HSBC was founded as a British trade bank (like Standard Chartered, to facilitate international trade) in the 19th century. It has always (apart from a brief period due to WW2) had its main headquarters in London with other headquarters in Hong Kong and Shanghai. It bought Midland Bank to allow it to comply with changes in banking licensing laws in the UK (which required it to have retail/personal banking services to continue offering the much more lucrative private banking services). Trade bank services are still their bread and butter, and they’re one of the largest trade banks in the world (which is another reason they stay in London, as over 60% of international trade contracts are under English and Welsh jurisdiction for complex historical reasons)

Shell was formed in April 1907 through the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company of the Netherlands and The "Shell" Transport and Trading Company of the United Kingdom. The combined company rapidly became the leading competitor of the American Standard Oil and by 1920 Shell was the largest producer of oil in the world.[7] Shell first entered the chemicals industry in 1929. Shell was one of the "Seven Sisters" which dominated the global petroleum industry from the mid-1940s to the mid-1970s. In 1964, Shell was a partner in the world's first commercial sea transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG).[8] In 1970, Shell acquired the mining company Billiton, which it subsequently sold in 1994 and now forms part of BHP. In recent decades gas has become an increasingly important part of Shell's business[9] and Shell acquired BG Group in 2016.

    Source wikipedia:
Rolls-Royce Limited was a British luxury car and later an aero-engine manufacturing business established in 1904 in Manchester by the partnership of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. Building on Royce's good reputation established with his cranes, they quickly developed a reputation for superior engineering by manufacturing the "best car in the world". The business was incorporated as "Rolls-Royce Limited" in 1906, and a new factory in Derby was opened in 1908. The First World War brought the company into manufacturing aero-engines. Joint development of jet engines began in 1940, and they entered production in 1944.[1] Rolls-Royce has since built an enduring reputation for the development and manufacturing of engines for military and commercial aircraft.

Then a sample is taken, the contraceptive is filled with as measured amount of water and the contraceptive is rolled over a tissue paper, if the paper shows leaks the batch is rejected.
