My great grandfather was born in Italy to a sinti romani family and ended up leaving in the late 1930s before the persecution got too horrific. If he hadnt have left, i may not have been here today. Was it? I'm ignorant to the thoughts of people but I would imagine they were frustrated and scared of the government. They forced them to wear arm bands and stars to show their religious beliefs. I don't think them getting loaded into train cars without windows or seats was smiles, kindess or calm.

No one had clean hands, it was a spectrum of evil with the axis crimes at the farthest end. It reminds you that no one is incapable of anything, which is so humbling. Our human nature has not inherently changed over the past 76 years, these people are not inhuman monsters. Instead they are humans who eroded their conscience little by little until they were able to engage in the most supremely evil actions. For the same reasons, the young soldiers who fought so bravely were also not superheroes cut from a different cloth. They were normal kids with virtually no choice but to keep moving forward, and frankly many of them were not well qualified from a physical fitness standpoint. Few bore any resemblance to the captain America character, and some were responsible for war crimes. The vast majority fell somewhere in the middle and were victims of fate. I'm very curious about how your time in the modern military influenced your views? I've never had an inside view, especially not of the military in the past couple decades.

What in the world could any of the guards do without being immediately shot dead?? If they were regular soldiers they weren't told what was going on anyway, because the holocaust was carried out by the SS, who were sworn to secrecy. You do not know anything about history. That is not true He wanted to do good for Germany. Hitler expanded his German territory to almost whole of Europe by 1939 But his own people and some Jewish people betray him and many people were tired of war since long. I remember my husband's grandmom told me her story... She said she was 14 and left Romania for Venezuela right before the Nazis came in.

My great grandfather was born in Italy to a sinti romani family and ended up leaving in the late 1930s before the persecution got too horrific. If he hadnt have left, i may not have been here today. My grandmother survived a camp and she told me the female guards were a lot more nasty and twisted than the majority of her male guards were.

@@Deno2100 oh interesting, my undergrad degree is in military history! My work focused mostly on ww2 and what stuck out to me time and again was the absolute ethical mess from every angle. No one had clean hands, it was a spectrum of evil with the axis crimes at the farthest end. It reminds you that no one is incapable of anything, which is so humbling. Our human nature has not inherently changed over the past 76 years, these people are not inhuman monsters. Instead they are humans who eroded their conscience little by little until they were able to engage in the most supremely evil actions.
For the same reasons, the young soldiers who fought so bravely were also not superheroes cut from a different cloth. They were normal kids with virtually no choice but to keep moving forward, and frankly many of them were not well qualified from a physical fitness standpoint. Few bore any resemblance to the captain America character, and some were responsible for war crimes. The vast majority fell somewhere in the middle and were victims of fate.

Anybody knows why are there two types of wagons? I could observe/see the typical wagon for animals/cattle in which most of the people were transported to the camps. However, there’s another type of wagon/carriage which seems or looks better (like a normal sitting wagon/carriage), was this type of wagon reserved for officers or for high positioned jews (members of the Jewish police who were transported etc.)?
