Day 13❣️On this Journey with you❣️🙏🏻💕📖
Fr. Mike, I'm 68 and was an atheist my entire life. I began a few years ago to read, observe and think about our existence and realized I have been wrong, that there has to be a higher power and I am now in that search to understand it. I am not Catholic but I believe the bible is God's words told through mortals and the chapters and stories will lead me to God's grace. I think it's important that I seek and reach it and your bible in a year in just 13 days has told me, you and God have told me I'm on the right track. Thank you, Brother, Fr. Mike.
I watch your other videos as well and I also like you as a person. God Bless you , Fr. Mike I pray for you and all every day.
Keep reading and learning!
Glad to hear this. Praying for you.

This programme is just outstanding! Thank you, Father Mike and the whoe team, and thank you, God.🙏🏾
"Face the Day" is the title of a poem my late husband wrote. Focused on cowboys working the herds, being so tired, hungry and worn out, yet determined to get up each day, pull on their boots, and face another day of challenges. Thank you again, Father Schmitz for helping us to face the day. Blessings and peace to all.

This reminds me of addiction and how people give up so much for a drink or hit!
The actual story is nothing like that. See my comment above for the back story or go to the apocryphal book of Yasher and read it for yourself.

Thank you Father Mike. I am praying for all of us. This is my 3rd attempt at BIY. I gave up the first two attempts. I just fell behind and gave up. I am determined to complete this. BIY has replaced the morning news for me, so I do not procastinate in listening. Then will follow up with CIY.
God bless you for your perseverance! I fell behind both years and would find myself binge listening! You’ve got this and we’ve got each other! See you tomorrow!
Praying for you father Mike, Gods Peace with you all. By God's grace only am I able to tell how this story of the porridge ,red lentils being the only thing Jacobs brother wanted , I can look at my own experience, except mine was alcohol and heroin, my whole being, obsession crowds out all other thoughts,my son ,my life like Jacobs brother all I could see was what I desperately needed and if I got it , I was already obsessed about the next one. Only God could save me and God did. One day at a time 18 years later. I no longer need something to make me feel normal, whole, By Gods Grace. It was a God desperation. I needed God .
Praised be God.
Praying for you, Fr. Mike, and all priests and religious as well as everyone in this Spiritual journey. May God's Word nourish us all and help us obey The LORD.
My 2nd time through with Father Mike. "I can't wait to see you tomorrow!"
I find this idea of saying that my wife is my sister out of fear to be very strange! Whatever happened to protecting and guarding your life partner?? But for some reason, (which we'll only know when we reach our Heavenly Kingdom), God continued to bless these men that did this. Oh Lord, make your ways known to us!
Thank you Friar Mike. Bless you for the work you do in our Father’s name. 🙏. Please continue praying for all that need it. ❤
Today Saturday January 13th of 2024 I am enjoying this podcast for the third time ( I did it in 2021, 2022, and now in 2024. In 2023 I did the Catechism in a year podcast ). Deo gratia.

Oh wow. This bible journey is becoming so interesting. Thank You Lord for Day 13. May God bless Fr. Mike for his labor of love and bless us all IJMN🙏🙌❤️🎚️

