damn as a 6th grader, i loved this game XD. i had a golem with a lot of speed and hp and it was dodge tank stuff on the front line. and i had the start monster be a physical attacker with the slap attack which costs like 1 guts
In 2008, I bought this game used from GameStop. I returned it the next day having struggled through four excruciating hours of gameplay. I used the money I got back to buy a burger and fries. I got far more enjoyment from that second purchase.
I finally found this game, I remember playing a monster rancher game where you are part of circus but non of them seemed like one, I don't remember how far I get but I remember it was quiet far but then got stuck because I can't speak english
Ah Monster Rancher. Pokemon and Digimon's awkward cousin. The franchise just had no identity at all. Hard to describe. I constantly forget it existed until videos like this remind me. Also; did you really have to drag Nicki like that?? 🤣 She is a treasure!

The anime series was really great for an afternoon show. It's a shame that it wasn't half as successful as Pokémon. But given the game, it's no surprise.
My friend, you are going to have to come out with these videos at a quicker cadence or you're going to lose your momentum and fall into obscurity. If you want this channel to really blow up, you're going to have to start pumping them out.
I’ve played and beaten Monster Rancher 1-4 and enjoyed them all, and do glad I skipped EVO. Not because I didn’t pique my interest, but after 4 I was done with the series as a whole, and also cause of Pokemon 😉
Tbh I'm quite intrigued by a game that isn't focused on extrinsic rewards This game seems like a toy box I'm not saying its good but I'm saying there might be something there that isn't just a copy of Pokemon or persona
Opinions are subjective ofc But i have to say i disagree I have played every single Monster Rancher game and always liked them more than Pokemon Also Jade Cocoon 2, an amazing game MR Evo was quite a bit different than all the previous games and for sure a step down but it was still enjoyable imo, i wouldn't call it garbage personally
@locloudanerpg oh yeah, that is absolutely fair, i hope you will enjoy the other entries in the franchise, they definitely work differently, training, stats, adventures, battles...all of it Even tho i enjoyed Evo for what it was, it is definitely the weakest game in the franchise
Not sure how you typically pick which games to play next, but make sure you pick something fun/good, otherwise you're going to burn yourself out on these bad games, lol.
always sucks when a game that has a nice artstyle and mostly pulls it off has bad game design. honestly its stuff like this that makes me avoid challenges like "finishing all the ps2 rpgs"
Monster rancher 4 does the multiple monster battle system better. Each monster has it's own guts meter, all 3 monsters being present at once is reserved for boss fights as every other fight during dungeons uses a tag team swapping mechanic, each fight in a dungeon grants exp and different monsters learn their skills and traits at different rates, and the moment to moment training is more involved than in EVO cuz you have to actually manage your monsters like feed them, praise them for doing well and scold them for doing bad, plus the monster rancher staple tournaments got removed in EVO as well. Usually in monster rancher games the loop is, go week by week to raise your monsters stats while managing it's health, enter in fights to raise thru the ranks, repeat. It's a conceptually simple series with some depth if you wanna dig. TLDR: EVO is the worst game in the series that even the hardcore fans have trouble defending. Play 4 for a much better Monster Rancher rpg like experience. Edit: Just checked the list both MR 3 and 4 are on there so that's fun! Disgaea is another favorite of mine lets gooo! Also i gotta ask, a lotta games have an asterisk next to them, what's that mean? i didn't see anything relating to it in the doc.
