew of the Oswald show, but it was cancelled
@@AverageDonaldDuckFan ) it wasn't cancelled, they just changed the team.
A 7 dwarves game made... By Obsidian.
... ALRIGHT I FEEL WE MISSED SOMETHING HERE.
Trust me, I searched all over for at least SOME concept art or visual...but came up empty aside from a description. I'm sure it will leak one day though...
"From where your standing Dopey, this must feel like an 18 carrot run of bad luck. Truth is, this mine was rigged from the start."
It couldn't possibly compete with *SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN CLEVER BOOOOOOOOYYYYYSSSS*
@@Dr170 As soon as Disney saw the Snow White and The Seven Clever Boys game they knew it was doomed to never top such greatness.
Vincent Lance Or maybe he’d become Dopey after said lead insertion.
Another great Yesterworld! Still holding out hope for a straight-to-video Black Cauldron 2.
I grew up in a time when these Direct to Video films were all over the place, with some of them being guilty pleasures of mine.
Now that just shitty.
Sky D I truly think the Tinkerbell movies are some of the best! I don't know what you did to help make the movies but thank you regardless!
You did a great job on those movies. The third one is definitely my favorite in my opinion.
Disney brought back the show in the mid 1990s. Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling was on the show.
@@kurtperleberg6040 She meant the 1955-59 one. Rachel refered to the Annette Funicello, Spin & Marty,etc.original one;
@@Attmay :)Me,too.
Rachel I would, too! I remember it, was a kid when GInny Tyler became Mosuketeer Ginny on the reruns (she herself did Disney records, also worked at WB, H-B and other cartoons studios)
So basically John Lasseter ruined everything like I always thought lmao. I personally always loved the home video sequels.
Also, the sight of Walt Disney in a t-shirt at 14:51 is sure...something.
T-shirts are way more common nowadays (in the late 20th to early 21st Centuries/end of the last millennium to beginning of the new one) than ever!
The Disney Fairies shaped hole in my heart has yet to be filled. I freaking loved those movies and the Pixie Hollow website omg
Ah i remember watching the original Ducktales in 2010 when I got it on dvd
Hearing the direct to vhs ads - particularly the Hunchback II one, set off a wave of nostalgia from such a deeply tucked away memory.
The Disney video clip just sent me right back to being a kid watching TLK 2
Rewatching this again, and realized one thing that my brain formerly skipped over/didn't notice: the backing music used in that ad for Hunchback 2 is, I'm pretty sure, the love theme from Disney's Pocahontas (an instrumental of "If I Never Knew You"). Just something I noticed during my latest Yesterworld binge hahah