My fifth year of praying 🙏🏻
Jacob coming out of the womb, grasping at his twin Esau's heel, two nations represented, who are hostile. Jacob who craved Esau's more powerful inheritance since birth, tempted him with something as simple as a meal of lentils. This passage reminds me of the state of the human spirit in recent days, willing to give up so much to those in power who do not have our best interest at heart. I guess that is why God asked us to pray the Our Father everyday...."lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil......
Esau's hunger is relatable. We often want things in life and we can do and give whatever we can to obtain them. We must resist that and also taking advantage of such people like how Jacob did by demanding Esau's birthright. It shows that Jacob wasn't perfect but consistent in following God and God was graceful. We are also like that. We commit mistakes but God forgives us if we confess to Him and walk on the right path. Thank you Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. God bless
I'm so enjoying this series and even the introspection which seems so much a part of it. In no small degree, the reading of the personal witnesses in the comments brings substance to each session. God love you Fr. Mike and all who are on this journey!
Wooooow!!!!! What a ahhhhaaa moment. I can now see myself as Jacob and Esau .
I have many broken parts of self from Childhood and have given up salvation for man made substances--- by the grace of God I have found fellowship in 12 step where I have grown a deeper sense of God and my purpose. One thing still remains my " thorn in my side" binge eating or using food for what it isn't intended for. This gives me new hope! I can go to Jesus--- I can go to solitude to be still and listen! Jesus was tired in his ministry but didn't binge wine or food to cope-- he went to Father!
I am also taking in a lesson to never manipulate or take advantage for my own benefit! Thank you Father Mike! I hope some day you come to Canada!
You are in my prayers. Unlike drugs in alcohol which you can avoid altogether, one must eat and so the temptation is always there wherever food is. I stayed away from bread, sugar, and high carbs for 15yrs. One day I ate a piece of cake and then some bread. I have been fighting for over three years to get off these trigger foods. Hang in there we can both do this. Someone told me to drink a large glass of water before I eat anything. It does help. 🥰🙏
Thank you ❤️ yes it is a tricky one lol BUT much hope in finding peace here too
I appreciate you and your kindness to reach out to me! I really appreciate it

And if you aren’t you, we don’t get you. The world misses out. You offer a gift to society that no one else brings. Thank-You Father Mike for helping me make sense of all this in such a down to earth way..I've been Catholic all my life but never understood the other way of looking at some of the readings..I hope I will continue on this journey with you and everyone. 🙏

Thank you so much Fr. Mike. This is my first time both reading the bible and listening to this podcast and I have never felt so close to God before! I feel like this podcast has been brought into my life at such a pivotal time as I am currently battling with my worries about uncertainly within my future. But reading the Bible and listening to your commentary is teaching me the essential gift of the importance of trusting God and that right now I am being tested on my ability to put faith and trust that everything will work it self out and that his timing in always perfect. So thank you.
Third trip around the sun with you all.

I can't stand lentils and couldn't understand how Esau could sell his birth right for a bowl of it. Thank you Fr Mike for making me see that's exactly what I do when I decide to go my way apart from God. God bless you abundantly.
Not only is this educating me biblically, but MAN are there some absolute zingers they throw at each other in the Old Testament!

I just want to thank you Father Mike for this. I'm listening for the second time using The Bible in a Year Notebook and already can tell the difference between just listening and listening and taking notes. My granddaughter is also listening and taking notes. We then discuss. She really enjoys hearing your words. It's helping her build her faith. Thank you!!!
Fr. Mike thank you for presenting God's word in a way that keeps it accurate and also explains the messages. God bless you. Thank you.
Thank you father Mike god bless you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Once again, I am so grateful I have this podcast to look forward to every evening! I faced some tough choices today that really made me consider whether I am walking with God and am thankful I have a place to consistently hear God's Word, it is a truly a highlight of my day.
Genesis 25 tells us a lot about the genealogy following the death of Abraham. Abraham's son with the maid Hagar, Ishmael, has 12 sons who settle on the Red Sea (I wonder if we will learn more about his descendants). Abraham's son with Rebekah, Isaac, has twins Esau (the older) and Jacob (the younger). God tells Rebekah the prophecy that her younger son will inherit a greater nation and her older son a weaker. After a long day of hunting, Esau asks Jacob for some food and Jacob sells the food in exchange for Esau's birthright. While I can certainly relate to starving for good food, I hope I would never sell such an incredible inheritance for, as you said, a bowl of beans. I like how you mentioned by giving into temptation, we are effectively selling our inheritance from God, the Heavenly Father. I pray Scripture can deliver me from temptation so that I can choose to walk with God.
Genesis 26 amusingly tells the story of Isaac repeating the mistakes of his father Abraham. Just like Abraham, Isaac visits the city of Gerar and tells the locals that his wife Rebekah is actually his sister (an outright lie for Isaac whereas it was a half-truth for Abraham). Once again, Abimelech sees through this deception and warns his people to leave Rebekah and Isaac alone. God blesses Isaac and rewards him with wealth. Like you mentioned, this story reminds us of the brokenness of the human heart. Time and time again, we repeat the mistakes of our predecessors. It is only through the providence of God that we can become righteous and full.
Job 15 contains Eliphaz's rebuttal to Job's defense. Once again, Eliphaz accuses Job of citing empty knowledge and platitudes and that Job was condemning himself rather than repenting. Eliphaz implies he does not understand the "consolation of God." As a result, Eliphaz believes Job deserves his judgment and the suffering that results for the wicked. For Eliphaz is certain that God punishes the wicked. Job 16 tells Job's response to Eliphaz. He relatably calls his friends "miserable comforters" due to the lack of pity they have shown Job. Job appears to be troubled by his friend's rejection. He wonders why he continues to suffer when his "prayer is pure." He appears to desire that his soul and legacy live on as he requests that his "cry have no resting place." Once again, Job's troubles are very relatable for me. I can certainly relate to the feeling of "miserable comfort" from friends and family that do not seem to understand my troubles. I hope to see how Job continues this spiritual journey with his miserable comforters.
Proverbs 2:20-22 tells how the wicked will be rooted out from the land so that the land can be inherited by the righteous. This seems to coincide with Eliphaz's rebuttal to Job.

My sins are always before me; A psalm that reminds me of everyone's brokenness, and how I am just like everyone else. By Jesus' passion; we are made clean. Thank you Triune God!
Lord, May we call upon your grace when we face desperation/temptation. May our “yes” always be to the greatest gift in life: our deepest identity, our sonship/daughtership and our inheritance in Heaven. 🙏🏻
….isn’t human nature that there is ‘Miserable Comforters’ in ALL of us?? 🙏🏾❤️
Friends: “you should have said something..” “don’t be bashful”
“If I speak [to you miserable comforters], my sorrow is not soothed or lessened; and if I refrain [from speaking], in what way am I eased? [I hardly know whether to answer you or be silent.]”
Job 16:6
🙏🏾❤️
I love this so much!!! Thank you!
So thankful for Fr. Mike‘s commentary at the end. If it wasn‘t for that I would have thought that I repeated the video from earlier. I know I have heard it before. A man telling everyone that his wife was his sister out of fear. Like father like son. But it is comforting to see how even these early prophets have the same weakness as we have but eventually powered through it all and trusted God fully.
Yes Amen
Thank you Fr, agree we need God's grace always as we are all sinners. There is so much of manipulation in one family and we need to pray for each other to get God's grace always.
I feel so sorry for Esau. He was, from what we know now, the under-developed twin. He was hairy (lanugo) and possibly a little bit slow mentally. Jacob was obviously healthier and more intelligent. It didn't make him a nice person, though. So many of our Lord's ancestors were not very nice, which gives us hope. Thank you so much for this, Father Mike.
Thank you Father Mike. What a gift this is.
I never get pass this part in the Bible. I am blessed to have this series so help me pass these scriptures with understanding

Something I notice that nobody seems to be talking about is how Isaac took on 2 more wives at the end there. We had a whole story about how God has led Rebekah and Isaac together. How He blessed their union. But here Isaac just yoink 2 more for himself and it strained his relationship with his wife. Goes to show that even when God has provided us with everything we need, our greed still causes us to want more.
God bless u Fr. Mike. Enjoying n learning as I listen to your podcast. Tq.

Wow, how much meaning there is from this story of Esau and Jacob and a ‘bowl of beans’. You don’t mention jealousy but to me it is a running theme so far. Thanks Fr Mike!!!!
I am blown away. I never realized what Esau did there when he exchange his birthright for a bowl of soup. This really hit me hard. Everyday temptation is every where. Sometimes we are not aware of them. That is why we do need God in our lives. Praying that God's grace will protect me from all the evils and temptations and to remind me that I have a greater inheritance out there, far more great than what is in front of me. Thank you Father Mike for this reflection. Please pray for me on this journey.
